PSP vs. DS
If you've really been dying to know how the PlayStation Portable compares to the Nintendo DS in terms of size,
Lik-sang has a pic of the two side-by-side. There might be only one of them, but the screen on the PSP is, uh, very
big.
[Via Joystiq]

ds_forever, the PSP is lighter than the DS. Not the other way around:
DS: 275g
PSP: 260g
OK so most of you people say the DS sucks because the PSP graphics are way better. Whoever is reading this comment right now I want you to think about this, okay? There's gonna be a time in the future when videogame graphics are gonna be top notch and can't improve anymore, the only thing that will be able to improve is the gameplay. Now do you see why gameplay matters more than graphics? Anyway, usually the people that say the DS sucks are usually the people that don't own it. The DS doesn't suck. If DS sucked why would it have so many features like the ability to play GBA games and new DS games, chat with friends, play multiplayer with friends, play multiplayer online soon, a calendar, an alarm, a clock, and even make animations in pictochat? I don't have a psp so I really don't know all of the features and I can't really talk bad about it. BUT I have played one before I even bought a DS. The DS games are more addictive and innovative and creative in my opinion. And if you psp fans don't like it get over it, because we all have different opinions on things.
This is too all you ds fanny boys dissing the psp,for no good reason!
the ds is a one trick pony period! all it has going for it, is a stylus and oddly named immature games like pokemon,yu-gi-oh,kirby takes a dump, tamagotchi!!(come on!),mario aka nintendo whore and the like,
yes we know, there is metroid prime,(big whoop)
and resident evil(with vomit like textures!) ohh and wait theres splinter cell??? pleeeeeaaaase a drop in the ocean!
, compared to all the crappy ds games!! shrek is for every1 please!!! all you ds owners that say mario, shrek are mature are probably no older than 14 you youngsters!
sure it doesnt stop, adults from playing, but its still mainly targeted to diaper wearing ninty fans!
yes the ds is selling more in japan but not in the US, but its having its ASS handed to it in the uk, africa, singapore, australia, and europe in general,in the US psp and ds are virtually tie.
sony is making a splash in the handheld market, its being recognised as a must have gadget and seems to be assuming an ipod like role, infact the psp has sold more than the ipod and dvd players in their first years!
the psp is a dynamic system, unlike the ds!!
the psp you see know, will be completely different to what we see know, unlike your ds!
you know it's quite funny, all you ds owners tout psp as a jack of all trades master of none, but when nintendo, releases, useless video attachments for the ds, and other wifi and other stupid attachments for hacking, you boast as how the ds can have the same features as a psp? pleeeeaaaasseee,
the psp now has a media manager that converts your videos automatically from most formats to mp4, making its video functions more 'friendly'
it even downloads movies when your asleep and converts them to your settings!!!
anyways with the possibility of playing ps2 games using location free, sony products, or the ps3 in your room!!! using streaming or whatever, is absolutely incredible!
we'll see how these concepts materialize, in reality, but thats far more interesting than having a ds and wifi AS THE NEXT BIG THING??! (come on!!), and all you people who think a ds is good for RTS YOU MUST BE JOKING!, i've had a ds for 5 months now, and a stylus's accuracy is questionable ('if you still have one!!!')
anyways knowing nintendo it'll be a very simple rts with units
featuring mario, wario, luigi, kirby and Yoshi troops ???!!! (guess what, they'll probably say thats innovative!)
i am being a fanboy but after months of putting up with pixelator or beeves BS i can't take it!
anyways the psp is sitting on about half the sales of the ds,(considering the price), and the ds has maximised on 2 price cuts and dirt cheap products,(which is not bad!)
the psp has been received well and can only get better, sony is addressing the psp problems
, things like battery life, and video conversion are no longer a problem, the psp will be released with a 1GB stick now! which is only $299 with your value pack, XBOX is STILL making a loss on its first console, the PSP, which is sony first attempt at the console market will break-even after only 2 years!
anyways, the psp is in the spotlight, and is becoming a cultural phenommenon in the uk at least unlike the gizmondo, and the ds is the same old, cheap, boring, zelda is cool bull crap!
im sorry did i hurt your feelings?? grow up then..MUHAHHAHAHAHHA
p.s please mention nintendogs and watch me flame you to bits!
