Mac OS X on your PC
Maui X-Stream (extreme, get it?) has launched CherryOS, a Mac OS X software emulator for $50
that lets you simulate a G4 Mac on your PC. It runs at 80 percent efficiency, meaning if you had a 2Ghz PC, you would
be running your CherryOS on roughly a 1.6Ghz G4, the other 20 percent of CPU cycles being used up by the emulator
(color us skeptical about how well the emulator actually works). They're also working on a standalone version where you
don't even need Windows at all, but we're sure Apple will have something to say about that sooner or later. This
reminded us of the free PowerPC emulator PearPC, but
that didn't exactly set the world on fire either and now development on the project seems to have waned. If you're not
quite ready to take the plunge but still want that OS X look and feel, check out our guide to turning your
PC into a Mac.

i think pear pc halted because one of the main developers died....
I'm not believing it until I see a review by someone I trust. The CherryOS website is incredibly minimal, and all of the shopping cart links are 404 (with different URLs for each one).
doesn't it look like a bad joke?
The Pear PC guys are of the opinion that is is just a ripped off, rebranded PearPC.

Selling something available for free? Doesn't SCO have a patent on that?
An 80% efficient emulator sets off warning bells, and the claim that a 2 Ghz Pentium 4 = a 2 Ghz G4 seals the deal. Whenever someone you've never heard of makes a software "breakthrough" chances are it's mostly hype.
This applies to encryption especially, although emulators seem to be gaining ground on the vaporware hype.
This is most certainly a scam. If they were really proud of it they would've showed more in the demo video on their website. Instead, they just show a static Mac OS X desktop picture.
If anything this has done is show that there is tremendous interest by most of the Windows using world in Mac OS X. The answer to this interest: Get a mac!
I did an editorial called
Why The Cherry and The Pear May Be Apple's Next Lemon
I would say I 90% nail this as a scam and 100% nail it as a support nightmare for Apple if it ever becomes true.

Is it possible to use Mac on PC? vmware also doesn't support it.
It seems the author of Cherry is really claiming 25% of speed or so. If it was really 80% your 3.2Ghz would yield 2.56Ghz not 800Mhz as he says below. Funny math.
"CherryOS has been tuned for performance. You can expect to get about 80% of your processors power when working in the Apple Environment. For example a 3.2ghz P4 would run as fast as a 800 MHz G4 machine." http://www.cherryos.com/what.html [cherryos.com]
Scam...There would be flamming topics all over the Mac boards, and there isn't.
If you want to run the best OS out there imho get a Mac!

the reason this is because a 3.2ghz P4 does not equal a 3.2ghz G4
the clock speed does not represent the true speed of the chip,
so a 2.0ghz P4 is probably equal to a 1.2ghz G4
and so on,
so dont pay attention to the actual number,
for both number represent different speeds
make sense?
ofcourse not . . .
by the way,
pear pc only runs at about 5% your pc's actual speed . .
so count them out - all they did was make it possible,
not usable . . .
takes 1 to 3 hours to install osx with cherryos...makes me think that a 3.06 would be about a g4 400 at most
why in the world someone would emulate a mac?
PCs have adobe, macromedia software, quark, games, anything you ever want and more.
I rather would have virtual pc for my mac, to emulate windows and run my nasper subscription.
I love you napsterrrrrr.
