Sanyo's WiPOQ handheld messenger
Is Sanyo planning an Ogo of its own?
IXI Mobile, the company that created the technology used in Cingular/AT&T Wireless's Ogo handheld messaging device,
just announced that Sanyo is licensing their operating system for a new line of mobile gadgets dubbed WiPOQ (yeah, HP
might not be too thrilled). Nothing juicy like pics or any of that, but the first device is supposed to be an Ogo-like
"multimedia messenger" with a built-in Java browser, large LCD screen, and a QWERTY keyboard.
(Pictured at right is one of IXI's reference designs.)

The OGO still remains one of the most ill conceived products in modern history.
Built like an ugly German tank, rushed to market with a cap over the headphone jack, incapable of being rigged to make a phone call, pushed (weakly) on teenage girls that can't afford another monthly wireless bill nor fit it's girth into their skin tight jeans and launched just as AT&T Wireless was getting sucked into the Baby Bells, this disaster doesn't bode well for IXI or Sanyo.
Here's hoping that someone figures out that when you try to knock of the Danger Hiptop/Sidekick, you need to bring your 'A' game. Kids aren't stupid (or rich.)

I'll be the first to admit that the OGO isn't perfect. What it IS good for is using at work when the company has locked down instant messaging programs because of virus concerns. Oh yeah, and the Bluetooth connection to get internet access on my laptop ANYWHERE is nice too.

Why do companies insist with being stupid? HP is definitely not going to be happy. I don't think anybody has used the name POS as in Piece Of Shit which is really what their products are.