Strife:

What? Half of that I had no idea what you said. For your information, the Europe is the smallest videogame market. I don't think Australia and Africa $ Singapore combined are bigger than 2/3 of the US market.
http://www.neoseeker.com/news/story/4584/
DS is selling better than the PSP overall, and that's what matters. ALso, I don't give a crap about Shrek games, they're for all consoles, not just Nintendo. Diaper-wearing Ninty-fans? Grow-up.
pixelator:
"THAT makes you a Nintendo fanboy. And again, emulating a game doesn't automatically mean you're breaking the law. "
No, it doesn't. I also hate PearPC and CherryOS for emulating Mac OS X on a Wintel machine. But I am not a Mac fanboy. I'm typing a school article on Microsoft Word.
Also, update from the PSP kid at school
"The battery life does not suck. i get about 10 hours from a 30 min recharge. And Nintendo is copying off Sony with making GBA movies."
I seriously need to knock some sense into this kid.
Chow!
whoop de doo hurray for the psp! But the thing is I DON'T CARE! You can't keep me from loving my DS. I'm 16 years old enjoying my DS. You can say it's for kids all you want but it's a shame you can't list all of the DS games out right now. You ain't got nothin' bad to say about the really good DS games like meteos, advanced wars, and NO those aren't the only good games for the DS. When DS goes WI-FI it's over! The DS sales are gonna go flying up. I'm not saying the PSP sucks because I don't have one, and I don't want one. I know for a fact you don't have a DS because you are basically blowing out a product that is selling good and will continue to sell good. Like I said before when DS goes WI-FI it's all over and I know you're gonna try to talk crap about it but there ain't gonna be one DS fan paying any attention to you because they're gonna be too busy having fun with the DS WI-FI! Nintendogs is a great game that sold very well so theres no need to talk crap about it!
by the way the psp has had wifi-since it was
released, probably about 1 billion times more useful, than playing MARIO KART...wait for it...ONLINE!!!!...tsk tsk, consumers these days,
hey scrumshus, or scrum-face!
your stats are ancient, its more like
2.9 million PSP units to 6.7 million ds units!
anyways for the psp price, that is acceptable,
and anyways sony is still new in the portable market! it's like XBOX vs PS2, that's pretty tough, at least sony is making better in roads to the market than xbox did to ps2, and i repeat, the psp is either in a dead-heat or winning in most markets except japan! honestly , do some research and dont go to gcadvance or other ninty biased forums that have the audacity, to lump the psp sales vs the ds AND GBA! sheesh, the psp is a good product, not a miracle cure!!!
online??? can a ds do MSN effectively with less than 100 MHZ?
anyways the ds version of online is serverly limited, it probably only supports max 8 players.
i can already play twisted metal and NBA 06 ONLINE, with no lag at all, and soon infected and socom.
hey i dont care about being diplomatic to all you ninty fanny boys, spreading misinformation about the psp.fanny boys must be put in their place! and you know who you are!
Look at all the crap the psp has had to put up with in the last few months.
DS fannyboys have been throwing stones at the psp, hoping and praying it fails, TOO BAD it didnt. Heres some of the crap the psp has had to put up with!
psp will cost $ 350
psp games will cost $50
psp umd's fly
psp is fragile? (whatever! its not as fragile as it looks)
ds has better speakers??
the psp sound is distorted???
the psp is heavier and bulkier than a ds??? , the graphics on a ds are on par with a PSP???, the psp screen scratches easily????, battery life is 2 hours or less????
anyways with comments like these, i HAVE NO RESPECT for NINTENDO FANS, any forum that has anything to do with psp, gets attacked by rabid ninty fans.
the psp is in competition with ipod, but the relationship with fans is far more civilised, each product, gives itself space!
