iPod shuffle + sunglasses = DIY Oakley Thump
C'mon, you really didn't think we were gonna shell out four hundred bucks for the Oakley Thump, did you?

hahaha... that looks ridiculous.
geek factor 10
ah so, very clever but still er, silly looking. Here's a low tech suggestion (is that allowed?), how about using some Velcro to stick it to whatever you need to (shirt, helmut, handle bars, etc) instead of the silly sun glasses. Or at least get some of that "instant hair in a spray can" that marketed to bald people and spray it the same color as your hair. I do think that the whole thing is very amusing so good work to you.
When you're jogging, just make sure you're careful on those right-hand turns. *8-)
That is insanely great. Those Oakleys are butt-ugly, at least with this 'solution' you can pick whatever sunglasses you think are teh kewlest.
I could see more likely it stuck under the edge of a stocking cap on the mountain or velcro'd inside if your jacket sleeve. Too bad the hardware doesn't allow for a remote control on the headphone cable like it's bigger brothers.
Johnny Depp has amazing fashion sense!
Is that Johnny Depp modelling the shades?
You beat me to it by 1 minute. ;)
wow, great imagination you got there Sebhelyesfarku
i like all the ghetto hardware engadget comes up with
My idea is to stick it in the knot of the bandanna I wear when I run. We'll see how it works. The Oakleys look cool but I'm somewhat worried about the flip-up lenses becoming flappy over time. Maybe they'll come out with an X-metal version with solid lenses. I mean, who's gonna use them with flipped-up lenses as an MP3 player?
You could also take one of those sunglasses with a very thick frame, saw off one of the arms and replace it with the iPod. Nerd extraordinaire.
hahah that's hilarious. you should glue the headphone earpieces to the sunglass frames and run the wires neatly across the top of the lenses from one side to the other. integrating the 'phones will give the full "Thump" effect.
Also, Sebhelyesfarku sucks it.

This has the added benefit of looking 10x better than the entire Oakley catalog! So sexay.
That is a super awesome fake serious pose. Coupled with the glasses selection, I give this post an A+. I spit my drink on the monitor. You got me. Good one!
Michael Stipe with hair again!!??
Lookin' sharp there Phil!
That is just so funny guys. Well done with another "COOL" invention and good use of the imagination.
Excuse me, but hadn't you better be returning those glasses to the church lost and found bin?
Great imagination,very impressive.
Hey,get your Copyright Right now.
Sebhelyesfarku, So thats why they didn't bother with a screen!
Finally proof that when you're cool, the sun shines ALL the time!
That's awesome. You need to be cool enough to pull this off though - like the guy in the pic.
P.S. Sebhelyesfarku sent me a pic of his #9 idea, but I decided not to post it here.
Why not just double stick tape it to the forehead?
Seriously, when does the vibrator add-on happen for the Shuffle? Griffin???
I want to buy a sidekick2 but i need to know if it supports GPRS network or only GSM or both
Haha great idea... only one thing missing.
AN ENGADGET PODCAST!!! :(
If the Oakley Thump had been done in collaboration with Apple, those things would have come out with a GB of storage and support for Audible books.
Then I would have bought a pair.
Oh well.
Kap
This might be unfair and offensive, but does Oakley's customer base listen to audio books while acting all X-treme(!!!) and stuff?
"Shreddin' it up to Jane Austin, good sir?"
"Why yes, yes I am."
"Lovely"
If they had done the Oakleigh thump in collaboration with Apple, then you would have to buy the lenses seperately.
I would assume they need to listen to things like "x-treme sports for dummies" jjvw
I reposted this in my LiveJournal because I thought the idea was great and my LJ readers (i.e. my friends) know I'm an Apple fan. One person replied this: "Ever notice how apple doesn't even sell a product any more? They sell cool, and people are willing to pay a fortune for it."
I sent back a kind of long reply (at least for LJ): I don't know where you were in 2001, when the original iPod came out, which I still have and use. At the time, no one cared about the iPod because it cost $399 for 5 GB. It wasn't cool to have one, and no one knew what it was. I had to explain what my white and silver box did. Apple didn't actually realize that they could sell cool until way later when celebrities started having them and the iPod kept getting better. You must also be aware of Apple's long term and historical pricing strategies. Additionally, I don't think that $99 is a fortune, especially when you compare the iPod shuffle to other flash memory players with the same amount of memory.
There are two more paragraphs.

Damn fine glasses! But how does one shuffle?
...to the left ...to the right!
You don't shuffle. You strut!
that is johnny depp modeling the sunglasses right id recognize his hottness anyday.those sun glasses he is wearing are really cool i want a pair!!!lol
People are vicious. The guy may not look fabulous wearing the glasses. But the product should get the review not the guy. The product has not got good reviews either. Sound is not loud enough and glasses are way to expensive. I'd not wear those glasses. Rather I'd have $99 ipod and make some money for Apple.
