I got a Creative Nomad Zen Extra for my girlfriend last christmas. It was a nice little bit of hardware and she liked it but the damn back battery cover would fall off very easily. And then one day about 5 months after she got it the harddrive died. Boo. Went to Best Buy to get a new one (with the protection plan) and she decided to go with a Philips HDD120. Nice looking unit in black and silver and I like the feel of it in your hand. It's also held up great... and is still going strong with her as she spends 6 weeks in the field in Antarctica.
Even so, after all this when I decided to get an MP3 player of my own I went with a 20 gig 4G iPod. I just like the way it feels, the UI, and the accessories available.
I've done extensive research and I just like the overall "gestalt" of the iPod better than any other player out there today. Not all iPod users are uninformed consumers riding the wave of consumer trendiness. Some people simply like them better than anything else out there. :)
