The dirt on the Motorola E1060
Alright, that press conference is over and all the official dirt is out on the new Motorola phones. Here's the scoop on the E1060. It's a quad-band 3G cellphone that's compatible with both WCDMA and GSM networks, and features a 2-inch, 240x320, 262,000 color LCD screen, a VGA camera for making video phone calls, a 1.3 megapixel camera for taking still pics, a TransFlash memory card slot, and multimedia software for playing back and streaming MPEG4, WMV, WMA, MP3, AAC+, and Real audio and video files. Oddly enough, despite that Reuters story from earlier today, there's no mention of whether the phone has iTunes installed on it (though is that a scroll wheel we see?). Whether it has iTunes on it or not, the E1060 isn't due out until Q4.

Not sure about the green, or much of the design for that matter. I imagine with a Q4 release it'll have iTunes on it, maybe there will be some special features in Tiger that take extra advantage of the partnership?

aaahhhhhhrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhh
drooling to be had
Gimme! Now!
that is one fugly phone
#ew
eh
that is one of the worst looking things ive ever seen
looks like a squashed XBox. i doubt Apple would allow this to have iTunes on it. seriously.
Hay, at least it has a 10-key style keypad -- unlike my Nokia 3650!
So when did Motorola decide to stop making nice looking phones? Every one of today's newly announced models looks like a five year old Nokia with some frilly bits tacked on disguised as "trim" (in this case, green trim).
too bad it's motorola partnering with apple. moto phones suck.
I've seen ads for this model on Sky One in the UK. Nothing about iTunes, but just showcases the video playback and 3G capability.
The picture may not do the phone justice, but from this first image the phone looks pretty ugly.
If this is the best Motorola can do for iTunes phone, it's pretty sad. If I were Jobs, I would be looking to forge partnerships with other cell phone vendors.
GSM offers high speed internet like 3G? My home town in Wyoming don't have 3G? I am confused. My dream will come true if my PowerBook G4 will travel on internet anywhere I can go to lake, mountain, and more.
James:
3G is possible on GSM networks, but that doesn't mean all GSM networks have or in the near future will offer 3G.
(Interestingly enough, all 3G, even on GSM networks, is built on the foundation of CDMA, as that technology allows for higher data capacity.)
From what I understand, Cingular will start to roll out their 3G service this year, but I would expect it to hit the larger cities and states first.
Unfortunately, Wyoming, given its size, will probably have lower priority in establishing that type of service.
Of course, Verizon and its CDMA network are already rolling out 3G service, but again in the larger markets.
iPodLounge says it uses iTunes as the default music player on te phone, but still supports Real. Wonder how that went down when Apple and Real found out they are working together in the music biz.
i was hoping for a flip phone with a full iPod scroll wheel on the front, with an 8 line LCD, and then opens up to be a regular MOTO phone, with at least 512mb flash memory and bluetooth 2.0 to wirelessly sync with my Powerbook G4, and the titanium color to match for $500 pre-discounts, but, i guess i was dreaming. Instead, Im stuck with what looks like an XBox-themed ugly machine, so I may get a phone sooner rather than wait for this thing
That phone is definitely love it, or hate it. Personally, I think it looks great! :)
ugly!
not worthy of apple... i wouldnt be caught playing my aacs on that thing... blech!
my opinion is when they say that apple and motorola will be in simultaneus hardwork it means that processors from both companys are and slowdown cash...plus designers and software don´t compete with themselves, this phone only shows that both companys work to their sides...the last news about iphone are a lie, where is the real THING!
