Play around with Palm OS 6.1/Cobalt
Most of you probably couldn't care much one way or the other, but there were a significant number of people who
pretty dang disappointed when it was confirmed that neither the new
Tungsten T5 nor the about-to-be-released
Treo 650 would run on the latest version of the Palm
operating system, OS 6.1/Cobalt (and palmOne's been hinting it might be until 2006 that they release a PDA that runs on
it). If you want to check out what you'll be missing, PalmSource does have an emulator you can download that'll let you
play around with the different features (true multitasking and better support for multimedia are the biggest
improvements). It's meant for developers, but anyone can download the simulator and mess around with it if they want to
see what improvements they've made.

Now only if I could build my own PDA to run it on...
PalmSource made a mistake by not killing off PalmOS 5. No hardware vendor is willing to risk moving to 6 as long as PalmSource insists that Garnet will continue to be developed. As a Palm developer, I want the stinking pile of OS 3/4/5 to disappear as quickly as possible, but it's unlikely to happen unless PalmSource delivers some sort of kick in the pants to the hardware vendors.
it's NOT an *emulator*. it's a *simulator*. you couldn't burn its ROM to a real device.
I downloaded the Cobalt 6.1 simulator and found that it is a HUGE improvement in graphical user interface.
And it seems to be bug-free and quite robust as a simulator. Why the bloody hell haven't they released smartphones and PDAs on this OS yet?????
Anybody know how to get to the browser in this thing? I couldn't find it and I heard it was supposed to be based on the NetFront core. Otherwise, a pretty lame tech demo (I realize it's supposed to be for developers, but I'm sure I'm just as anxious to see what Cobalt has to offer as everyone else is)
I want to down loaad Sumulatro 6.1 to use. Where i can?
No Mac OS X support.... tsk-tsk-tsk.
