Dell's UltraSharp 2005FPW widescreen 20-inch LCD monitor
Not that we should have gotten our hopes up in the first place, but we'll admit to being just a little bit excited at the prospect of Dell introducing an inexpensive (well, relatively inexpensive) 20-inch widesceen LCD monitor. That is, until we actually caught a glimpse of the 2005FPW, which sports Dell's classically cruddy industrial design (or lack thereof). The specs are nice (1680 x 1050 resolution, 600:1 contrast ration, 12ms response time), but there's no way that thing is making it to our desk.

I like much more the formac Gallery Xtreme 2010, it has more contrast ratio 700:1, it also have a better guaranty for dead pixels..

But, isn't wide-screen..
That screen doesn't look like it would be so bad if they removed that stupid speaker piece. I'm not a fan of the way Dell does their stands, but it's tolerable. Specs wise this is exactly what I want, and that's cheaper than I've yet seen. *sigh*
It might not be pretty (okay, it's downright fugly with the speaker nub moustache), but it more than makes up for it in specs vs. price.
IMHO, you can't beat the Dell UltraSharp series in terms of quality, features, and price. The 2005FPW looks to be no different.
If the new 2005FPW continues the UltraSharp trend, it will have a height-adjustable stand, portrait and landscape modes, 4 integrated USB ports, the (optional) integrated speaker module, as well as an incredible, high-quality flat panel (according to the Dell press release, it has a 12ms panel). At a price of $799 US, that's pretty hard to beat.
Don't get one without a warranty. I've had mine replaced once a year so far. When my warranty expires and the screen dies again, I'm springing for an Apple Cinema..
