Automakers to develop WiFi on wheels
A group of automakers has won a grant from the German government to help develop a standard
for car-to-car data networking. The planned standard will essentially create a mobile Internet, allowing vehicles and
drivers to communicate with each other instantly. (There are already
ad hoc systems that allow sharing of data—especially
music—on the road, but they don't have this level of industry backing.) While the automakers, who include big names
Daimler Chrysler, BMW and Audi, envision the standard leading to a system for traffic, weather and other vital
information to be distributed efficiently to drivers, we know what's really going on. This is going to be the ultimate
system for inter-vehicle gaming and sending inflammatory IMs to the guy who just cut you off.

all they need to add is picto chat so i can show the guy wou cut me off whos number 1 with a friendly little im
wow, i just spelled 'who' wou.
i wish i knew how to type...
i was thinking about this a few months ago,
it would be great to be able to communicate with near by cars,
maybe tell someone their tire is wobbling a bit too much,
or say hi to that cute girl driving next to you : )
or maybe warn drivers behind yuo that theirs a cop hiding behind that bush! (dam cops)
would be great . . .
choose the saturn on your heads up display thats 2 cars to the left and 1 car back, or the bmw 1 car up and 1 to the side . . .
would be great . .
and imagine itunes rendezvous !
it was my idea first!
The chase scene in the movie Freejack comes to mind.
Now we can get spammed by every business we pass on the highway.
Yeah, IM while driving won't cause any more trafic accidents...
This is probably related to the networking system that the police and federal government wants in place to keep track of everything about your car like a history of vehicle speed, milage, gps location, airbag deployment, etc. Essentially constant surveillance while you are in your car. No thanks.
