Hummer not big enough for you? The NaviStar CXT
Topping on at over 4 1/2 feet longer than the Hummer H2, say hello to the new truck all the soccer moms will be driving their kids around in next year: the NaviStar CXT. This monster of a truck won't overcompensate for any, um, shortcomings, or alleviate any of your eco-guilt, but at a price of $115,000 it'll definitely leave your wallet feeling a lot lighter. Not sure if this true, but at the Earth First meeting we went to the other day they told us that the CXT runs on the blood of baby harp seals and even then only gets 15 feet to the gallon.

I think I'm going to become one of those people. Must.. resist urge.. to buy.. stem puller..
What a monstrosity.
This car has already been banned in my hometown. I'm hoping other small cities and suburbs will do the same.
Right, so yesterday I downloaded the PDF brochure from the maker's website and the tagline for this... this "thing" is... wait wait... get this: "The brilliance of common sense" ... right there, printed underneath a picture of this beast ... "The brilliance of common sense." Now you know.
I actually saw one of these this week in San Diego.
EVERY story so far I have seen has been rather tongue-in-cheek about this thing and how "soccer moms" will be driving it. What a crock. All that tongue in cheek stuff has done so far is piss people off thinking we'll seem them with loads of kids. We won't see a single ad for it directed towards that. It is being marketed directly to the construction trade...have already seen an ad for it in one of our construction trade magazines. The truck was designed because there are many jobs where we cannot safely transport items such as paint, cinder ( cement blocks ), Sand, rock and the like on the bed of flatbeds. The bed of this thing is enormous.....perfect for my concrete construction business. I'm sure we will see some idiot though purchase one "just because". Those are the ones that need to be thinned from the gene pool.
If I had the money to burn, I would buy 2. Just to haul my sleds and wheelers.
My wife and I saw a "convoy" of about 5-6 of these things in Dallas they where half painted and I guessed they where on the way to a dealer on their own power because they where to big to fit on a auto transport truck.
We could tell by the way they looked that they must have been for non commercial use... we just sat in awe of how the world has gone mad.
Doc.

"It's not going to fit into the standard garage," said Mark Oberle, a spokesman for Navistar, based in Warrenville, Ill., outside Chicago. "We can see it as a vehicle for business people who want to make a distinct impression. For personal use, it's for people who want to make a statement."
So ridiculous.
This truck is the perfect truck with room along
with great space in the back of the bed. Its a
great looking rig and although everyone has
their own opinions, this truck should be and is
for anyone that can afford it and wants it. Heck,
its alot better looking than that hummer crap.
Something the rich can spend there money on and the poor rednecks can dream about, other than that this vehicle is a waste of material and gas. At a time when gas prices are at the highest peak they have ever been at, someone has to make a commercial sized truck for personal use. You probably need a CDL just to Drive the thing. I think this was a poorly thought out Idea and I hope this trend fades out fast I would hate to have to share a road with such an eye sore.
I'm surpised it doesn't come with a more powerful engine. The base engine for this truck puts out considerably less torque than a Cummins 600, so I have to wonder just how well this would perform when actually trying to pull a 17,000lb trailer in addition to it's own bulk. Needs much more torgue, IMHO...
What ozone?
what ozone layer?
Obviously a 5-seater pickup will not appeal to soccer moms. When will they come out with the 11-seater SUV version with DVD and supersize cupholders?
If you can't wait, check out this puppy:

