Nintendo overhauls the DS

Maybe they noticed that no one seemed to like the design they unveiled back at E3 in May, but Nintendo has come back with a more streamlined version of that new double-screened Nintendo DS portable game console which they're supposedly introducing later this year (they are keeping the name "DS", which was originally just a codename). It's a bit thinner than the monstrosity they had been showing off, and it now has stereo speakers and larger buttons.

Nintendo did say several times at E3 that the DS design had not been finalised, and that it would not be released in the casing used at the show.
I guess everyone is too visual to pay attention to words these days though... ;-)

I am a big nintendo fan and I was really dissapointed when i saw the 'DS' at E3 in May. It looked really bulky, but my friend being the nintendo obsessor that he is thinks that everything they make is beautiful so when he saw the ast 'DS' he was very pleased since it looks just like his orange GAME and WATCH...I cannot wait to rub this in his face and show him the power of the people vs. the obsessors!

Nintendo clearly stated at E3 that the DS shown was only a development prototype and that the case would change before being released.
It seems as though most people can only look at pictures rather than read words these days.
Yes the new model is better than the one shown at E3 but no one ever said the E3 model would remain unchanged into production.

Clearly Nintendo is responding to the fact that people weren't pleased with the prototype that was introduced, and took the design in a particular direction to try and satisfy those critics. OK?

I'm not too thrilled about the dual screens but what I'd like to know is what improvements have been made on the graphics qualities of the games. I thought I saw a screenshot of DS and the game looked just like a GBA game. If we're going to be stuck with this thing for 3-5 years I want it to have quality approaching N64 at least.

Walmart has been taking preorders for this for a while. Their page says "Preorder now for November delivery" and "Preorder this item today and it should ship on 11/30/2004"

The Nintendo DS is around Nintendo 64 "quality" of graphics. Why are they're porting Super Mario 64 to the system if it only has "Gameboy Advance" graphics? If google search, "Super Mario 64x4" and you will see pictures that are similar to N64 graphics. Lies, lies... I'm not into portable video game systems and I know about that.

This looks a lot better then it did at E3, it can still use some work though. The hinge looks a little to complex for what is needed. Is it just me or does this picture look CGI?

I really don't care for the PSP since I hear it will have a 2 hour battery life. I like playing these things on the road sometimes too y'know.

I like the Nintendo DS. After researching a bit on both it and the PSP, based on my opinion and taste, the DS is the winner and im not even a nintendo fan. The whole touch screen thing adds an awsome effect, and when the DS is folded it is about the size of the PSP so both are portable. And i just took a look at the PSP's design, they need to redo the design, its ugly.
Anyway, it looks like the Sony PSP will be more for listening to music and watching movies on the go. It appears to not have any games lined up for it, at least not any I have seen. It says the battery life is 2.5 hours while watching a movie, or 10 hours doing audio only, so, whats the battery life for playing a game, which has audio and video? you cant tell.
the DS looks very promising and I think it would be worth every penny my granpa's gona dish out to get me one *wink*

I think the Nintendo DS will be great...I mean two screens is one thing but one with touch screen possibilities. Plus good graphics for a handheld system... The graphics may not be better than a PSP's but for half the price of a PSP it's a bargain.
Plus a free demo of Metroid Prime:hunters included, and a pictochat embedded in it... I must have IT.
The date is to be Nov. 21 in America, Dec. 2 in Japan, and somewhere around the first three months of 2005 for Europe and Austrailia. With a price of in-between $149.99-$169.99 AMERICAN DOLLARS

The new nintendo ds is so awesome i played it today and thats all i am asking for Christmas ive just got to have it with n64+ graphics it should be awesom plus the best game the super mario 64 DS it will be the ultimate hand-held system ever i like its sleek design betta than psp's besides that im not gonna rag on psp b/c im sure its great and im a sony ps2 fan soo. But for less than half the money @ $150 and the games are only like $25 it is awesome