BUT NO, anything to do with the psp is compared with the DS, psp fans, are usually reserved and dont rant on and on and on like ds fans, so it seems as if ninty fans own the zone, well they do, but its no sure-footing, and if i were nintendo i would get a serious wake up call!
if nintendo loses here! its GAME OVER, and finally nintendo can give up on hardware and go the WAY OF SEGA!,YAY!
Nintendo will Make far more money by making multi-platform games! dont you think?
ds fans have predicted the doom of the psp,, and a host of other reasons for the systems demise, and the psp is slowly but surely proving itself against the adversity that is the NINTENDO FANNYBOY!
"No, it doesn't. I also hate PearPC and CherryOS for emulating Mac OS X on a Wintel machine. But I am not a Mac fanboy. I'm typing a school article on Microsoft Word"
Yes, it DOES. It's because you 'hate' that the PSP plays (LEGAL) emulated Nintendo games that upsets you - not emulation on PC, not on a PDA, but the PSP.
And you're also (apparently) a Mac fanboy (the worst of the bunch - and I had Apple computers long before you were even born) because again, you don't 'hate' the Mac emulating Windows, just when a Windows machine emulates the Mac.
It's the DOUBLE STANDARD of preferring or disliking a feature or trait on one thing that another thing does that DEFINES FANBOYISM. You, beeves, soup-ass and the rest of the hysterical Nintendo fanatics here are EXACTLY alike in this regard.
The previous post here illustrates one thing extremely well - the omnipresence of Sony bashing, hating, angry NINTENDO FANBOYS on any and every thread even remotely relating to the DS *or* PSP. You lot are the most outspoken and disruptive fanboy contingent in the entire game industry, despite being a small minority in the console wars (and perhaps, soon the handheld wars as well). You can't even SAY 'PSP' in any open forum or thread online without a gaggle of DSsies piling up with the same old tired rhetoric about short battery life, UMD failure, UMDs flying, fragility, ports, price, etc. etc.
The sad thing is, while there's still much to like about Nintendo, they haven't exactly BEEN there for their fans, lately. I think the DS could have been better - absolutely. I don't hate it, but obviously the technology existed to make the screen(s) better, regular WiFi online sooner (and not crippled), higher capacity carts if not discs, true USB, memory card expansion slots, better use of space (all that expanse of plastic looks terribly cheap) and then there was the 10-month lag of very few decent games...
Of course the PSP is imperfect. I've said it repeatedly, it needs more original games, a keyboard, more infrastructure online titles and there were definitely hardware compromises, like the screen having a low response causing smearing, lack of outdoor visibility, loading times for UMD and failure of Sony to provide for full resolution DVD rips or shipping a functional web browser with the thing at launch. Lots of issues, really - but the point is how is the system as a WHOLE? It's incredibly impressive and will likely do more to truly advance and expand the handheld market than Nintendo has in the last 15 years, which is something no NINTENDO FANBOY will ever admit.
The DS online is gonna be great. That's just something you PSP fans/DS haterz can't stand. I have a portable DVD player with like 3 other DVD players in my house with almost 100 DVD's to play in them, i'm not gonna buy a psp then have to start all over with a new movie collection for it. I'm not a Fanboy at all , okay!!?? I'm just tired of most of you people here talking crap about the DS when it doesn't even suck! If it sucked as bad as you guys say it does then it wouldn't have sold over a million units! You PSP lovers/DS haterz love it when there is a problem or fault found on the DS, because then you get your chance to come here and say why people shouldn't buy it, and then you just say how much better the PSP is than the DS even more! I mean who cares which system is best? When PS2, XBOX, and GC first came out there was a huge war on which one was best. Nobody cares which console is best anymore, everyone just bought whatever they wanted and lived on with there lives. There are many different kind of fans in this world. The PSP doesn't suck at all and it is a great system, but I already told you I can't afford it, I already have a portable DVD player, and I have an mp3 player already. If anybody here really wants a psp just buy it, I don't care because I bought the system I wanted (DS) and i'm happy with it! If you guys think the DS looks that cheap guess what, i've had mine every since the day it came out and it works perfect and it looks great. Yeah you can say all Nintendo DS fans are alike, so are psp fans! When the DS came out everything was just fine, then when psp came out the only thing psp fans did was say the ds sucked! If you don't like the DS it is this simple.... JUST DON'T BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!
