Apple eMac G5 coming?
Reports are coming in that Apple could be gearing up to
release a G5-based eMac really soon that would also include an update to the video hardware. Recent inventory movements
at distributors signal that something may be up with the education-friendly machines, and distributors like Ingram
Micro have seen mass movements of eMacs lately, which is usually what we see immediately before a major product
announcement. Apple is having its Q4 financial conference call this afternoon, so we'll be keeping an ear open for any
hints.

The iMac is at $1300, so why not just leave the eMac with G4's and keep the price down. If it goes to G5 I think that will be stupid, unless they can keep the price down (I'd rather have G4 and more memory, video, etc).
The eMac takes style cues from the old iMac... will the new eMac might take that pyramid-based two-arm lamp Mac that we saw pre-iMac G5.
Why does it have to be more expensive as a G5? The cost in the iMac is the screens. Since CRTs are WAY cheaper, they can give us a G5 eMac (that looks the same way it does now), at the same cost.
There have been rumors that the eMac might be cut altogether, in favor of a limited edition iMac that doesn't come with an optical drive. (many schools have complained about outside software being installed and their own software being dumped onto CD-RWs... although that's nothing a firewire iPod couldn't do better.
Since the inception, the education site has had an optical-driveless model configured for education only and also works as a thin client for those who might want one for their offices.
"There have been rumors that the eMac might be cut altogether, in favor of a limited edition iMac that doesn't come with an optical drive."
There's already such an iMac G5 available for educational buyers.
"many schools have complained about outside software being installed and their own software being dumped onto CD-RWs"
Well the tech staff in those schools should be fired. If they really feel thats a problem, they should know how to block that from happening, after all its easy enough to do.
...when the dual-core G4 is on the way and would provide more bang for the buck, when you consider the memory, system bus, and heat dissipation needs of the G5. For lower-end machines, a dual-core G4 would be ideal. A dual G4 - 1.25 at the moment provides about the same performance as a G5-1.6 despite the G5's far faster bus.
I agree that Apple needs an entry-level Mac. I'd go further and say that since monitors can last over ten years, they should build an entry-level model.
Could you please share how to block someone from burning installed software to a cd-r or USB Flash memory, IF we want to allow those features for saving their own data to that media?
You can block those activities by setting up a user account for students by clicking on system/account in the system preferences app in the dock. Learn how to do this and you can block all kinds of student activities under the security tab in that dialog box.
hope this comes up In inda it iw not affordable
