Internet hunting coming to Texas
Don't let anyone convince you that the Blue States have a monopoly on technologcal innovation. Case in point: a
rancher in Texas says he's going to start offering an Internet hunting service where visitors to his website can bag a
deer, antelope, and wild pigs using a remote controlled .22 caliber rifle with a webcam mounted on it (the gun is
already available for target practice right now, he's just waiting for a faster Internet connection that'll make the
gun easier to aim). But don't worry. Smokey, aka Texas Parks and Wildlife Department wildlife director Mike Berger, is
already trying to figure out how to shut this down, and has proposed a new rule that'll require anyone hunting animals
to actually be physically present at the site where they're shooting.

Dear Sirs,
We find your lazy killing machine cowardly and utterly barbaric. Firstly I'd like to say that hunting in general is barbaric in itself (an exception for native tribes that are still in existance after you viciously slatered thousands of them through sheer greed) and that if you are too fat and lazy already to actually unwedge your huge arse from your throne of McDonalds wrappers then you shouldn't be hunting at all. What's the fun (if you can describe killing innocent creatures as being fun) in hunting online?! (Fatties!) There are many hunting games to indulge in online that does not harm any living thing whatsoever but that is alot more entertaining (and cheaper I'm sure). Would people not end up using this website as a game and flippently killing creatures to indulge their bloodlust which seems to be common in all people born in Texas?
I hope you will consider our comments and stop eating so much McDonalds.
Yours sincerely,
Tarin, Judith and Alex
Ok, I have a few things to say. First of all, I think that this form of "Hunting" is a little extreme. I am a hunter but I wait for the season, get my tags my orange gear and go out in the field to find my targets. I have been around hunters and hunting my whole life and feel that this cheapens the thrill of the hunt and makes hunters in general look bad.
I do however like the shooting range application of this site, it helps allow people the chance to shoot for those who never had the chance or live in a location that makes the sport of shooting difficult. I also think that there are numerous other applications for this technology...US military uses drones controlled through this type of technology would completely cut US forces lost in the battles overseas, of course not everyone should have access to it but our military could definately make use of this I think.
To all you liberal tree huggin hippies this is what I have to say. Hunting is legal and necessary for several reasons. For example I live in the suburbs now but used to live in the country, deer come to the suburbs and cause traffic accidents, crop destruction and what's worse if they aren't hunted their population is not regulated leading to over-population. This over-population causes disease and starvation and ultimately death. It's because of legislators and ignorant general public that more deer are killed every year in my state by starvation or traffic than by hunting. We are better hunters than any animal on the planet this is why we are at the top of the food chain and Bambi is not. We as a species are natural omnivores we eat meat and veggies period.
And to Tarin, Judith and Alex, put down your boca burger and tofu plates and listen up.If you want to get your point across at least be intelligent. don't call people fatties, don't say we are the barbarians that killed indiginous people across the world. This happened before us and cannot and should not be linked to us in any sense. It people like you that upset me the most, you are not realists, you do not understand that for HUMAN survival, animals must die, trees must fall and oil must be drilled otherwise we fall. You are the ones with blinders on hoping and wishing that in the end all people can prance around in fields dancing with the animals that you have supposedly spared.
To everyone else, be realistic about life everything takes something. Nothing is free, animals are our food source, not the other way around. To be a hunter takes responsibilty, as does being a normal adult. I hope to see comments on this as I think that it argues my points well compared to some of the less thought out pieces.

It figures something this disgusting would come from Texas!! You call this innovative--it is down right crude. There is no sport in sitting at one's computer to shoot a defenseless animal. That is the laziest form of sportmanship that I have ever heard. Our country is once again subjected to another bad seed from Texas.
What is wrong with these people? This is sick. It's so clear hunters are weak...They kill animals because it makes them feel strong. It doesn't surprise me it's happening in Texas.
I think this is a great idea! After deer season is over, use the cameras for remote controlled super-soakers on 6th street in Austin, Texas. I will be the first one to pay for that service.
This great for the city folk!!
I hope this practice is banned worldwide. I am a fisherman and hunter and Texas resident and think this is sick. Maybe we can set up a website to hunt the creators of this idea.