"Yes, it DOES. It's because you 'hate' that the PSP plays (LEGAL) emulated Nintendo games that upsets you - not emulation on PC, not on a PDA, but the PSP.
And you're also (apparently) a Mac fanboy (the worst of the bunch - and I had Apple computers long before you were even born) because again, you don't 'hate' the Mac emulating Windows, just when a Windows machine emulates the Mac"
I do hate that Microsoft deveolped Virtual PC for the Mac. What's the point? Apple has programs that match all of Microsoft's offerings. Don't ever call me a Mac fanboy. However, I do like Word, and Powerpoint. I've also never heard of a N(S)ES emulator on a PDA and all of these so-called 'emulations' on the PC and Mac aren't even real emulations and are complete crap.
"I don't hate it, but obviously the technology existed to make the screen(s) better, regular WiFi online sooner (and not crippled), higher capacity carts if not discs, true USB, memory card expansion slots, better use of space (all that expanse of plastic looks terribly cheap)"
Remember pixelator, its not the technology that make up the system, it's how compelling the games are and how useful the system is. Power is never anything. In the video-game world power=failure. The PSP seems to be faring pretty well, but not great as the more powerful console like the N64. Not bad, but not thrilling.
And as a question to everyone that posts here-do you ever visit my website? Do I need to add/subtract anything?
Chow!
"The DS online is gonna be great. That's just something you PSP fans/DS haterz can't stand."
If, instead of knee-jerking your Nintendoworshipping response, you had actually bothered to read ANYTHING up the thread that I'd posted, you'd know I own a Cobalt SP, Graphite SP+, Silver Micro and a Japanese Graphite DS. That's in addition to my GC, N64, Virtual Boy, SNES, SuperFamicom and portable HK Famicom handheld (PortaFami). Who's the real Nintendo fan (not fanBOY), here? Why, I think it's ME. Do you have a Mario Bros. and Popeye Game & Watch Panorama? Didn't think so.
"I bought the system I wanted (DS) and i'm happy with it! If you guys think the DS looks that cheap guess what, i've had mine every since the day it came out and it works perfect and it looks great."
Defensive, much? Can't you just accept that it's not going to win any beauty contests? It's just not a good looking design.
"Apple has programs that match all of Microsoft's offerings."
It's not Apple software most people are concerned about. It's all the other software developers people tend to buy WinXP boxes for (that isn't available for the tiny Mac market).
"Remember pixelator, its not the technology that make up the system, it's how compelling the games are and how useful the system is. Power is never anything."
Power is relevant if games use it to any sort of advantage to make them better. So far, it's highly arguable that stylus control and dual screens have made DS games better. OTOH, it's a given that the PSP power has made games like Burnout and GTA possible. And no, sorry, Burnout DS doesn't impress me.
"The PSP seems to be faring pretty well, but not great as the more powerful console like the N64. Not bad, but not thrilling."
At last count, it's still outselling the PSP in the USA. I'd say that's pretty thrilling for a newcomer to the handheld market competing against THREE different Nintendo handhelds, all three of which play highly-entrenched GBA games.
Edit: Outselling the DS in the USA.
"I bought the system I wanted (DS) and i'm happy with it! If you guys think the DS looks that cheap guess what, i've had mine every since the day it came out and it works perfect and it looks great."
'Defensive, much? Can't you just accept that it's not going to win any beauty contests? It's just not a good looking design.'
Can't you just accept that he prefers the DS? I don't see why you had to respond to this comment, he was just stating that his DS is still working perfectly and that it looks fine. And it's an opinion if you think the DS looks ugly. Sure, I think the PSP has a better design, but for crying out loud, it doesn't have to be a fact.
' i HAVE NO RESPECT for NINTENDO FANS'
The word is 'fanboys'. Nintendo fans are those who are a supportive of Nintendo but respect other companies like Sony and MS. Nintendo fanboys are those who worship Nintendo and Nintendo only. They constantly bash other companies regardless of their games, consoles, products etc. And I have to admit that Ninty fanboys can be the worst, and they can make us normal Ninty fans look just plain bad.
