The end is upon us! Today, the FDA
approved the use of the VeriChip, an RFID microchip that is implanted under skin without need for surgery. The
chips are designed to include patient-specific information such as allergies or previous procedures that would be
scanned at a hospital emergency room wirelessly. In order to assure its ubiquity (and eventual mind control of
the masses), Applied Digital Solutions is giving away scanners to 200 trauma centers. This is the first time the
FDA has approved devices like this, and we'll be watching this slippery slope closely, comrades.
The chip is here to stay ,beware of it , never take it at any cost. Pray for God's protection & he'll see you thru. SB CHILD OF GOD
Wow - lots of religious posts recently. Interesting. Its plain to see the religious view of this device, its evil, its the antichrist, whatever.
The simple fact is that everyone else who is not of the faith sees this device as a useful tool. Which I'm sure is what the inventors thought - that it will save lives by informing doctors/paramedics about allergies and so on.
I would assume the religious response would be "it'll save some lives now, but you're accepting the MARK. and you won't be taken up in the rapture"
In reconciling these views, the non-believer (lets call them techies/geeks, whatever) regards the whole MARK reasoning as, to be honest, a bit wooly and far-fetched. They see the tangible benefits of the chip (saving lives) and support it for that reason.
You couldn't get geeks to abandon their beliefs, just as no-one should expect those who are religious to do the same.
There's no real solution, or winner in this discussion. Its just a case of sitting it out, to see who is right, and who is damned.

I am certainly not 'of the faith' (whatever THAT means) but I don't see this chip as a completely benign invention. As with everything humans have invented, it may have arisen from the best intentions but not much time goes by before someone thinks of more nefarious uses. The mention of the 'patriot act' above is very interesting - and frightening. Land of the Free? Really?

I agree with one point of your post, I accept that there are non-religious (that means the same as 'not of the faith' by the way) people who have objections to the use of this technology. That was an omission from my post as I was addressing the religious objections to the device, which lets face it, there have been a lot of.
So leaving the religious part behind for now:

Example: Caveman A invents tool. Its made of rock. Then he realises he can uses it bash Caveman B who's been eyeing up his woman. Wow - that tool is not completely benign. Ok, that was a bit flippant, but theres the point.
From my point of view, I have to say your line of reasoning seems to be one of anti-technology. What should we have done? Not invented anything which could possibly be used against someone else? That leaves humanity in a cold, dark cave.....
The thing you say is true open-minded, we can't go against technology, we can't go against progress or time.
But, that doesn't suppose that we can cool down and have a cup of coffee, it's only an indication that we are drawing closer and ever closer to the end. The fact that technology progresses is the fact that the future anti-christ's gadgets are more and more in place for him to accomplish what he has to and what God predicted.
Yes, that seems reasonable. But even if, on the whole, 'the world' decides not to develop certain technologies as fast as possible, there will always be someone (a renegade scientist or whatever) who will develop it. The issue of human cloning, or even embryonic stem cell research, is a perfect example of this.
Technology is a pandora's box. There will always be a theory on how to make something better, faster, more effective, more controlling. Even if most of the world decide they don't want to go down that route, somebody else will, and the technology will be unleashed, perhaps to greater harmful effect than if it had been accepted by the world.
On another point, its been mentioned before that the anti-christ will use gadgets to wreak his madness upon the world. Does it mention this specifically somewhere? The assumption seems to be that gadgets are going to be what he uses, but this seems to be honest a bit mundane for the anti-christ.
Miracles were attributed to Jesus, so would the anti-christ not be able to use his 'dark miracles' to further his intentions? Why use technology at all? Would he need it?
I'm just trying to find out why gadgets are being blamed. If there's something written in the bible that directly makes the point, the could someone please quote it? Otherwise, its just gadget-bashing without supported justification.

Ok, I'm familiar with the hand/head issue - its been discussed earlier in the thread (credit cards? sheesh).
But after reading the quoted verses, I still don't see how this implicates a gadget as being the Mark. I'm interested in your interpretation though.
Excellent point and question in comment 58, Open-Minded. I'm very interested to see if Child of God or one of the other religiosos are able to produce a coherent answer to that - one which doesn't involve wailing aimlessly about an impending armageddon brought on by computer chips.
I also liked the idea that using electronic gadgetry was 'a bit mundane for the anti-christ'. It seems 'people of faith' conveniently ignore comments like this as they go against their complete subservience to their beliefs. Certainly all the people quoting from the Bible in this thread seem blissfully unaware that they have already done in their minds what they're afraid this VeriChip will do in their bodies, that is, eradicate one of the unique human qualities - the capacity to reason objectively about their existence.

There appears to be faith enough to believe in the resurrection, but apparently not for the anti-christ to perform his own miracles, with technology ending up as the whipping-boy.

I think they secretly want this to be the mark of the anti-christ, because then it would prove that their faith is correct - as we are all checked into the second circle by Minos (or whatever), the happy clappies would all be saying 'I told you so'.
Except they wouldn't, though, because that's unChristian. Is it a sin to be smug? They could probably get away with just thinking it. Depends how harsh the big fella is.

The VeriChip may or may not be the mark of the beast, depending on one's faith. However, I think we all can agree that it certainly IS the mark of conformity to a way of thinking currently personified by the current US president - now that IS scary.

