The Motorola MPx goes on sale... in Brunei
We also have some good and some bad news. The good news is that the
Motorola's MPx Pocket PC Phone, which it's fair to say
we've been keeping an eye on ever since we first learned about it nearly a year ago, has finally hit stores. The bad
news, which is especially bad for anyone who couldn't be bothered to read to the end of our headline for this post, is
that according to a tipster living there, those stores are in Brunei. We just checked Orbitz for flights, and the
cheapest one we could find to Brunei was $1,832 on Northwest. Moto still hasn't said when the MPx might make an
appearance in this hemisphere, but we can probably wait this one out.
[Thanks, SoulJah]

Waiting this one out? I know I will be.
Waiting until the MPx II arrives that is, whenever that will be.
This phone is a great concept, but this first attempt by Motorola is a disaster. They have SO many things to correct/improve on it.
Its been out here in Malaysia for about a week or so and its priced at RM2999,which after conversion to USD works out to be around USD790.thats the retail price, but if you shop around and go to the streets you can get a better street price.
Brunei last I checked was in the same hemisphere from which Peter Roger posted this report! Here is the map and the wikipedia reference. Of cous my apologies if Peter posts from Australia, South America or some other island.

If you dont believe the government of Brunei, the CIA also says the same thing here

First off, my name is "Peter Rojas", not "Peter Roger".
Second, unless something drastic has happened, Brunei is not in the Western Hemisphere.
I couldn't wait for this one any longer...got the treo instead. Plus, when I say it at the dgital life conv, I noticed that it's pretty damn big considering it's a flip phone! And I think the screen is even slightly smaller than the treo..and the specs said it had less memory, so I couldn't bare to wait for it when the only thing the treo was missing was Wi-Fi. Still, it's a pretty nifty phone.
LMAO!
Great,
Is there somebody on this world that can
confirm the size of RAM memory.
Unbelievebal the phone is for sale and nobody
knows the RAM size, crazy.
Ciao
Splitting hemispheres along the equator or the meridian means you coul both be right.

I'm in brunei and the phone currently has run out of stock immediately when it arrived in the shops. The price is around US$783.
FYI brunei is somewhere near the equator.
Installed RAM-- 32 MB
which is kind of small!!!!!
Scuse me but MPx is already available in Malaysia.
Mostly sold in PDA outlets and selected handphone retailers.
Warranty is by Motorola malaysia so its not the engineering or pre production model.
Package includes 128mb SD card
cheers
I got the Motorola MPx - been using it for over 3 weeks now. Verdict: it sucks!! Gimme my money back....
The miserable lack of RAM 24MB is causing all kinds of problems, even before additional software is loaded. I used a XDA2 before with tons of RAM in comparison, wanted to switch to XDA2s, but the whole market is out of it - couldn't wait for it..
Somehow the MPx could even handle SKPE... incompatible for some reason. Only managed to load BibleReader (www.olivetree.com) and eWallet (Illium Software), but due to the limited RAM, had to send everything to the SD card (lucky I got a good deal on the 1GB SD). With my database of nearly 900 names, the MPx started doing crazy things like freezing, hang & even once needed me to remove the battery which ZAPS everything.
So far, have to reload back from my PC nearly 3 times... ActiveSync 3.8 helps speed things up, but the MPx still performs miserably.
Some days, it cannot even add names to SPEED DIAL without hanging. The Speech Recognition is unusable.. probably due to the low RAM. And things get really wierd when u swap landscape and potrait mode...
Only thing that works well is the keyboard and WiFi and bluetooth. Keyboard also bit quirky when you try to type in potrait mode.
If any Motorola people reading this... do something please... maybe give money back!!
No problems on my MPx. I have loaded e-Wallet, Mapopolis 3.0 with several 3 malaysian city maps, memaker, isilo reader with a couple of ebooks. I believe the trick is to load applications whenever possible on the SD card. My unit came with 128mb as part of the package. Yes it has crashed more then once, but with memaker set at IE and Avantgo files stored on the SD, its stable.
PS Have a mate who owns a HP6350 phone crashed on the third day of usage. So whats new.
My only complaint is the nightly charging of the unit since the battery only lasts for a day as compared with my previous PPC phone - Anextek SP230.

This is absolutely the worst gadget to ever hit the market. A terrible waste of money. Totally unusable. It's shocking that Motorola would put something so buggy out on the market. This doesn't even qialify as a beta version! Nice to have as a gadget, but if you plan to use it as your only mobile phone, forget it. Totally unreliable. Hangs on a daily basis, and behaves inconsistently, not to metntion the terrible design flows which you only discover after using it for a couple of days, by the end of which, you just want to throw the damn thing against the wall and smash it to pieces!!! DON'T BUY IT NO MATTER HOW TEMPTED YOU ARE.
I just got the MPX. i live in canada. i actually got it from the states. the price was not cheap i had to pay with taxes and shipment around 1800 CAD. i agree with every thing Tigie said. I love the phone. I just love it. I think it is the best phone i got so far. And mind you i am crazy about phones. Just to give you an idea. I have the MPX200 and the MPX 220 and i did not sell any of them. But i totally agree with Tigie. The only drag is that the phone needs a way more RAM. It freezes and it pisses me off so much. i have to reset and sometime i just have to remove the battery and that will loose everythign. i am thinking of calling Motorola and see what they can do for me. At least they can take this one and ship me a new version of more RAMs. i dont understand how a company like Motorola that is looking forward to increase its profit and market share, would release such an embarasment. I think this is a total betrayal to the consumer. They are fooling us. You go ahead and pay the money, you get the phone and it simply is not working at a decent speed. I am not asking for a speedy rocket processor. but at least not to freeze on me and to ask me to close some applications. I am really frustrated and i will contact motorola as soon as possible.
hello..im new to windows pocket phones..
i have 1 question...
since the mpx is so low in ram..cause i not use the ram..instead installing all phonebooks, progreams , EVERYTHING onto my sd card..leavin all the ram to the processor ?? will this make the phone less buggy and less hang ??
This is the worst phone to hit the market. I have had the V600 (best), RAZR (garbage) and the MPx220 all in the last year. The phones got worse as I moved on. I have been sorely dissappointed with the MPx with it's navigation, freezing during important business calls and over-all bugginess. Until I came to this site, I didn't know how to conduct the manual reset and was held hostage for a month with a possessed telephone which did whatever it wanted to do! DO NOT GET THIS PHONE!!!
