everybody says the ps2 is the best i say that aswell but gamecube is cheap and has ati graphics card but ps2 will always be the best and it has more games than anything else (blows in to hand)
I bought the new ps2 (slim) and well its been 2 months and its fried!!! Why? I dont know...it not better than the old ones just slimmer. Blue disc aren't an option for the new ps2
@Girl(and to everyone who just read Girl's post): I've had a slim Ps2 since October 26th and i've played it more than alot. Sometimes even breaking the 12 hours barrier(more liek often). It's nowhere close to broken or whatever, maybe you're just exagerating on something. Because if yours is already fried then this might be very local or just another XBOX or Gaycube fan. I'm not the only one who could tell you this, many people i've known have bought this new slim ps2 and none of them have had any types of problems yet. So unless you're trying to add something uninteresting here, i'd suggest you go where you bought it and slam it in their faces cause this shouldn't happen. (period) ps2 is close to perfection now and i've heard no stories about it breaking, and i've seen close-to-the-edge tests. Now if you'll excuse me, i think ive been clear enough.
I`ve had the new ps2 since january 2.. and noticed that it was to slow when you played a part that demand a lot of graphics. I think it has a worse system than the older one.
I like the fact that its a top loader instead of a tray, why? because that way i dont have to take it apart (and kill the warrenty) to clean the laser! so whenever it starts that evil dics read error (if im still using it then) i can just clean it in seconds and be done.
the new ps2 slimline is not as good with graphics as gamecube and xbox, same with the controller ports, the gamecube and xbox comes with 4 ports, but you can buy the multitap for pstwo.ps2 is not as good as other consoles, think what will happen when the ps3 comes out. ps2 will go down the drain.plus the label on the botom of my console is peeling off.i dont hate it i love the console.slim sleek and quiet.i buy new games all the time so i dont have to wait and fall behind with them.i also got the replay max.anyway what i was gonna say is the new comes with 2 usb ports.the old comes with 3.no fair.this is billy livingstone with kung pow goodbye
the slimline ps2.... well, its not to scabby.
a bit of slowdown on the graphic side and thats about it. no it does'nt store music on it.
just one thing, all you people who hate xbox's and cube's, get a life!!!!!!! they are all awsome!
i personally own every major computer/console that has been made since the zx80 and have been gaming since i was 5 (thats 30 years people!) and i think its time you all realised that most of the consoles on the market are pretty identical in power and perfomance.
Alright. I just got the new model yesterday, yeah im a little late but whatever. I see everyone on here bitching about the fact they didnt put 4 controler ports or a HDD attachment and all the other crap you've been saying about it. look its like making a street bike faster; you wanna take off the un-nessasary parts, shave unwanted parts off the frame, take parts off the body, and add the right parts to make sure it will run cooler and quieter. now converting mechanics to technology, thats exactly what sony did, they didnt enhance the graphics or add any controler ports or anyhing because they just wanted to enhance the PS2 they had out before, and believe me this one is WAY better than the first. for example the loading tray on my old ps2 started making noise after a year of using it, i'd play games and they'd get scratched because of the problem with the balance in the loading tray. no matter wich way you used it, verticly or horizontaly it still had these problems. my friend brian had the same problem with his loader on his PS2 and now looking at this one i dont see how anything could possably go wrong.
btw if your gunna bitch about the graphics and compare it to xbox dont even bother. yeah ps2 lags behind in the graphics department but the games for ps2 are WAY better. only reason people even buy xbox is because of halo and halo2. with ps2 you have so much more; for example some of the best RPGs i've ever played such as xenosaga 1 and 2 and final fantasy x. not to mention the onimusha and devil may cry series, i think in terms of gaming PS2 will beat xbox anyday.