Well I for one still think its gonna be useful... and yea, they shall be used across the world....
And yes, of course, there may well be privacy issues with the technology. I'd rather not have my movements logged in minute detail, and would never willingly accept a device for that. I'll carry a mobile and thats its.
The Verichip, which is a limited subset of that technology, will save lives.

Nobody's denying that the technology can be useful - it's the intentions of the people using them that can be suspect.
Most technology falls foul of the fact that human beings make use of it, sooner or later, because humans are fallible. Take the RFID sticker - the Engadget precis itself mentions straight away how the 'useful' technology could be made dangerous.
I'll stop there, as I sound like a Luddite!
I fail to see how such a device will be of any help when the wait to see anyone in an emergency ward is frequently on the order of hours. I can see it now, the nurse at the desk instructs you wait, you sit for four hours, then its your turn and they scan you, OMG think of the time saved!!!

Who said the RFID "surgery sticker" would save time?
It would help make sure you've got the right person under the knife (unless you've got an orderly with a sense of humour - 'yep this is the gender op guy. honest').
And of course the reader/scanner for the RFID sticker would be another thing for hospital staff to hang around their necks in that cool ER-like way. They wouldn't want to clip it to their belts - too geeky.

None of us can escape the "Wrath of God" which is why we have His Son. If we live in the light and the truth of His word and have a relationship with Him he will convict us of everything that is in contradiction to His will through His Spirit. Why worry about the chip?It is disconcerting though, that so many believers are convinced that some sort of chip is connected to the mark of the beast(Divine revelation?).Instead of wasting time arguing about a chip we don't even have access to yet we should focus on glorifying Him and spreading the Gospel(LOVE&SALVATION). The beast is not only 666, there are at least 13 other verses to comply with in Rev13. I have found that poeple wants to add the 666 to just about every leader, however the computer is already busy to rule; entertainment, jobs, money, water, electricity, cars, all communication,etc.

Not only I can read a lot of flaming going both (should I say, multiple) ways but also the quality of the arguments is poor.
Technology in itself has not moral value. Take nuclear power: it can be used to provide energy for good, power spacecraft or build the worst weapons of mass destruction. The USA has done all three; in particular, it has the nuclear weapons that if used would destroy life on Earth as we know it... and maybe even humanity with it.
It strikes me as unbelievable then that USA nationals in this blog are worried about an RFID technology and its implications. Not only nuclear, but many other technologies can be put to terrible use.
By the way, if you are wandering... yes I am Christian but I am also a scientist.
I came to this site after hearing about an episode of C.S.I. Miami benevolently, cunningly endorsing verichip. This is very disconcerting to me. I must say that I have been expecting this for many years since I was younger and have been warning as many as I can when the opportunity presented itself. I also must admit that it is scary. As for the comment about credit cards, although sarcastic, in a way is true. No, credit cards are not "the mark" but little by little we have been conditioned so as to advance to the next phase. Consider this, if you put a frog into boiling water, he will jump out if you put him in at room temperature and slowly turn up the heat he will allow himself to be boiled to death. That is the purpose of satan. Yes, he is cunning. Take morality for instance. Now look at in just the past 20 years the attitudes of say abortion, and homosexuality. I believe that T.V. sitcoms have aided in this decline. Notice that if something can make you laugh about a particular situation it doesnt seem so bad. Ellen for instance. Notice it initially was shut down when she "came out" however, just a short time later we have "Will and Grace" "Queer Eye For the Straight Guy" we also now have a homosexual leader in the church that is openly condoned. So this verichip is the mark of the beast I know that is a fact, and what do christian do while waiting for the rapture? They will suffer, and run, and hide out in hope not to be found, but the one who does not take it will be shot and hunted down but if you take it you will go hell no matter if you change your mind later. No one can make you take it, and if your child is hanicap and do not know the real meaning of it and they have him to take it he or she will go to heaven. But the one know the truth can only make their own decision. I was told to go out into the world and to tell every one this but so far no one want to hear me.

Relax, everything is just fine. there are no real problems, only imaginary ones. You are just fine, relax and enjoy the ride of your life. afterall, you are forgiven and don't have to fear anything at all. Just let the government do what it is supposed to do, take care of you. Submit to your leader's will, be peaceful like jesus was, don't resist, come along quietly or you will only get into trouble. You don't want that now do you? Well I saw this cool commercial from France the other day. This guy who looks kinda shady slips into this local store snags a couple of items off the shelf and makes for the door. His escape is thwarted by the security gaurd who says,"excuse me sir you forgot your reciept" Then the blurb of the wave of the future.... then the Verichip logo.
From what I have been able to gather is that the goverment is looking into the chip as a means of counter acting counterfits. Plus it would eliminate the need for drivers licenses and checks and credit cards and birth certificates and a whole slew of other documents that are currently needed to travel around the globe. AND! It isn't just the US that is thinking along those lines the EU and even the Asian countries are doing some research into these areas. So the comments posted by the Christian(s) aren't so far fetched as you might think.
Now I know that the administrator is waiting for me to launch into my own monolog on end times and such and being a pastor I am tempted but the guy doing the posting seems to be holding his own so you can all take a deep breath and relax. How did I know what the administrator was thinking? Well there is this RFID chip incoded into this post.......just kidding....actually it is because my handle is Faithwalker.
