The Pocket Rocket USB flash drive
Unless they're supersmall or have some sort of novelty value, there's usually not a whole lot to distinguish one USB flash drive from another these days, but Memina's just come out with The Pocket Rocket, a new line of high-capacity flash drives with a read speed of 18MB/s and superfast write speed of 15MB/s. It's not totally uncommon to see a flash drive with a faster read speed, but you hardly ever see one with a write speed that high, and when you're filling up a 1GB drive, that extra speed does make a difference. Comes in 512MB, 1GB, and 2GB versions, all of which come with a gold USB connectors and an attached rotating cap that you won't be able to lose. If 2GB isn't doing it for ya, there's also a 4GB model due out sometime around the middle of the year.

no one even commented on the name! ;0
I love the rotating cap.
All manufacturers should make non-lose-able caps.
@darx: LOL. Probably because most of the writers at Engadget are male. :D
I give you...the pocket rocket:

Men should still know what the ladies are doing;)
A google didn't turn up anything about Memina... anyone ever heard of them before? I wish they had product pics of the keychain and lanyard... does it replace the cap? How does it affix to the body of the drive and what is the body of the drive made from? It looks matallic.. but that's pretty common for alot of plasitc bodied usb thumb drives.
Anyone know anything else about these guys?
Yeah... they probably should have picked a better name.
"Hey Jim, do we need a place to save the presentation?"
"Nah, We'll just use my Pocket Rocket, Fred."
"Uhhh.... what?"
I've got something in my front pocket for you...
Is that a bottle opener on top?
I predict in just a few years, anybody will be able to sell generic computers and electronic gadgets online, branded with their own name brand. Kind of like the way CafePress works. You pick your own color scheme, and upload your own graphics and logo, and then visitors to your site can click a link to order an MP3 player that is branded to order with your site's logo, then shipped from a Chinese factory to the customer, and the site owner gets a commission at the end of the quarter.
Would anybody here buy an Engadget-brand MP3 Player? Slashdot? Goatse?
this thing looks really cool. i recently lost the cap on my drive, and the usb connector is getting quite dirty - i'm worried about data loss. the speeds on this one look blazing, which is probably good for larger files.
Not quite the breakthrough. USB drives at this speed have been available for some time now. Apacer has been selling the 'Steno HT203' that reads / writes at 20MB/s and 14MB/s for at least six months now. (Not to mention looking much cooler.) Google will show them for sale all over the place. I have one myself it's just amazing how fast it is.