'any forum that has anything to do with psp, gets attacked by rabid ninty fans.'
I find this a little exagerrating. In my experience, I haven't seen many Ninty fanboys lurking in PSP forums and sneaking up and bashing on everything they see. Sure, it has happened but I haven't seen many. However, every now and again, I do find some Sony fanboys on next-gen forums, saying how 'the PS3 is going to wipe the 360 and the Rev across the floor'.
'ds has better speakers?? '
Well, after playing the DS and the PSP, I though the DS's speakers sounded louder. But both sound better with headphones.
'by the way the psp has had wifi-since it was
released, probably about 1 billion times more usefu'
The perfect Sony fanboy comment. Ahhh, how it is music to my ears. 1 billion times better... lovin' those stats.
For crying out loud, the Nintendo Wi-Fi Online Service isn't even out yet, so save your comments for later.
'MARIO KART...wait for it...ONLINE!!!!...tsk tsk,consumers these days,'
Isn't this like saying, 'GTA... wait for it... ON A HANDHELD!!!!!... tsk tsk, consumers these days'
Not that I mean to diss GTA. I love the series and I'm very keen to try out LCS.
And if you've actually looked up Mario Kart DS, you'll see this is much different to the other MKs. There are 16 new tracks, new karts, tons of unlockables, online play, mission mode, new weapons, new battle arenas, 8-player DS download (or multicart) play, and customizable hood decals which you can decorate via the touch-screen. Hell, this could be the best MK out of the whole series. There's a video on IGN for all to enjoy.
Speaking of which, I was playing Castlevania DS the other day (great game which I recommend to all DS-owners) and then someone came up and said 'DS sucks. PSP is much better'. I defended this statement by saying that I just preferred the games for the DS. Still, he wouldn't keep quiet. Then I told him about Mario Kart DS and he said 'Woah, I'd get a DS just for that!' I was rather surprised by how quickly his opinion changed.
Anyone gonna pick MK DS on the 14th? I challenge anyone to a race!
"At last count, it's still outselling the PSP in the USA. I'd say that's pretty thrilling for a newcomer to the handheld market competing against THREE different Nintendo handhelds, all three of which play highly-entrenched GBA games."
It's not how much sales in one area are concerned, but globaly. The DS might be losing in UK (still not sure about USA-got any links?) but globaly it's winning. LIke the Xbox to Gamecube. Gamecube does better all around, while Xbox is only sellling well in USA.
"Anyone gonna pick MK DS on the 14th? I challenge anyone to a race!"
Maybe not on the exact day of the release, but I'll get it definatly after Thanksgiving.
Thankyou for taking up for me "Beeves", I appreciate that. I do prefer the DS. Does it make me a bad person for having a DS? Does it? I'm gonna pick up Mario Kart on the 14th. If your looking for a challenge Beeves I will be more than happy to challenge you......Bring it on! Do you think they will use Pictochat online too? They probably won't.
Man I can't wait until November 14th!
I can see that Nintendo is focusing more on innovation in the DS games, which is a good thing. Some people might think that the DS has childish games and the DS is for kids......nobody here has any true facts that only and mostly kids have a DS, they just assume since the DS has a few colorful games like mario, kirby, and bomberman. What if Mario could carry around an AK-47 to kill his enemies, would that make it a game for adults? And what if CJ from GTA San Andreas could only hop on people to kill them, then would GTA San Andreas be a childish game? There are different styles of games out there. A childish system with childish games would be a Leapster (now that's a childish system). There are kids out there that enjoy playing GTA and there are adults that enjoy playing Mario. All because a game doesn't have ultra violent content doesn't mean it's a childish game. Nintendo makes games that are for everyone to play (just read the ESRB rating, it doesn't say anywhere on the label FOR KIDS ONLY)), and if you don't like'em don't buy'em, and let the people that want to play those games play them and live on with there lives!
