The Motorola V710, Verizon's one megapixel cameraphone with Bluetooth

We should probably quit our grousing about Verizon refusing to carry either a decent cameraphone with Bluetooth because they've just announced that they'll be carrying the Motorola V710, a new one megapixel cameraphone which comes with built-in Bluetooth (a combination of features that is still all too rare in these parts). Besides the camera and the Bluetooth, the V710 also sports a 2.2-inch color LCD and a TransFlash memory card slot (i.e. another supertiny memory card format you'll be forced to deal with). Should be in stores next month for $249 with a two-year contract.

Knowing verizon they'll probably lock up the bluetooth so you can't do anything close to fun with it. I bet thats why they're selling it for that price, but still that is a great feature phone for verizon and any CDMA carrier for that matter, i wish they made it for GSM networks tho.

I plan on getting this phone, but I hav heard the bluetooth is restricted to use with verizon software (but that might just be a rumor). The GSM equivalent of this phone is the V600, although the features are not identical...

Waiting for the instruction book pdf to see how easy it is to sync with a laptop and earpiece and cruise the 'net while waiting at the sirport, ot make and recieve calls without having to dig the phone out of a bag...

I too hope VZ doesn't cripple any features, or they give advance warning ahead of time. I know if I buy a phone from a carrier, it should do everything in the instruction book, or they get it back.

Finally, Verizon now has a Bluetooth enabled phone. I hope they realize what they have been missing out on. It seems like this is a product that is going to live up to the hype. I know I can't wait.

After a lengthy email discussion with Motorola support, I got this info about linking the V710 with my Palm Tungsten and other Bluetooth computers (which it presently won't do):

"Motorola is currently developing a patch as fast as possible that will be available for customers who own the V710 that will solve this software issue. Once the patch is loaded to your V710, the Bluetooth link will work correctly. It will be available on the first days of September. The way it is going to be distributed has not been announced yet."

i bought the v710 sept 1st and they told me the patch that would work with my 2004 prius bt would be in a couple of weeks did i get hood winked? this is with verizon.. have you heard anything new about the patch?

yes there is an extended battery And it does require a larger door! i picked mine up at the new park mall kiosk that is direct verizon!
Not all stores have it in stock!

The bluetooth on this phone is crippled such that it only works with headsets, speakerphones, and within bluetooth automobiles. It does not support file-transfer, nor phonebook synchronization via bluetooth.

So, you cannot transfer MP3's, pictures, etc. to or from the phone without paying Verizon each time you do it by using their services.

actualy if you get a trasflash memery card you can transfer pics, vids, and sounds. it's a little inconvenient, but it can be done. and you can move the sound files to the phone memery to use them as ringers

The reception is excellent. Having switched from Sprint PCS where I had used two phones, one cheap and one expensive, I no longer have to seek out places to successfully place a call.

I have yet to find a place I cannot place a call from, whether it be down among the ships and containers on my sailboat, two stories underground in a parking structure or high in the sky in my concrete and steel high-rise (with Sprint I had to stand in one particular spot of my apartment to place a call.)

Getting your pix off of it can be a bitch, but I'm quite happy with it.

BTW: AWSOME CLARITY AND CONNECTION.
We have a hallway in a nursing home here where
everyones cell seems to break up or drop the call. the Motorola 710 worked great and so far is the only cell that works there..

2nd post:
after much testing, I have found out[I think] the secret to the lousy photo issues.
daylight/outside pixs seem pretty good at 1.2 megapix, but as we know they are really crappy indoors.. solution for me is to drop back to the medium setting[ 640 x whatever] indoors. MUCH BETTER RESULTS.
btw: I use a cannon 5 megpx and and don't for 1 minute compare the 710 with a real camera..
Like the guy said, some people would bitch cause there's no joysick included..
It's a phone and for all that a phone should do, It's a winner for me..

I recently switched to verizon and bought this phone to link with my tungsten T5 and browse the web. After an exhaustive investigation (which ended at the palmone web site) I have discovered that the v 710 is not supported by palm and there are no drivers or updates available. Will palm eventually support the 710 for bluetooth connectivity?

I bought a v710 today for my wife,(alltel) but it was made and purchased from motorola and made for VZW. IT WILL NOT CONNECT VIA BLUETOOTH. the phone is missing object exchange. I Dumped VZW, I have a v555 GSM from cellular one and absoulutely love it. I can send files to the phone by right clicking send to on the computer, and it goes. phone to computer, palm, laptop,and even other phones easy, but on the v710. What blows me away I can send unsupported files from the computer to the phone, then from the phone to another computer. no wires. VZW still does not have a "bluetooth" phone. Nate

I have the 710 and Verizon and it will not even support the transflash card, or for that matter even recognise it. I tried on two seperate 710's and niether work with the transflash. I am pretty sure Verizon disabled it. That does suck, yes?

I am with Qwest, and they are selling this same phone V710 today for $359. , and it is a year old, if not older. I have really no options on phones with them ? My old Motorola just crapped out, and so this is my options for a real new phone with them. I am hoping that it will work OK at least for awhile. I can not believe that if you want to keep your service with who you are with, that they can extort you for the Big $ like this, and then getting a Old out of Date phone, as today. I can see if they are giving it to you, but having to pay for it ? As I have had service for four years, and I do not wish to re sign up, as I think, I may switch companies in the new year ? That is if this phone does not work good, and if a company that I desire to belong to, has a Samsung SCH - A970 it is a Sprint phone, and I am guessing many companies will be selling it in the year to come. It is really a Cool Phone :-) It was $400. but Best Buy had a deal on it for $99, if you signed up again, with Sprint for two years. Check it out, as I think, I will be owning it in the New Year ?