This is Foremost's econobox (the page has links to their serious off road vehicles).
OMG, like not only is it useless its ugly.. at least the Hummer has some sort of street value.. good luck getting this thing to the mall, assuming you have enough money to stop for gas twice on the way...
insane!
I work at an International Dealer. I have had a ton of calls this week on these trucks. People are excited about this Huge Beast. I think its great. At least it is not a watered down version of the original like the Hummer 2. International/Navistar builds a great product and great looking. So what if its a gas guzzler, if you have 115,000 to drop on this thing, I dont think you are worrying about a few extra trips to the gas station.
Its not for the average consumer, at least I hope I dont see 15 parked at the nearest Starbucks, where would the Hummers park?
With oil prices above $48 a barrel, do we REALLY need such a dumb-ass, dangerous, ill-concieved, vehicle? (A big truck is no replacement for small penis!!!) There's no good reason why ANYONE should want or need such a monsterous commercial vehicle! If you can afford to spend over $100,000.00 for a TRUCK. Then perhaps that's God's way of telling you to donate your $$$ to a more worthy, and worthwhile cause!
what about those who drive the geo metro? ever think of what that accident might look like?
I like this monster and would have one and I don't even like trucks. To those who are driving Geo Metros, If you can't see this thing comming, then there is a reason for brail on drive-up ATM's.
The owner of a local computer store drives a similar truck, called a "Top Kick". Although the guy charges the lowest price in town for computers, the truck makes people think he charges too much money.
I say, let the people who can afford fuel for vehicles like this feed the trees carbon dioxide for a few years until the fossil fuel reserves dry up. Then we can get on with more sensible means of transportation.
I'll keep driving to the jobsite in my 56 mpg Volkwagen Golf TDI. When we run out of diesel, I'll run it on corn oil.
For all of you that think this a single purpose design truck your poorly mistaken. This a 7300 Cab (a common chasis for International ie. your city's plow truck) with a pickup truck bed (optional dump) with alot of additional comforts. This is not your soccer mom's car, that would be a GMC Yukon or Ford Expedition. Why the hell any soccer mom might want to pull up to 20 tons, i have no idea. Get the point. If you have a yacht or construction material to tow/haul, or just want to park it in your front yard because your Arnold Schwartznegger, then you might just buy one. The average consumer won't want it and can't afford it, plus how many soccer moms to you see driving a Ford GT or Ferrari, those are specialized cars for certian purposes (going fast) just like CXT (to tow a lot of stuff). Much like a lot of the whiners on this bulletin board, I will stick to my 24 mpg ride (even if i had the money to buy a CXT). Your more likely to see this truck at fire department than your next door neighbor!!!
Wake up, this truck was built for towing just like an 18 wheeler, what do you think the insurance would cost for this baby???? Think I will trade in my lemon 2004 Ford F350 for one, I need something to haul our 3 axel race car team in.
Only in America are we free to explore our dreams. Good for you NaviStar. Thank God we are a democracy and not a country run by extreme environmentalists.

hay nick u are a smart one i didnt know diesel engines ran on gas you cock-gobbler, they should put a cummins engine in it. more horse power, torque, and better fuel economy. thats my take on things
Pull you head out of your tailpipe, buddy! (You probably don't believe in 'global warming' either!)
Just because we live in a so-called democracy, doesn't give us the right to endanger, damage, and otherwise distroy this planet! We need to conserve (on a grand scale) what precious fuel we have left in the gound. While developing (on a NASA/Cold War-like funding & commitment) alternative power sources. Not wasting it on some seriously over-the-top, gas-guzzling, macho-man, cock-grabbing, in-your-face punk, pickup truck!
As Don King would say, "...only in America!"
I love the statement it makes. It ought to really upset the whackos. It sure got Terry Rorie. No Terry, I and most intelligent people do not believe in global warming.
Jack Sorrentino: So you believe in that ozone layer crap, do you. You leftists will believe anything. That's why you would even vote for that sub human dung heap that calls itself Kerry.
I think it's wonderful. The government will probably snatch up a few of these. They gotta spend our tax dollars on something, might as well be a big truck. Of course the tree huggers might object.
This truck is totally awesome, it looks like an 18 wheeler met hummer. I think it's really cool and if I had an extra $115,000 to spend on a vehicle I would definately buy one.
Hey, finally Ford has a dirtball cruiser to rival the Hummer! If I'm a R&D person for Ford, I'm looking for a new job...
Hey DL Suzuki...
Bite me!
Terry misses the point like most of her idiotic ilk. There aren't that many H1 Hummers and there will be fewer CXTs out in the world.
Any why is it that the Geo Metros of the world get to make the rules? I think that cars like that are dangerous and should be banned from the roadways. It can't save its occupants from a crash, from a larger vehicle or even a tree. Should we ban trees and large buildings too? So people will have the right to drive under powered, undersized vehicles?