There are people out there that seriously don't like the DS and they just bash it all day long! Both DS and PSP are doing equally well right now in the markets so neither of them suck! The DS could get a score of a 1 out of 10 and I will still keep my DS, and I will still love it. The DS could also get out sold by 1 million units and I will still have my DS and I will still love it. I know there are some PSP fans that hate seeing loyalty from Nintendo fans, but that's something PSP fans have to get over cuz I ain't selling my DS for nothin'!!! Now that's all I gotta say about' that!!!
hey check out this site. It's my name highlighted in blue. It's for all DS fans.

Well. I knew about the Japan sales figures, but I thought both handhelds had sold more worldwide. Where'd you get the numbers?
'nobody here has any true facts that only and mostly kids have a DS, they just assume since the DS has a few colorful games like mario, kirby, and bomberman'
Yeah, I also hate it when people immediately assume that Nintendo is aiming only for kids. To get everyone to shut up about this once and for all I have found a quote made by Shigeru Miyamoto which states the following:
'We want our games to be for anyone from 5 to 95 years old.
We disagree with people who say, "Nintendo is for kids, and Sony is for adults." There are plenty of 60-year-olds who will play the games we make. Women in their 20s haven't been a major target for game makers. But many young women have found our games fun, especially Nintendogs.'
For any fanboy who thinks I'm making this up, here is a link:

'I know there are some PSP fans that hate seeing loyalty from Nintendo fans, but that's something PSP fans have to get over cuz I ain't selling my DS for nothin'!!! Now that's all I gotta say about' that!!!'
Sort of brings a tear to my eye... :')
I wouldn't go as far as saying that I couldn't live my life without a DS, but it's definitely a lot of fun and I'm glad a chose it over a PSP.
Oh, by the way, for DS-fans, there's some new Metroid Prime: Hunters footage on IGN which is lookin' pretty good. The DS has such a great line-up of games that I'm looking forward to, it's going to constantly lighten my wallet. Viewtiful Joe, Mario Kart, Age of Empires, Sonic Rush, Mario & Luigi, MP:H, Animal Crossing, Tony Hawk AS and Electroplankton will all be out America by March of 2006 (yes, Electoplankton is hitting US shores. But you can only buy it on online retail stores). And four of those titles will be online. God, life is good!

Thank you Beeves. Good statement.
Now that I saw that great line up of DS games I might never quit playing my DS. I'm really looking foward to those games (especially Metroid and Mario Kart). peace.
Nice post Beeves, gotta love that MP:H footage! Man, this week I rented Metroid Prime for the Gamecube for the first time and now I now what the craze for MP:H is for. I want it! In fact, with so many great DS titles out and upcoming, my Christmas list is filled:
Mario Kart DS
Metroid Prime Hunters
Trauma Center
Castlevania
Nintendogs
and many others...
Electroplankton isn't on there because it comes to the States in January.
I also picked up some -interesting' and 'eerie' information on the Xbox 360.... and the Dreamcast.

As long as we're feeling happy for the DS's titles, sales, etc. I just thought: Were did AVENGER go? It would be intersting to see him/her again.
Chow!
Scrumshus, MP:H doesn't come out till March. It was going to come out in August of this year, but it was delayed so it could be used for online play.
the PSP definantly has better looks than the DS. And it can do way more stuff. I think of the PSP as, "The big boy toy."

whoops^^
The DS is way better than the PSP. Who cares about looks? It's gameplay that matters. What that other guy (number 16) said about the touch screen ain't true. I have a DS, and I have GoldenEye:Rogue Agent. You can choose to use the stylus, or you can use the buttons to play. Plus, if ur bored you can doodle by yourself on PictoChat. The Touch screen also allows for a ton more buttons. You can't get Mario 64 on PSP, so it's not good in that respect either. I've heard that PSP has better graphics, that may be true, but would you like some crappy game with excellent shading and eyebrows and stuff, or would you rather have a GREAT game with slightly worse graphics? So? What's it gonna be?
When I see DS, I see ugly, crappy games, ugly screen, not well put together, all it does is play games, and it has a clock. Wow, its like so good.
