Epson 1080p 3LCD rear projection TV
Epson displayed a prototype for a 1080p 3LCD rear projection TV at CES, which of course we had to check out at their
booth. The TV won't be out until fall of 2005 at the earliest, but Epson claims that using 3LCD gets you darker
black levels and more accurate colors than you'd get with a regular digital light projection display (peep the
comparison picture above, which pits DLP on the left against 3LCD on the right).

I hate comparisons like this. Look at the lower right of both screens. The right one actually has darker blacks and the same reds. The left one has hardly any black. Ahh...the magic of misdirection and lies.

Whaa...check out the one on the right...why do the reds get lighter as they go up? Stupid.

Is it just me or does the DLP still look better.. Maybe it's just the picture, wish I could see the side by side a bit larger or in real life..

Right... I guess it's really time for those bionic devices to kick in so I can figure out which is best.

yea, not really a huge difference, but I am sure a huge price difference

the reds in the top tomatos on the right definately look more like a real tomato color

I got to see these in person last week at the show. At least in the Epson booth, the 3LCD displays were much, much better than the DLP units they were being compared to. The picture here isn't doing it justice. More here:

My comment is a bit late, but I was at the CES show and Tom's right; Epson was worlds better than DLP. A photo of the difference doesn't mean much; too easy to doctor. You have to see it in person. When I saw the Epson display at CES I wondered if they had crippled the DLP in some way; the DLPs sucked next to the Epson panels. You have to see the comparison in person.