i think the cxt is a nice truck , (it's a truck for the REAL MAN), i think the hummer sucks, it's nothing more than a pick up truck frame with a big box on it, and ugly to, it's about time somebody done something right.
I think that the CXT is made to handle the big jobs. You don't use a tack hammer to pound a wedge into a tree stump. I like to think of it as a specialty vehicle to get the big jobs done. If you had a landscaping business owning a truck like this makes sense to me.
So you environmentally consious folk out there really think a couple thousand trucks like this will really hurt the environment worse than the millions upon millions of compact cars like geo metros that are driven more frequently and kept in worse shape mechanically. besides the newer diesel engines are much cleaner burning that gas engines. i say if you can afford it, go for it. the way i see it if the fossil fuels get scarecer the sooner we will go to fuel cells.
Actually this truck, and other more normal (F-250/F-350) diesel trucks have the potential to be more environmentally friendly than Hybrids like the Honda Insight. The reason: biodiesel. From either new soybean harvests or through the conversion of waste vegetable oil the emissions are lower and don't depend on petroleum, domestic or imported.
For more info see biodiesel.com or http://www.journeytoforever.org/
Michael
"using a 92 B-700 as a basis for an RV".
I'm sure Ashton Kutcher is doing alot of commercial work these days. This is an ego truck, even the adds on their own site are pretty clear on this. I can't wait to see one in a compact spot, or parked sideways taking up 6 of them.
This truck is so ludicrus it could actually help push legislation againt oversize vehicles. So that's a good thing.
To the people who are posting here saying 'we dont care if we kill people driving normal vehicles'; that's nice. Hopefully some day the laws will catch up to people driving irresponsibly large vehicles in unsafe ways and start tagging them with manslaughter / negligence more often. Safe being 'a whole lot more conservatively than you drive a car'. Make them drive the truck speed limit on the highways, for example.
To the biodiesel promoter - a vehicle does not have to weigh 7+ tons to use a diesel engine. If biodiesel became common, you would just see smaller cars manufactured with diesel engines. Heavy vehicles will never be more efficient than lighter vehicles using the same power source.
Anyone ever consider the fact that the US has the WORST driver training in the World? After driving in what was West Germany(and getting my FIRST license there) and seeing what they go through to get a license, the US plain flat out sucks at driver education. Your Basketball(not bashing coaches, just pointing out a shortcoming)Coach, for cryin' out loud???? And who the hell picked him/her to teach driver ed?? What does THEIR driving record look like? And why speak negative about buying this huge vehicle, when parents go out and buy their kid a 300hp racemobile for graduation after what little driver ed they do get. Maybe if the country spent more time and some of the alluded to money spent on excessive fuel costs, insurance(whole 'nother story), etc., to actually train our next young generation to DRIVE, the accident rate might actually drop. If you want a giant truck - go for it, but have the decency to learn to drive the damn thing before you street it. And for the indigenous truck drivers(Ford, Chevy, Chrysler) who are thinking about this one...wait a bit...maybe those companies can build another giant to compete with the CXT, and you actually get the brand name you want.

i wonder if those damn earth first people realize that they to drive cars and consume just like every other american every thing takes oil to make even your lipstick. And it takes oil to make the CXT and just because you pissed me off im going to take out a first on my home and buy the CXT and drive it through the earth first meeting see ya soon FU$^ER'S
you know the funny thing about the hummer is its nothing more than a glorified G.M.C. and nothing against them at all. The new hummers are for suvilian use anyway ! What you thought you bought what the government has HA!HA! NOT. The new hummer suck they now have a ten bolt rear end come awn how lame can you get. I have personally wheeled side by side with these rigs and there nothing more than a glorified grocery getter. you want a rig build it or buy the cxt. I love it it tows my toy hauler-through the snow Why unload the jeep HA! GET IT! I sure you love driving it in a downtown area like san fransico(the gay bay) and hey to all those enviromentalist God forbid they write on a piece of paper that came from a tree that is protected by some other enviromental group .
I hope Rockstar games add's this vehicle in GTA so that I can spot them and blow them...
UGLY! UGLY!
by the way, the tyres look way too small I guess...
Looks like the stuff of suvhate.org . It's what the biggest dumbass with the littlest penis is driving...
The purpose of commerce is to sell a product.
The American economy thrives because Americans can buy not only what they need, but what they WANT!!!! If you control freaks want to tell everyone else what they should, or can, buy or drive, or how to live, just go ahead and admit you are a communist!!! If your communist ideas were so great why is the U.S.S.R. no more, and why are all of the communist countries in the world impoverished? Why would ANYONE buy a Scion? cause they have a death wish? Well luckily in America, that is their right!!!
This is a great truck. IT was built to be used for specific purpose. That is as most intelligent people have said is for construction. But just to add this Truck has been trialed by both the Canadian Army as well as the US Army. Lets all hope no one is stupid enoph to buy the gas version.
I cant wait for my dad to buy me one of those trucks..its said if u can afford it than buy it..i mean just becuase ur car gets 22 mpg so what thats ur car..if people wanna buy a big expensive truck then so be it..Don't hate cuz u can't afford..Thats the only reason u hate it!!!!!!!!!
This country is in trouble when glory-boys ride their daddies' money and are proud of it:
$ J Money $
I cant wait for my dad to buy me one of those trucks...Don't hate cuz u can't afford..Thats the only reason u hate it!

Hopefully, that enthusiasm will take you far, like Iraq or North Korea. So you can put your daddy's money where your mouth is.
This country is in a world of trouble. Brazil, here I come.