When I see PSP, I see sleek machine, nice screen, wayy better graphics and games, a digital camera, I can download pictures of my Kitty onto the backround, I listen to music, I watch my cool movies without lugging my huge TV to camp, I see... Greatness.
Ok well I have something to say. Nobody can say which one is better if you don't have one or both. I have a ds and yes it is a great system. I also heard the psp was great. To me I would rather trust nintendo's ds than the psp. I mean because nintendo has been making handhelds for years and sony only made one handheld (PSP). About games, now you can't really say anything about it. I mean they are both brand new systems and it takes time to make games. Like in Japan (or China idk) they are already making resident evil deadly silence for the ds and it looks like it's gonna kick butt. Also they are making final fantasys for the ds. All I have to say is none is better than the other. They are both AWESOME systems and I wouldn'y say one is better than the other. You don't have to listen to me but it's your opinion that counts.
i have both the consoles, and my mate, got so annoyed with his DS after one day, he smashed the screen over his knee?!?! kinda shows something! anyway, the PSP can do so much more than the cheap plasticy boring DS... whos with me?!?!
I think that the psp is geared towards adults way more than the DS wiht its style and games avalible for it. I mean come on who doest want to have GTA and 6 episodes of family guy in their pocket.
'the PSP can do so much more than the cheap plasticy boring DS...'
Apart from sell more. ;)
'i have both the consoles, and my mate, got so annoyed with his DS after one day, he smashed the screen over his knee?!?! kinda shows something!'
What does it show? Is he tough, now? He just broke a DS and now he thinks he's king of the frikkin' world?
'When I see DS, I see ugly, crappy games, ugly screen, not well put together, all it does is play games, and it has a clock. Wow, its like so good.'
It plays games. IT PLAYS GAMES. For f*ck's sakes, all the NES did was play games and it's one of the greatest consoles ever. The Gamecube plays games, the Playstation plays games, the GBA plays games, what's wrong with it? If you think the DS's games are crappy, well then, you've obviously never heard of such games as Mario Kart DS, Animal Crossing, Nintendogs, Mario & Luigi 2 or Meteos. I personally think the DS, although it doesn't look better than the PSP, has clamshell design that definitely works, because it protects both screens.
'When I see PSP, I see sleek machine, nice screen, wayy better graphics and games, a digital camera, I can download pictures of my Kitty onto the backround, I listen to music, I watch my cool movies without lugging my huge TV to camp, I see... Greatness.'
It's hard to take you seriously when you say you like to download pictures of your kitty onto your background. Games are opinions, although I personally think the number of good games being released on the PSP are fading.
'I've heard that PSP has better graphics'
You have instantly given away that you HAVEN'T played a PSP before. I advise you to play one first and then make your opinion.
It does'nt matter what a system looks like!Or the size!Maybe the graphics, but I'm 11 years old.I wanted a ds for a long time, but I asked for a psp instead. When I got it,it was amasing! It was so much fun(and it still is). Then, the next day my freind came over with a ds and man,am I ever glad I got a psp!The graphics on the ds were horrible, the gameplay was boring and as I was playing it,it felt like I was holding a cheap peice of plastic!Psp is the way to go,touch screen or not.
First, you say,
'it does'nt matter what a system looks like!'
and then you say
'it felt like I was holding a cheap peice of plastic!'
Nice work.
'The graphics on the ds were horrible'
I hate these comments. The graphics aren't good as the PSP, that's true, but that's not a reason why one should say they're horrible. People were impressed with the DS's graphical abilities when it first came out on the market. Then the PSP came out and everyone said the DS's graphics were crap. I personally think the graphics for a lot of the DS's games look pretty good. It's not like you see a huge pixelated mess on the screen(s).
'the gameplay was boring '
Which games did he show you?
'Psp is the way to go,touch screen or not.'
Because of course, people love to take advice from an 11-year-old with the name, 'lil dude'.
DS=$120
PSP=$250

Hi, um I left some poop in the kennel
Call me,
Rooney
just rounding up and agreeing with the majority, ds has kiddie games, bad grafix, and no multimedia, or in other words, it just sucks.
psp for me
I play my DS on plane flights all the time. The wifi isn't active unless you enter pictochat, or search for downloads...
