8COM Wireless just rolled out the Bluetooth Car CD/MP3 Player, a Bluetooth-enabled car CD player that pairs with
your cellphone and lets you use your car stereo system as a hands-free speakerphone. Supports both the HandsFree and
Headset Bluetooth profiles.
This is exactly what I've been waiting for, but when will the big manufacturers start releasing bluetooth enabled head units? Personally, I won't buy until Alpine releases one (I'm already invested in their XM tuner and external CD).
I am waiting for an Alpine one as well. I want iPod control from the head unit and Bluetooth as well. I'd take an AUX input on a head unit with Bluetooth though....
Old news...but my Acura MDX has built in bluetooth for hands free... and built in XM. Very seamless. One of the big reasons I got it over the VW Touareg.
I'm sorry if this question has been answered before, but is this basically the same idea that is put into cars that are already bluetooth enabled? Basically this is just a 'bluetooth enabeling kit' for your car? THanks for your help.
Actually the Bluetooth technology is built "in" to the unit. No external devices. It cost anywhere from $150 to $300 for a Bluetooth Car Kit for your radio. Now you have a high car radio with built in Bluetooth.
It's a pity that the product is not available (yet?)
First read about it in a Dutch PC mag., where it was advertised for 140 Euro, wenet to the manufacturer website but the product is not there. Clicking on the picture on the top of this page brings you to them....but again no success.
Anybody know when/if it will actually be released???
I read it in the same dutch ComputerTotaal! magazine. It seems to be old news because this entry started around mid december. Anyone know why 8Com doesn't have this product on their website any more?
It seems 8com doesn't sell this one. There are a few alternatives though: Medion MD42165; Majestic SCD-204MP3; Roadstar CD-804MPBT; Lenco CS-172BT. These are not the best brands since the cheaper brands implement new techniques first so the better brands can adopt them when proven ok.
I'll be waiting until the end of the year for Alpine to meet the challenge and release a similar bluetooth enabled headset. If that doesn't happen, then I'm tempted to go with their rivals new headunit - the Pioneer DEH-P70BT. Pioneers look great and have the features but have never really matched Alpine's clarity in music quality. Pity.
Pioneer has a Deck available in the UK
that is bluetooth enabled,
pairs with cellphones, can place calls
accept calls.... the works.

like others on this board i am waiting for an alpine bluetooth kit. i have an alpine with ipod connected to my vw... its great! a kit should be in the making although i don't know what's taking them so long... they already have a mobile hub option with Nokia that is obsolete. if anyone has any suggestions as to how to enable bluetooth please contact me @ czrborgia@yahoo.com i'd greatly appreciate it.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"

FINALLY! What the hell took so long. Alpine, where is my Bluetooth AINet unit!
Personally, I think it would be even cooler if it read DVD+R discs full of MP3s, but that's just me...
Give me a Bluetooth iPod and we're in business :)
Oh, if only it had satellite radio service as well!

doesn't the prius have this as well?
(touareg and MDX... creep. buy a prius!)
Looks like somebody is listening to sports radio, 950 kjr AM
I'm still waiting to see a car radio I can plug my USB drive in - right there in the front, and play all the mp3s on it.

So where's the microphone?
There should be more info on this product... Does it display ID3 Tag info? Is the remote control supplied mountable on the steering wheel?

Would be GREAT if it actually existed....
Besides MP3 capability the BlueTooth function would be the greatest selling point!!!

Yeah, I agree, pretty much a deal killer that it doesn't accept music via Bluetooth streamed from your phone.
