Brute-forcing unreleased GTA San Andreas cheat codes

So this dude edisoncarter cracked open what appears to be a cheesy 3rd party PS2 controller (save the good stuff for
the gaming, we always say), hooked up the lines to a parallel port for signal injection, and then hash-cracker style
used a custom app that ran brute force key combinations until he came up with a slew of unreleased cheat codes for GTA
San Andreas. Damn, dude. Remember when you were really young and you thought that cheat codes were discovered by this
really awesome unknown kid who just sat there pushing buttons for hours a day until he figured them all out for
everyone else? And then trying to discover your own cheat codes, but never being able to? You humble us,
edisoncarter.

The last paragraph gives the impression that he's still going through all the possible combinations. I wonder how he knows when he gets a hit on one? Can the system detect it and stop, or does he have to watch after every codepress?
i was just wondering the same thing
it'd be very hard to notice a change and figure out which combination out of millions that are possible made that change.

I was thinking that if the game made a sound when a cheat was successfully entered, you could keep a constant recording of the process and then look up the code(s) entered at times that correspond to success sounds. Obviously this is less than elegant, but neither is wiring a playstation controller to a parallel port.
well he did create the app, so he probably has some sort of correct/incorrect key recorder or something. i mean he come up with all that stuff, you would think he would have some way to record the correct keys

Now just make a program that enters the specialty moves in say mortal combat, add a touch pad, instant godlike action.
The game does make a distinct sound confirming a code has been entered.
I can tell you all how he manages to isolate a code. Whenever a cheat code is executed in any GTA game, a small 'beep' is heard along with a visual confirmation of a cheat entered.
Edison has a sound recorder set up and can isolate the exact time that a code was properly entered and then can look in his homemade program for the corresponding time. He doesn't even have to be there for it to be working!

Hmm, I bet If I loaded the ps2 game disk to my comp and then backd it up in word format I could find some code info in it eventually...
