Pics of HP's unreleased iPAQ hx2000 Pocket PC
Courtesy of a pseudonymous reader who wishes to only go by the name "Typhoon", we've scored pics of HP's new iPAQ
hx2000 series Pocket PC, including the one above showing it alongside those new Bluetooth stereo headphones HP is
coming out with soon. The verdict: they're rather bland-looking, especially compared with some of the iPAQs that came
out last year or even that new Axim X50 that's coming
from Dell.
Anyway, the hx2000 series was conspicuously absent (well, at least to people like us who make a career out of
obsessing over these things) when HP announced all those other
new Pocket PCs back in July, but we still don't know much
about them. What we've heard is that there'll be at least three models in the series, the hx2100, the hx2400, and the
hx2700, and that the hx2100 is supposed to have a 316MHz processor, 64MB of ROM, 64MB of RAM, a 3.5-inch transflective
display, Bluetooth, and CompactFlash and SDIO expansion card slots; the hx2700 is supposed to have pretty much the same
thing, just with a 624MHz processor, 802.11b, and 128MB of ROM; and we don't really have much dirt on the hx2400, but
it'll probably fall somewhere inbetween the hx2100 and the hx2700. Make sure you click to see the rest of the pics,
which show the hx2000 with a similar snap-on keyboard to the one used in HP's h6315 Pocket PC Phone.

damn, biometric scanner, how I miss that
Plus, why would anyone wanna buy a plain 'ol PDA when there'r plenty'o smartphones to choose from these days???
I think it looks pretty nice actually. I like the darker color.
As to why buy it instead of SP? Look at SmartPhones. Almost no real input capability. Slow. TIny cramped UI. Etc... Even those that have built in keyboards are hardly useful for real PDA functions.
Oh My God!, Who beat the beautiful iPAQ line with an ugly stick?
Ever since the first all silver sleek iPAQ PPC its been down hill. After the last line up I thought they coulnt get uglier. I know government field equipment sexier than this. What a shame. HTC has done well picking up on the old iPAQ silver design and implimenting it into all their OEM branded equipment. Although the XDAIIi & IIs in black & silver is the best color scheme for that current form factor. I am so shocked at these new iPAQ's they look like a thow back to a retro handheld device but there really are no retro handheld devices as they are all under 8 years old. Just my 2cents I'm sure some people like it but what ever happend to SEXY & POWERFUL? Sports car concept. Who'd buy a Lambrogini if it looked like a studabacker.
IMO the 2215 was the best out of the pda's of its time so i cant wait for this one!!!
All u guys who think this thing is ugly need a reality check. This IPAQ is very sleek looking. It is certainly far better looking than any of the new hx or rx series.
That being said, I think it's cool that HP is not just putting out the same style pocket pc over and over again with different components on the inside. I bet if they did that, all you people who are bashing the new styles would bash them for using "the same old style". I may not like the styling of most of the new IPAQ's (except this one), but I do like the attempt at something differrent.
I think stand-alone PDAs are very cool, they increasingly put real computing power in the palm of your hand. With a fold-out keyboard my Dell Axim is basically a 5 oz. laptop replacement for me, and I can do pretty much all the real work on it that I need to do. Smartphones, on the other hand, are almost all total crap. Slow processors and small screen, like Alex pointd out. Plus they are incredibly expensive. My question is, who would want a smart phone when there are some incredibly cool PDAs coming around these days?
Only one thing missing.
A LINUX version
This model harkens back to the old Jornada PDA, of which I still carry on a daily basis. I miss the simple, understated, clean lines that characterized the Jornadas. Perhaps this is an attempt at re-capturing that market?
As for smartphones, I currently don't have a need for a cell phone. Dare I say it, they are just annoying to me. By not having a smartphone I save myself hundreds of dollars a year by not having the cellphone account. I've been waiting for built-in wifi, built-in bluetooth, and hopefully a built-in camera. It seems they're getting much closer with these models.
The new iPAQ range is totally confusing, they look like the old Journada, but above all, the original iPAQ's greatest selling point was it's EXPANSION JACKET options - the only real differentiator in a crowded market. Come on HP, listen to your users!
