Sony's five megapixel Cyber-shot DSC-T3 arrives

Have we ever mentioned that we're in love with the Cyber-shot DSC-T3, Sony's new 5.1 megapixel digital camera?
Because we are, and it's not just because it's follows in the ultraskinny footsteps of the
DSC-T1 and
DSC-T11 and is Sony's slimmest full-featured digital
camera yet. Actually, that's exactly why. Anyway, it's finally gone on sale.
[Thanks, Josh]

I'm just about to replace my DSC-T1 after the LCD got shattered while traveling. The one problem with these cameras is that while they have a huge, bright, wonderful LCDs, the screens are quite vulnerable. Why every device with an LCD doesn't come with some sort of screen protector (or at least offer one separately) I have no idea.
I'm about to replace my DSC-T1 with the new Canon G6. It's a great camera, and the LCD swivels and folds into the body where it can't be broken or scratched.

I have a Canon Powershot G1, and while I am sure the G6 is even better, my only complaint about the G series is its size. I can't fit it in my pocket and because of that I find that I don't take it with me sometimes when I want to, because of the hassle. I bought that camera because of the "prosumer" features such as full manual controls, etc. However, I find that I use those features maybe 5% of the time because the auto mode is so good. If I were to buy a digital camera right now, size would be my next-greatest consideration after image quality. Just a heads-up...

Apparently they may begin shipping early next week according to the Sony rep.

You can buy a waterproof case for this one that is made of thick ABS plastic. That will increase the bulk tremendously, but for situations where impact is likely that would be a great way to protect the screen. I'm a big fan of small form-factor Sony cameras (I just beat the living daylights out of a Sony DSC U-20 2megapixel beast) and the thought of having something this small - and when I need to have it rugged - about the same size as an average camera - is very appealing.
The waterproof housing is waterproof for up to 200 ft I believe. It's made for SCUBA diving.

I just called Sony and they said they are not selling the DSC-T3 in the USA. I am hestitant to order it from some random website. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I just ordered the T3 from www.etronics.com. They are certified through Yahoo Shopping and have great delivery / serice to Canadian customers like myself here in freezing cold Calgary, Canada. :-) While I have not received it yet - I'll keep you posted!!! I was very nervous at first, but I did my homework and hope it is a good experience. They did a Canadian $ exchange at market rates, including duty, shipping and taxes all at checkout! They also have a partnersip with Canada Post (Which I confirmed) to expedite orders to Canada. If they have done all this, I'm betting (praying) they are on the up and up!

G'day!
I bought a Sony Cybershot DSC T3 yesterday here in Shanghai for just a tad over A$600 over the counter at a large retail store.
I've got to tell you that with a 128mb card you're away with this little baby - cool cool cool! All hail to the Sont corp - they're on a winner!

Its what its promised to be, a snug handful anywhere - takes loads of good quality pictures, slightly deficient at indoor work - but maybe I still have to learn so many of the tricks in this wizard of a microchip genius - so you learn something new every day - Pouch is essential for LCD safety - a charged extra battery is essential for outdoors, picnics, birthdays, One large 256mb or 512mb would be a dream to have - but i'm restricted yet to a 128 - but its plenty. Since I do landscape painting - this is an ideal tool for capturing anywhere, whenever, quick-at-the-draw (as in Kemo Sabey) point n shoot!! Do visit my site!!
Pls be sure to read the manual - take special care of the microscopic Pro Duo Sticks - My Laptop has a card reader - but an adapter memstick is supplied - so for outdoor dumping a lappytoppy or a card reader can be very handy. Out of city - dont forget the charger and dock stn !!! PS: Makes excellent movies and sounds crisp and clear!!

I just got my DSC-T3 from etronics.com. They have very good prices on the accessories too, so pick up an extra battery and memory stick pro duo. I got the black version and must say it is freakin cool. I also paired it with the AJK-THA Active Jacket Case (meant for DSC-T1, but works with the DSC-T3). It makes the camera a little thicker, but my wife can slip it into her purse without worrying about scratching the case or screen.

I just got the DSC-T3 from sony Japan World devision. I would recomend purchasing it this way as it comes with a world wide warranty! There are Japan domestic items which is what most people are selling then there are the Japan world models, which come with a world warranty so no need to ship off to Japan or another country and also with adapters for traveling. I travel alot so this is good as there is now no need to carry converters or anything of that sorts. Now as for the camera I don't see why soo many people leave bad reviews for the DSC-T3 about poor image quality, etc etc. I have had no problems and 99% of my photos have turned out as expected if not better. I am very please with my purchase and would recomend this camera to anyone who is looking into purchasing a digi cam. I personaly also love the firework settings! For anyone who see's this and has one try setting it to firwork mode and mounting it onto the tripod, now change the EV compensation to +2.0 and turn off all the lights and take a pic with it waving a sparkler or other light source infront. Very fun, and I used this to write Happy birthday for my gf and print out was better than anticipated.

For anyone who bought a Cybershot in Japan, Korea, etc and need an English manual. Go to Sony's homepage for Cybershot ( http://www.sony.jp/products/di-world/cyber-shot/ ) and click on the "English Manual Download" in the lower right part of the webpage. The file will be ".pdf"
