The MTV Player
Not sure if the good people at MTV know about this, but Zhejiang Huahong Optronics Group, a small manufacturer in
China, has decided to branch out a bit from optronics with the MTV Player, a new portable video player with 2GB of
flash memory and a 2-inch LCD screen. (Though if Viacom has anything at all to do with this, we're going to have to
insist that Zhejiang Huahong Optronics Group do it up right and bust out a VH1 Classic Player). Anyway, except for the
part about possibly violating some trademarks and getting into some legal hot water (an issue Chinese manufacturers
only occasionally concern themselves with), hitching a ride on someone's brand probably wasn't such a bad idea. Apart
from having the word "MTV" in its name, we can't think of any other reason why the AP reporter who saw this at this
week's Midem music conference would decided to focus on this one particular device given the dozens of other obscure,
no-name personal video players that are around these days.
[Thanks, Tom, Bri, and Dave]

"And this is what you get when you put your 3COM Audrey in the wash at too high a temperature"
Sometimes in Asia, music videos are known as MTVs. Maybe that is what they meant by "MTV player" - analogous to "mp3 player"?
it's not licensed, it's playing a samsung commercial... bleh..
It only plays Samsung commercials?
THIS is what the iPod flash player should have been. Instead we got the shitty Shuffle.
here here
the shuffle absolutely sucks
Man can't we get through one music player post without the mention of the shuffle. Either its people comparing it or saying how the shuffle sucks.
Wow, that thing's tiny! I suppose nobody noticed that it's a complete 2GB video player that fits in the palm of your hand??? That thing's awesome! I wonder if it will be available at a low price? No mention of price. Does it support Divx? Xvid? Did anyone bother to actually learn anything about this player? I suppose that would actually involve some form of Journalism...
I can confirm that in Asia, people do call "music videos" "MTVs".
well where i get my music videos/mtvs is a chinese site and they all them mvs...
music/video player in china actually aint that cheap, but u can always get the funtions or style u want
MaxSmoke,
A complete 2GB video player that fits in the palm of your hand is not a big deal. The Archos Gmini 400 is just as small and has a 20GB drive.
The AP journalist who wrote the story did not include any more details about what codecs it supports.
in china they call music Videos "MTVs"
I don't think the company is violating trademark on purpose.
Isn't the man holding the device Japanese?
MTV player is MP3 based viewer and it should show a video right? Does your MTV player supports SD memory or not? Also, I need to know what is the price (or the price range).
Thanks!