Hey, while you're at it, could you throw a dozen BASS in an old beer barrel and I'll take a 12 gauge with buckshot and make fish stew.
Sick Man, Sick
This is a GREAT IDEA for the handicapped or the infirmed. Handicapped Hunting!!
all in favour of this hunting method reply with a YES all not in favour of it reply with a NO
Lets just see what people really think whithout all the crap shall we mr colin!!!
First of all, where is all this hostility for the state of Texas and/or its people coming from? "Another bad seed/idea/idiot?" I would love to hear where some of these people reside. The notion that stupid ideas are indigenous to Texas is as ridiculous as half of the postings on this site and the individuals who post them. I can honestly say that I have now wasted the past half hour of my time only to have read some the most idiotic slander ever. It is amazing on how so much opinion is expressed on a topic that everyone knows will never happen. I live in Georgia currently, but lived in Texas for 22 years of my life. I have also been a hunter/sportsman for the better part of my life and have been fortunate enough to be educated on the reasons of why hunting is necessary. And for those of you out there who have never been given the pleasure of such a life, I sympathize with you greatly. I have a great amount of respect for the environment and for the people who are educated/responsible enough to regulate it. AND JUST ANOTHER COMMENT FOR THE IDOITS WHO THINK THAT THIS IS JUST ANOTHER TYPICAL IDEA FROM A TEXAN: I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW THE HELL YOU KNOW THAT THIS GUY IS EVEN NATIVE TO THE STATE AND NOT BROUGHT UP IN THE SAME NEIGHBORHOOD AS SOME THE IDIOTS WHO POST THEIR REDICULOUS THOUGHTS ON THIS ISSUE? ALSO, THE BEST POSTING ON THIS PAGE SO FAR SUPPORTING THE "SPORT", HAPPENS TO BE A GUY NAMED COLIN FROM ROCHESTER, NY. HEY COLIN, WHERE ARE YOU FROM ORIGINALLY?
First of all, Internet Hunting is not hunting. Secondly, this 'video-cam' hunting will be shut down. Texas law requires that game be immediately tagged upon the kill. If you are not there, you cannot tag it.
As for the numerous comments within this forum, I will not waste my time. It seems that Curtis summed it up pretty well.
As for the anti Texas sentiment, all I can say is I am not surprised. We try to rid ourselves of all the misfits that come into the state, but you keep coming back.
If you don't like Texas, take I-40 east and go to New York. Perhaps you will fit in with that bunch of lunatics.
I know where most of the Anti-Texas attitude is coming from.
Texas tries to keep its non-violent laws to a minimum to protect people’s rights. If you are a violent offender, Texas will put you down like a rabid dog. The problem lies with our laws are limited so as not to trample on our rights.
For perfect instance, I lived in Pennsylvania for a stretch. In PA they want you to purchase a $10 moving permit just to move your personal belongings from one residence to another. PA also has an "occupational privilege tax”, which costs you $10/year for the privilege to live in PA and work there. Many northern states also do the same thing on many different levels from anything to building permits, licenses, sur charges, ect.
Here in Texas, when you mention to someone about "moving permit" or "occupational privilege tax" they laugh and say "Only a damn Yankee would charge you to move your stuff"
To get to the point, because we have more rights here, it encourages all the freaks, occultists, and general fly-by-nights from around the world to come here and set up shop with minimal government intrusion, less taxing, and less regulation. It makes Texas look bad in the long run, but I still vote for less laws and less government hands on.
As for the hunting/disabled thing, here is my take on that.
Dis-, prefix in this case meaning "absence" and able meaning "Having sufficient ability or resources" When you put the two together you come up with "Absence of having the ability or resources"
Disabled people are disabled and they can not do everything that others can do. They get paid by the government because they are disabled. It may or may not be their fault why they are disabled, but nonetheless they are disabled which limits them to certain things in life. What level of disability do we stop at? If you look at it in my terms, I am disabled to become a basketball player. I am 5'10" which puts me at a disability to other people. Should we make it law to give me the same chances as other people who are much taller than me, or maybe make it law that I can where special stilts or shoot at lower baskets? We are all disabled in some sort of way, others just more than some. If you don't have the physical means to get up off your butt, wait in a field all day, load a gun, aim, and shoot, they you have no business hunting. I don't have the physical means to climb mnt Everest, so I stay the hell off that death trap. After we set up the whole country to accommodate for the disabled, should we stop sending them disability checks since they can now do everything that everyone else does?
