BrainPort sensory substitution device rights wobblers and promises more

BrainPort

Wicab, Inc. are preparing to release BrainPort, a sensory substitution device that will allow people to use one sense for another. In one test case, patient Cheryl Schilz, who had a damaged vestibular system (the system that keeps you upright), was able to use BrainPort with her tongue to re-train her sense of balance. Other promised applications include the use of BrainPort for pilots in poor weather conditions or surgeons operating blind. The technology will first be sold to the health industry and - who knows - could become a videogame accessory in a few years.
