Overclock your Mac mini to as much as 1.58GHz
So you're feeling lucky with that new Mac mini of yours,
are you? But lucky enough to pop off a couple soldered jumpers on the motherboard in order to get an extra couple
hundred MHz out of the thing? Oh really? And what if the chip doesn't take the overclock, and runs unstable, as they
often do? (You might not know this,
but overclocking is more of a PC thing.)
Well, step right up then, Mac mini enthusiasts have sorted out how to get 1.5 and 1.58GHz out of your cute little new
box—whether it wants to or not. We can't wait for the water
cooling mods.

I might do this, then cut a whole in the top for one of those 8000 rpm fans. I might have to wear ear defenders each time I use it, but for a 2% increase in speed it'll definitely be worth it!
Cool! Afterall Photoshop-CS and DOOM3 will benefit greatly!
=O
What is that on top of your thumbnail? Is that the board crumbling from the overclocking heat?
Those are the resistors that have been removed from the board.
Those are jumpers on his thumbnail.
When it stops working (or is to unstable) can you send the whole thing over to me? I will pay for the shipping.
Like I always say "If you don't A-S-K you won't G-E-T"
Great Scott! How can be lucky if the person didn't damage the delight motherboard? : )
Come on people, that is a 11.3% overclock people, that is pretty good
Back in the day I did that to my TI Powerbook 400Mhz... Got it to run to 500Mhz.
that's a 13.6% jump from 1.25GHz to 1.42GHz or an equivalent of $50 (the price difference of the 1.25GHz and 1.42GHz, if you equalize the hard drive)
I don't agree that overclocking is a "PC thing".
Overclocking on the Macs started a very long time ago and was quite popular on the 68K machines...
yes it definitely worthed. I just chipped all my minis (3 of em) and it runs stably at 1.42GHz. along I changed the memory to 512. Now it sweeets. I even offer mac community to OC professionally, since the price of stock 1.42GHz from Apple is way too expensive here in Indonesia.