I am sorry, but the disabled thing is just a ploy to get started. If you can't shoot a gun, then take up something else. Next thing we will be changing movie seats to accommodate people that are 600 LBS, where will it ever stop?
2 spelling corrections to make to my last post. I was in a hurry so I did not grammer check it but anyway
SENTENCE:
"If you don't have the physical means to get up off your butt, wait in a field all day, load a gun, aim, and shoot, they you have no business hunting."
SHOULD READ:

Just wanted to correct those before so comments about Texans and literacy came up.
I should have just quit while I was ahead
Wayne,
You bring up an interesting point, however, there were government charges that I had in Texas that Georgia does NOT have. Every state is different and that doesn't mean just in Texas and Pennsylvania. I'm sure that there are a lot of other charges out there that Texas has that the other 49 do not, and some that the other 49 do that Texas does not. On your statement of disability, I agree with you. Your theory applies to other issues as well that I will not go in to. In short, if we start catering to every request of every disabled person, whether it be a physical/mental/social disability to make it to where they can do everything that a non-disabled person can, then what happens to the programs/revenue that support these different walks of life? I am willing to bet that there would be an outrage of why they don't receive money any longer.
Additionally, why the hell would you pay someone to move your own stuff???
hello, its tarin, one of the "boca burger eating hippies" as colin so wrongly accused us of being, any way i would just like to appologise for the rather inapropriate use of the word fatties in one of my earlyer entrys and would like to withdraw that word from my comment. However after reading colins reply it has only made my view upon the subject stronger as i find myself in a constant puzzle as to how or why people all over the world feel the need, (after human evolution has made sure that we need not kill to survive and that animals can live quite hapilly beside human), to shoot and then trophy or eat these animals. Are most of us still Neandathals? or are we just pure evil????
Also i would like to add that i understand that certain animals, in order to co-exist peacfully, need to be killed or culled But i fail to see how any decent human being could take any pleasure in it and also find it sickening to think these people exist. Along with our need not to kill to survive we have evolved into people with far more humane ways of culling animals which cause a hazard to cities or are growing in populating to fast.
Iam also sickened by the fact that colin has stated quite clearly that trees must fall for human survival, this is bollocks, as trees are infact VITAL for human survival as the get rid of the carbon dioxide in the air and produce oxygen And they are home to thousands of indigenous tribes who ,by the way have not evolved beyond the neandathals, and live of these trees that our twisted socioty so greedily states we need to destroy.
i find narrow minded people become powerfull and the open minded always fail, this is due to the fact that people like you, colin, exist and encourage their ignorant behaviour. the only reason, lets face it, that any one eats meat is because A)they are greedy
B)they enjoy the taste
C)they fail to realise it is wrong.
this i am sad to say accounts for most of the population of the world.
Tarin,
UK
So let me make sure I understand what you are saying...
We as a society do not need to kill animals, cut down trees, drill for oil, or anything else along these lines, to survive?
So you are perfectly fine with not having cloths to have on your back, shoes to put on your feet, means to heat your home either via wood or natural gas(and your home probably has wood in its structure as well), food/meat to eat and a number of other things that nature provides us?
HMMM...Let's not fail to mention that by doing these things: killing animals, cutting down trees, drilling for oil; people are provided jobs that in-turn provide the money necessary to support your family.
Tell you what, let's all turn in our keys to our cars, demolish our homes, shut down factories and live like people did hundreds of years ago. Then we can all start riding horses to work and school; but wait, where would you go? You have shut down most of the city with your protests. Where would you get your food? I am almost willing to bet that if you had to survive in the wild that you wouldn't even know where to start. Then lets say you got sick, you would probably die because you would let expert scientists research your beautiful forest products that provide most of the drugs that you consume and furthermore the drug companies would go bankrupt because either people couldn't make it to work or because they couldn't operate without paper or any other materials that are imperative to operate a business. That all come from the environment.
