I use my iPod while snowboarding. Sometimes I get nervous about the impact I'm having on the iPod during hard falls. This might be a good way to protect it.

... And since it's already cold, the heat isn't likely to be an issue. If anything it will help battery life, since the iPod is known to have shorter battery life when it's cold.
