Sanyo @ CES - Phone pr0n II, The Talby
The Infobar was one of the most heralded phones in Japan and helped convince a lot of subscribers to switch to KDDI.
The follow up, the Talby, is the Infobar re-imagined by
designer Mark Newson. Not only is it beautiful but it's powerful too; designed for KDDI's 1x RTT network, the phone has
the Opera web browser with a Flash Lite player, a 240 x 320 (QVGA) LCD, and a 1.3 MP camera with macro mode for
snapping barcodes.
Although we didn't get to play with it that much since the interface is only in Japanese, we can tell you after
holding this phone, all you can say to yourself is "Why? Why can't any American phones look and feel half this good?"
Once you pick it up, you don't want to put it down—EVAR.
Click on for more pictures—and believe us, no matter how many we took we still wanted to keep snapping this
thing.

Is it just me or is this thing kinda ugly. Like the thinness though:)
ichan @ Dec 19th 2005 2:41AM

ive long admired this phone since it was posted here last year. it is exactly what i would like an iPhone to look like.... Come on Apple!
Devin Chalmers @ Dec 19th 2005 2:41AM
Exactly what I was thinking, Mr. Green. This would make a fantastic iPhone. I am getting all drooly just looking at it. Too bad they seem to be in bed with underwhelming Moto.
SPeedY_B @ Dec 19th 2005 2:41AM
I want it. I want it now! :D
gerbick @ Dec 19th 2005 2:41AM
I almost hate seeing the phones I'll never be able to purchase.
Suntiger @ Dec 19th 2005 2:41AM
Woohoo, a phone without a camera! All hail the maker! Now if only the buttons were translucent with color-selectable LEDs underneath, the coolness factor would increase by 10.
Celina @ Dec 19th 2005 2:41AM
The simplicity of this phone is what makes it so sexy. I'm one who prefers the buttons it already sports. Don't make it complicated.
Sean @ Dec 19th 2005 2:41AM
They also have an orange button version of this phone if I remember right.
Jace @ Dec 19th 2005 2:41AM

God... this phone is awesome! Too bad there's absolutely no chance any of us Yanks will ever see one.

For anybody in London, the Design Museum is currently running a Mark Newson exhibition which includes the Talby phone! Unfortunately it's locked in a cabinet, but I was still rather taken with when I saw it last month.

Does anyone know if there is a cell phone as sleek and nice as this available in the U.S.? I know i've seen one before, but I just cant seem to put my finger on who makes it or what its called!
Kitty Kitty @ Dec 19th 2005 2:41AM
(Why? Why cant any American phones look and feel half this good? Once you pick it up, you dont want to put it downEVAR.) Why can't our phones look this good? Sprint I am willing to sign a 5 year contract if you bring this phone out. I promise never to leave if this was my phone. I am so embarased by my american phone. :( Good Grief it is a CDMA phone. How hard would it be to bring it out. I want to be a Super Gal.

i've been waiting for this phone since I read it was a prototype.
i haven't bought a new cell phone since then, hoping that it would make it to america, or at least something similar.
now i'm ready to move to japan if i have to.
I'm madly in love with this phone, and it hurst.
Albert @ Dec 19th 2005 2:41AM
I own that phone. I've been studying abroad in Japan for a year now I decided to pick that one up in December when I switched to KDDI. It's an amazing phone and it has GPS on it which is one of the main reasons I bought it. It's unbelievably thin as well. I still get comments to this day by Japanese friends on how cool the phone is... too bad I'm going back America in June. I'm gonna miss using this phone everyday.....
