What is the significance of Dec 12 and the DoNotCall Registry? I must have missed something. And since when are telemarketers allowed to call cell phones? That is rediculous. The only way that should be legal is if they are willing to pay my airtime!
This was an excellent podcast. Big ups for your thoughts on China. I totally agree that China is where the money is.
Keep up the great work!
I can't wait to change the iPod graphics, thanks for the link.
Duuuuude. Where did you get that 2XL? I was just thinking about that guy the other day. I loved his laugh most of all.
I don't think Apple *has* to get into the flash market. What they really need to do is drop the iPod mini's price to better-compete in the flash market - $199 is at the high-end of the market, and would be enough to poach a lot of flash users.
Phillip,
I'm just wondering why the sound quality is so low. Is it your microphone? The mp3 file is plenty high resolution and fair bitrate for voice content (24Khz, 48 Kbps) but your voice sounds all metallic and screechy. Compared to another podcast like WholeWheatRadio who has similar encoding characteristics, theirs sounds tons better.
You may also consider enconding in mono, cuz I'm not sure stereo is doing any good.
This podcast #20 is especially hard on my ears. I just wanted to point that out because it's really a shame that I like the content, the comments, the reviews, the opinion, but I can't enjoy it as much as I could.
Thanks for telling me rant...

implemented something loosely known as "fcast" - I used this podcast from Phillip as a sample. Its merely a prototype of something to be developed into something much more robust - both standalone and also as a larger system to encompass a site's full podcast xml feed.
I love Phillip's podcasts... and I wonder about the Apple-branded phone too. Does Apple really wanna jump into that nasty market?
Hmm, maybe Palm for Linux isn't for a mobile device at all. What about a "Linux Powered" low end desktop with Palm as the desktop environment? Cheap apps, fast as all get out, and a ton of easy to use applications... Who cares if it is emulating the PalmOS? Even on a "low end" 700Mhz Celeron it would fly.
PT First, I dig your P'casts. Seriously. I agree with you on your rants (we need an "I Don't Shop Walmart" bumper sticker, and a "China World Tour 2005," because that train has long left the station). I agree with most of your product reviews and anecdotes, even when you're not actually the first.
But what I can't swing with is the music selections. Perhaps if you keep the stuff, you could limit the play time to a few seconds. I hate having to dig up the 'cast on my iPod and then fiddle with the dial until I get past the music. Just food for thought.
The Do Not Call list is sort of an urban legend. It really doesnt do much at all, but it doesnt hurt to sign up. And Dec 12th has absolutely no significance. I'm very surprised that Phillip mentioned it in the Podcast, that is unless I'm missing something about it, in which case I would really like to know.

I think purchasing City Of Heroes to support them against Marvel's suit may be a bad idea, depending on how much you are against DRM. As it is now, CoH when bought off the shelf and use it online gives you absolutley no rights to resell the game if you think it sucks or just get bored of it. Meaning you pay $50 for the game, go online and setup your character with the service, then your CD-key is bound to you and the game.
I'm with CoH on the Marvel thing, but totally opposed to any company selling (read that renting) games that you really never own.
*Note my rant has little to do with monthly fee to play the game, which I understand. I'm ranting about the $50 fee for the game, the game box should actually say you are paying a "setup fee" not actually purchasing a game.
You have 2-XL! That's my buddy--I've mentioned 2-XL in a past podcast, and again in a podcast I'm currenlty editing. I still have my old 2-XL, and every year I run my old cartridges through him to keep them fit.
Coolness, Phil.