This new version is not as good as the old PS2, it is less durable. With the old one you can play for as long as you want, it is more durable. I have both old and new slim version, the old one can last for the whole day while with the slim one it is not to exceed 4 hours- or beware. But, the slim one can last more if you put it next to an airconditioner. It has a built-in Network Card and it loads somewhat faster. But as a tech I still would prefer the bulkier type cause when I play, I play hard cause I work hard and I don't wanna be cut short of the time I want with a console. It looks like it's about to break after more than three hours, this slim and fragile version. And I'm not making up stories. Although if you do live in a cool place like America (very nice people, they helped tsunami victims, I salute them) there'd be no problem, but if you were from Philippines I'd recommend the older but more lasting type cause it is hot here and the skinnier type can't take the heat.
Playstation 2 was good but the newe one is even better just like they did whit the ps 1 they bring out a smaler version!! and they are yust the same!!! ps2 rulezz!!!
I have come to the conclusion [after spending over an hour reading every post here!] that I am going to purchase the new PStwo. I currently own the launch PS2, a PSone, the launch XBOX, the launch Nintendo 64, and a SNES. Dispite what I have read some people saying, I will get this new one. My old PS2 has just about had it. And for some reason the $45 Network Adaptor will not work with my PS2, so I look forward to a built-in one. And as for the XBOX, I love it dearly, I really do... but it is so God damn big! It's the biggest console I have! It's almost as big as my Compaq Presario computer! It amazed me when I saw those pictures comparing the PStwo to the XBOX controller and console. I only bought my XBOX for Halo originally, but now I am looking into buyind KOTOR and Battlefront 2 and Underground 2 and etc. PS2 I bought becuase I am simply a Sony fan. I have always prefered Sony over Nintendo and certainly over Sega. I remember back in the days when I played my Sega Saturn, LOL. Dreamcast, in my personal opinion, was the biggest console flop in gaming history. Glad I didn't buy one. As for everything you all are saying about overheating, I really don't care. I will simply shut off my system and let it sit for an hour, but I do not think I will have any problem, I am convinced it will work for me hours upon hours non stop with only a little heating up. And also about this whole controversy over the top-loading and little children touching the lens: I am an only child and am 17 years old, I don't think I will have any little kids around my PStwo, and I am damn well sure I am not dumb enough to go touching my lenses. As for the smaller size, I need that, I am sick of having my old PS2 laying out down on the floor [soaking up cat hair with that big a$$ fan] because it is too heavy to be set up on the tray on top of my big screen TV. I need a lighter version. And I don't care if I am putting $100 into something that I already have, what's $100 anyway? Nothing, big deal. A simple benjamin, I can make more money, that's why I have a job! I make $100 in one day! Now moving on to the HDD topic, it is specifically needed to play those Final Fantasy Games only. I absolutely hate Final Fantasy with a passion. All in all, I am excited about this new PStwo [even though it has been out for a while now] and am going to buy one, and keep my old one. Unlike most people who just sell and ship off their old consoles for newer ones, I can not do that. I don't know what it is but I just cannot bare parting with a console I have had. Call it a relationship with my consoles. Could you just ship off a dog or a kid for a new one? No. So every console I have ever had in my lifetime is still in my possesion, working or not.
All in all, cheers to all! And my best wishes to the new PS3 and XBOX2! I hope they rock! And are small! Seriously Microsoft, look up the word 'small' for me would you? Thanks!
u guys are really stupid .... thank you .n-e ways ..im pist ..like a true sony fan i went and iwas one of the first ppl to get an hdd .u know what i did with my ffx11? i sold it and deleated it off of my hdd .. now i got a 40 gig memory card..now mod chips suck they burn ur system after awhile ..so put hd loader in ur hdd ..what do u have the need to pay 6 bucks for any game u want ,new old whatever ..well not any game dual layer messes u up ..but get the picture ..sony got me real good ..they sold us ..those proud owners of the hdd a dream wene telling us that we .like japan will have the bb navigator ,media player .tivo like response ..and worst of all emailing apps ....so what ever happend to the linux ppl that are running linux on there ps2???? thank u sony ..u guys owe me a $100.00
The HDD can be used with over 95% of ps2 games on the market. No more worn lasers, much faster load times, download a game from the internet and put it directly on your HDD.
Every dvd9 game can be put on the hard drive, including god of war, gt4 etc.