Whoever told you otherwise is feeding you bullshit.
My friend has PSP and i played it, graphics are pretty good not thrilling. I've had a gameboy, gambeoy color a GBA and haven't purchased the DS. But the only thing i find that the PSP can offer is that it is a multimedia player, for fuck sakes there's a DVD in my xbox and in my tv's and my laptop why the fuck would i want to watch a movie in a little screen? DS who cares about style it's about functionality. You mean to tell me if the DS had better styling that you would buy it? Don't follow trends and fads. What is important is if it's worth the money. Also you guys mention scratch resistant coating? ha! gimmick see how long it's gonna take to wear off especially when you put it in your pocket or bag pack. As for the DS, i hated the pen and yes Nintendo come on make some games for adults and perhaps i'll buy a Nintendo system. the last one i owned was an NES. thx bye bye
DS is better when you compare it in price.
best bang for buck!
You would have to be a special kind of stupid to think the PSP has better games or is for the more sophisticated. It has been multi-functioned to hell so it sucks at everything, but is good at nothing. If you want to watch a movie on it you have to pay $35 minimum for UMDs, compared to $25 movie DVDs. The only hit game it has had for the last 5 months has been a rehash (GTA: Liberty City Stories).
The DS has had (Castlevania DS, Mario Kart DS, Trauma Center, Phoenix Wright, Tony Hawk, and AA:WW.) Three of those are considered on the mature end of the spectrum, especially Castlevania with all its satanic soul-stealing occult imagery.
I am 19 and I have had both a DS and a PSP up until last week. I sold my PSP, because I don't want to pay $35 for movies I can watch on my PS2 for $20, and $39 for games I have already played on my PS2.
There is a reason that when push came to shove, the DS outsold the PSP in both Japan and the US this year. And if you add in SP sales, it was a fucking blowout.

The DS is the PS2 of handhelds. It has all the big games, and backwards compatability. The PSP is like the Xbox of handhelds, except it doesn't have a Halo-Killer App to move units.
it's january 2006, i can't believe you people are still arguing for the last two years over the dumbest debate i've ever come across. it's like saying which is better, cheese cake or carrot cake? realistically, it depends on who you are and what you're looking for. some can't take the cheese and some don't prefer carrots.
you DS loyalists have been bashing the psp before it was released and are pretty much saying the same crap long after it's been released already. i'm not a DS loyalist but i've owned a DS for a good year. as a matter of fact i've owned every single gameboy that ever came out and yes, wonderful portable systems they were. the games are fantastic and the price is great. im not gonna bash anything here.
i bought a psp, and through it, i found that i just happen to love doing other things besides playing video games for freakin 18 hours. yeah i like watching family guy episodes, or saving private ryan in 24-bit when the plane's movie sucks, or reading comics i downloaded, or listening to music, or checking my email or reading forums like this one. and every once in a while i like to gun down gangsters or score a run-in touchdown.
i liked hitting other people with shells in a gokart, i really did. but that's all i DID with the DS. sure there's media hacks for the DS but i really don't want my eyes to go bad. and if you argue for the DS, don't use hacks as a reason- be fair. people hack the hell out of the psp too. you've got media now, and i've got emulation. but you rarely watch media on your DS and i rarely play emulated games so we're even and we're just different.
after FOUR days of owning the psp my DS sat in its lonely case along with 20+ games. cuz if i wanted to share cool videos with my friends, or jot something down in my datebook or gun down gangsters, i don't wanna bring both systems. and get this, this is very crucial here : my friend who also had a psp, was curious about the DS so i sold it to him on that fifth day. what did he do? he stopped playing his psp.
that's right, i enjoy my psp more than the ds and he enjoys the ds more than the psp. are we still friends? to this very day. it just depends on what you want and what you're willing to pay for. i'll pay the extra hundred bucks for all that "crap" that you can do out of the box, im paying for convenience. some people pay more for a car with leather seats. some of us think its not worth the money or maybe impractical but if they really like it, then they truly got what they paid for.
