World's smallest wireless desktop?
JK added a Bluetooth card to his tiny Sony Vaio U-70 Tablet PC (which is coming to America), allowing him to create the world's smallest desktop computer, and it's all wireless to boot, with a Bluetooth Stowaway keyboard, a Bluetake BT500 mouse, and Internet access via his Motorola V710 cellphone. The whole setup weighs a staggering 1.2 pounds, and he reports no Bluetooth speed or interference issues at all while using the keyboard, mouse, and cellphone all at once, which is just the way it should be.

It would have been simpler (and lighter) without the cell phone, just using the VAIO Wifi connexion for Internet access. Very nice anyway.
I agree Dan, but then again the idea here is ultimate portability for a fully-fledged desktop. You could pop your table up in the middle of the desert and work away as if you were in your office, so long as you have a cellphone signal.
Not that that would be a particularily smart thing to do... -_-
Does he have to look through binoculars to use it?
cool! is it with wifi? if yes we can hook up anywhere without the cellphone.
Yes it's WiFi- the cell phone is only for those times when no WiFi is around. The Sony makes a good wardriver actually. :)
Looks cool but is this really that much smaller than the Sony VAIO PCG C1 that was out a couple of years ago?
Kap
any chance we can get some specs on that bluetooth coffee mug?
hot!
The beauty of this arrangement is the ability to leave all the peripherals and go ultra light with just the Sony Tablet. Of course the coffee mug must go everywhere for the whole thing to work. :)
Very nice!
While not a big fan of Bluetooth (just because I don't have it..) it's extremely cool to see some of this hardware coming together like we have been told for so long.
Kudos on a killer setup!
my only problem is that it's a v710 which, last i checked, had crippled bluetooth making unable to connect to a computer/pda for internet connectivity. nice try though.

The v710 works flawlessly for connecting through the Internet. Check again.
I haven't been able to find this anywhere, but: is the screen "touch" sensitive or "pressure" sensitive?
The screen is a passive digitizer meaning you don't need a special pen to tap on it. You can even select stuff with your finger if you want.

Excellent. JK, how did you prop the unit up? I didn't know there was a reliable way to do this without the port replicator. (And I don't want to carry *that* around!)
the keyboard has a built in holder thing for the pc
what kind of investment did you make on all that?
Hmm...
You ain't editing in no Photoshop with that kit!

What kind of data speeds up/down does one get with a bluetooth phone like the V710?
Hmmm... I posted a comment here with a picture of my setup wich uses an OQO Model 01 handtop computer, a Sony Ericsson T68i mobile phone, the smae keyboard, and the same mouse, but it got deleted! Why?
i always kind of liked my setup:

though there is no cell access, but I haven't a cell phone (let alone a bt one) to use it. but it works pretty well and is even smaller and lighter. :)
OK, so I'm going to try posting my setup again (my comment was deleted for some reason last time I posted it):
