Apple hits us with price cuts on their Cinema Displays
Yo Apple, your stuff is still a little overpriced, but this latest price cut on your Cinema Displays is rreeaall
sweet—they're trimming $300 off their 20 and 30-inch displays, and $200 off their 23-inch (making the prices $999,
$2,999, and $1,799, respectively). That 20-inch price point is very sweet though; we're kind of wondering if this
doesn't have anything to do with the headless horseman
budget Mac we've been hearing about, but we're not
jumping to any conclusions. Except maybe that you're getting a little itchy to get rid of your stock on these things,
but we'll be happier to oblige now more than ever.

price of quality
I'm sure when the same material and capability of screen will be available for the less cost, apple products will be cheaper
for the moment, the apple display is not simply a plastic case with tiny pixels
the color, luminosity, contrast and design are good. a nice and reliable screen.
Apple is not more overpriced than other companies with similar (quality) products. apple is not the only one company doing high quality products.
This one hurts. I just bought an Apple display a couple months ago. Darn,
Hell, I'll use that as a LCD TV. DVI that sucker right into my hd cable box and I'm good to go.
Its easy to find 20" displays for less than $999, but they tend overwhelmingly to not be widescreen and not be very good!$999 seems like quite a competitive price for a good quality product.
I do love the apple displays, but for the money I really dig my Olevia 30 inch 1280x768, 16ms with DVI screen. Bought it for $999 after rebate.

your 30 inch screen may be way cheaper than apple's 30 inch, but apple's 30 inch has at least twice the 1024x768 resolution that your 30 inch display has. it has such a high resolution it needs a dual link DVI connection which is basically two DVI connectors put together into one. people like image editors and especially video editors don't need a bigger screen for the sake of having a big beautiful display, but they need more screen real estate to do their work. final cut pro is barely useable on 1024x768 cause the window is so big
I got one of those Dell widescreen monitors that uses the same panel as the Apple 20inch, but it only cost me $634 including shipping and tax.
Granted, it's not in a shiny shiny aluminum case, but I'll get over it.
michel: both HP and Sony use the exact same LCD panel in their 23" products that are much cheaper. Apple is only now matching it.
Austin, where did you get the deal for that 30 inch panel?
Unfortunately only people with expensive videocards in their G5 can use the 30 inch display, the resolution is too high for regular cards to handle.
I also have the Dell Widescreen LCD. Why would anyone willingly want to pay $200-300 more for the same display just to have an Apple logo on it?