The new model DOES accept a hard drive, it just has to be external with a usb port.
Does the new playstation 2 have both phone jacks on it like the old network adapter, one for the ethernet cord(broadband), and one for a regular phone cord(dial-Up)
Dont know about the new PS2 yet but im getting one very soon. I did want to make a few observations tho. The first would be that FFX was the worst RPG ever released (i traded mine in like 5 days after buying it), the game was more like watching a movie (a really shitty and boring one at that). Like I said I just got DSL and am buying a console soon (PS2) but for RPG's Xbox will put a beatdown on the PS2, Morrowind alone kills ANY RPG ive ever seen on Sony. Then we have Knights of the Old Republic, which made FFX look like the steamy pile of crap it is. Sony's saving grace (for me atleast) is that I think they beat MS at theyre own game...they have the better online games IMO. Wish me luck, ill be playing a Sony online soon, hehe.
Oh,one more thing; ive never heard of an external usb HDD working with the PS2 and seriously doubt if any would (unless its one that does just that, but I dont think there are any).
Just got mine yesterday. I was so surprised by the size.
Its so frickin small. I have seen pics of the small ps2 with people holding it, but i didn't thought it was going to be this samll.
Well, just want to clear somethings up,
first, GTA:San Andreas DOES work with the small ps2,
and also it DOES NOT overheat.
It also DOES NOT shuts down in middle of gaming.
The term 'overheat' is used with your computer when the cpu gets too hot and it just shuts down. After that when you touch the cooler of the cpu,(If the cpu is cooled by a fan.)its so hot that it is almost close enough to burn. But even in computers, these disaster are very, very, VERY rare.
So, the new PS2 DOES NOT OVERHEAT.
for all of u wanting to no bout the external hdd for ps2s there r a few but u gotta find one thats the right size i aint meaured mine yet so idk the length for hdd but there r hdd out there that work for the ps2 ill post a site here where i found a few but idk which will work so dont b mad >< the enclosure ones u out the HDD in but u need rite measurement of ur HDD http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=ps2+external+USB+HDD&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&sa=N&tab=ff&oi=froogler i really hope this helps yall with a slim ps2 and hdd
The guy who said that there are HDD that work with the new PS2 has no idea what hes talking about. The link provided are nothing more than regular PC external HDD's and some arent even USB, hehe. Heres the deal, the USB HDD are designed to work with USB under WINDOWS!!!(and in some cases MAC too im sure). The PS2 CANNOT use its usb ports to support a HDD (atleast until they make one that does). The USB ports were not made for that, the expansion bay (in the first model) was made to use the HDD. Face it if you buy a new PS2 you are not going to be able to use ANY HDD functionality. If this is a problem for you I would buy a refurb older model cause im REALLY sure Sony will not release a HDD compatible with the new format PS2, and who really cares? Theres like 3 games that use the thing.
ok i just want to say that i have a new PSTwo and most of these ppl on this site never done any reasearch on it
Fact 1: it is 25% faster that the old PS2's because sony redesigned the emotion engine CPU (which will be on the market soon for 700$ USD at 4Ghz)
Fact 2: the reason they did not put the HDD support in is because they went full on with the PS3 development which WILL come with a 40Gb HDD pre built in
Fact 3:it IS possible to use a USB HDD without a loader but u have to jump a wire in the system and using the boot disc will cause u to loose the ability to play "blue" discs acasionly
Fact 4:PS3 is not I repeat IS NOT backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2 games so sony will keep the PSTwo out a while
Fact 5: SONY plans to realease an offical USB HDD driver for the PSTwo that wont screw up the disc read of the blue discs
You people need to do research or talk to SONY techs. (like me) before you start to rumor
and btw its $350 for the PS3 and $350 for XBOX 360 (without HDD) $400 (with HDD)
I was wanting to buy a new ps2 slimline since my other ps2 was broken by my sadistic ex gf but i was told they have over heating broblems a lot and stuff like that so was wondering if i should buy one or not any info on this would be a lot of help thanks for your time bye
