RTX cordless phones with VoIP capability
RTX Telecom (a Danish outfit) has signed an
agreement with Skype to create cordless phones that would work with both landlines and Voice over IP (VoIP) Internet
calls. The phone's base easily connects to a PC via USB (and a regular old telephone jack for the landline part), but
unless you are in Scandanavia (or are gonna go to the trouble to import one), it's not yet available yet.

That would not work either. Their "Cordless DUALphone" http://www.rtx.dk/C1256E68003AFF99/0/4684E426C1999B1CC1256E680044A0C6?open is based on the DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telephony) standard popular in Europe that seems to run in 1880-1900MHz which is licensed spectrum here in the US (i.e. you would be breaking the law and FCC would not be happy).
By the way, for an interesting view of spectrum use in the US, check-out the US Frequency Allocation Chart http://www.ntia.doc.gov/osmhome/allochrt.html. This page includes links to a PDF chart and a PDF table of the radio spectrum from below 9 KHz to the currently unallocated 275 - 1000 GHz. It includes US and international (3 regions) information. Perfect print-out for a wireless geek (yeah, I'm about to go to the color printer and get mine).
My personal favorite find on the chart are the many ranges designated for "amateur-satelite" use! I really had no idea there was much of that.

Here in France my ADSL provider is giving me free national calls in addition to my 6 Mbits/s connection, and some TV canals too, all for 30 Euros (about $40).
Put this with such a VoIP enabled phone and it have virtually free calls everywhere in the world.
