TiVo permalinks for TV shows?
George Hotelling, the guy who once put a song he bought from the iTunes Music Store up for auction on eBay, has
another nifty, and probably more legal idea: why doesn't TiVo create permalinks for the different episodes of TV shows,
so that if someone talks about a TV show on their site they can add a link and all you have to do to remotely schedule
your TiVo to record it (assuming you have that remote scheduling thing set up) is click the link to add it to your ToDo
list. Microsoft, if you're listening, you'll add this feature to Windows Media Center when you roll out
MSN Remote Record.

That makes perfect sense.
I always explain TiVo to people who haven't heard of it as "It's like an awesome RSS feed reader for your TV."
Their next question is always "What's an RSS feed reader?"
I tell them "An RSS feed reader is like TiVo for blogs."
Then they go "What's a blog?"

It looks like they now have permalinks, I'm not sure if I missed it or if they just added the feature really quick, but I've updated my post with an example.

Yes, you can now share links for your favorite shows, and let your friends schedule a recording on their TiVo DVR with a simple click of the mouse. Links can be shared via email, or you can build a link for a favorite show, episode, or a specific search right into your website.
This feature has been on the drawing boards for some time. It's a happy coincidence that you made the suggestion on the same day we unveiled the feature.
How'd you know? ;)

And for those of you who have a Series2 TiVo DVR...clicking my name above will let you add a great show to your To Do List. :)

It would help, obviously, if I include the correct link! Here goes...

Had the same idea a while ago (http://www.reemer.com/archives/2004/06/27/10.14.06/), glad to see it has been implemented! It will help my content creators like my employer a bunch and will drive users to increased TiVO usage.

Disclaimer: I work at Microsoft.
I don't know much about it, but I do know our SDK for Media Center 2005 has a 'Click-to-Record' feature that 'enables applications to programmatically schedule the recording of TV programs'. And yes, it can be invoked in HTML.