Your rambles are idiotic and empty of any reasonable truth. I am a strong supporter of protecting the environment, but you need to realize that certain things need to happen for survival.
But what the hell, what do I know? I'm just that guy from Texas.
Mmmmmmmmm.
The thread was about killing animals remotely simply because we can. Nothing to do with sport, the chase anything other than that. Kill because we can.
I shoot animals photographically, there's the chase, stalking, the silence, the shoot, but not the fun of the death and the carcass, thankfully.
Cutis, I agree with you tremendously, all these tree hugging, environmentalists forget that that the very thing they protest is the very thing that keeps them comfy, and healthy. Just like in Armageddon with Bruce Willis. In the movie some protesters are at an off shore-drilling rig in their huge yacht sized boat protesting the drilling of the oil. Bruce Willis's Character is hitting golf balls at them and laughing, and asking one of his buddies why are they protesting, do they even know how much fuel that thing (the boat) burns. That scene depicts the crazy hypocrisies that a lot of these people have. I live in Washington State; I have for 30 years, although I was born in Texas. I am a hunter, I was raised a hunter, my family hunts here and my family in Texas hunts. I will always be a hunter. I am also a tech. junky, Hip-Hop music, the newest innovations in Cell Technologies, Internet world, all of it. I value, and respect Mother Nature yet I love the future. Since I am from both side of the street, I feel that I am able to say that the two do not mix. There is just too much that goes with hunting in order for it to go right. There is not always a clean Kill, animals run. Who’s going to tract, do you get your meat, how about the rack? It just won’t happen. The laws will not allow it. Yes folks, even in Texas. Any true Hunter would NEVER entertain that option to hunt with the net anyway, we know better. The only people that would do it would be people with too much money and not enough brains. So they’ll screw it up anyway.
Being an animal lover the news of this disgusts me. Even though I am against hunting as a sport, I understand that the sport has been here since man has been on this planet. The Humane society has a petition going around for Pennsylvanians and other states to ban internet hunting. If you would like to read more on Internet Hunting and "canned" hunting which Internet hunting basically is via remote... Please check out the Humane Society's website
Ohh my god you tree huggers kill me..Thank god Gore wasnt elected or you all would be running rampant.. Shooting deer from the internet is a intresting idea but seriously where is the sport as a avid deer hunter i enjoy being in the outdoors and experincing wildlife up close and personal.. I mean who would really get a kick out of point and click deer hunting.. C'mon have we as a sociaty become so dependant of electronics(internet) we cannot do things the old fashion way.. I mean i know 98% of the USA is lazy as a UPS driver i know this by the stuff people order i mean ohh my god go to the store to get your cereal instead of complaiing to me when your box of rice crispies has a dent in it because your to Lazy to drive 3 miles and want to order it from grocery.com geez i think our nation has just got lazy and to dependent on the internet ohh well thats just my perspective..
This site is fucking bullshit. There is no way in hell anyone should be able to shoot deer, antelope, or wild hogs with a .22 caliber rifle. That is in humane and down right WRONG. You should have to be their actually hunting in order to shoot a living animal. This idea of hunting over the internet is FUCKING REDICULOUS, I hope you come to understand that. How would you like it if you were an animal getting shot at by a bunch of people on the internet just to let them shoot at the animals for no reason. This is FUCKING BULLSHIT!!! I hope this site gets shut down and I hope hunting over the internet will be outlawed and banned in the entire world forever.

I live up north and up here its a way of life not just a hobby lol there is nothing wrong with taking an animale killing it and eating it or hell just for the sport what about fishing how many people do that is that cruel
and inhumane i think not and you out there that dont hunt or fish dont go and get yourself a burger at mcdonalds dosent it say in the bible that these animals were put on this earth for us to eat and for are enjoyment
so what if are enjoyment means blowing there head off at 300 yards with a high power rifle
i think all you animal lovers better get your head on right we only get a 2day and then a 4 day weekend to kill white tail i would love to have more time but anyway i would have to agree on one thing 22 cal is way to small if you mount a 300 mag or 7mm mag that would be sweet
