Paris Hilton's hacked Sidekick releases unedited tell-all
Dude, could someone buy Paris Hilton an
OGO or a
Treo already? She had that
Sidekick
hacked once, and whether or not it's happened a second
time, someone's finally pulled the data and posted it all up online. They managed to dig up dirty camphone shots (right
alongside shots of her holding a baby and hanging out with kids—oh, Paris), her notebook, and her address book, which
has had such high-brow, mover-and-shaker entries as: Christina Aguilera, Devo Aoki, Fred Durst, Jermaine Dupri, Vicki
Gotti, Stephen King, David Lachappelle, Avril Lavigne, Lindsay Lohan, Bijou Phillips, Ashlee Simpson, Twiggy, Usher,
and Vin Diesel. (We have a feeling she might not be getting some of those digits again once they've changed.) Anyone
care to guess which ones she hasn't done a tape with?
P.S. Nudity warning on link! Cover your eyes (but maybe peek just a little)!

Hacking the t-mobile site is unneeded if you have the phone. One just needs to go to the web site, type in mobile number, click on "lost password" and they'll sms a new password directly to the mobile.

This hack makes me think about the desperate actions celebs (and others) have been forced to take to ensure small facets of their lives remain private. A constant invasion like this in no small way led to the death of Princess Diana. This is not really on topic, but I have long been of the opinion that half of all money made from any media exploitation is owed to the subject involved, be it celeb, or just an average joe on the evening news (unless the subject has committed a crime.) A celeb, for example, could give the extra money to a favorite charity and have comfort knowing that every paparazzi photo is benefiting causes they care about. (Or it could just go to their bank account). Of course this may be impossible to implement, but it sure would help take the sting off the invasion. So pay up engadget; you owe all these victims half the Vonage Ad money I see on this page! P.S. I also peeked at the pictures!

I hope Paris Hilton disappears soon. Who cares if her shit got hacked, no one is going to stalk her and abduct her. She has a personal security force around her at all times. Don't bitch about privacy invasion, thats the price you pay for being famous and making millions of dollars. I would trade places with her in a second.

I feel sorry for Paris Hilton and celeb friends, but I'm glad this has happened. It usually takes something bad like this to happen before people wake up to a serious problem like a privacy not being guaranteed.
That's why I don't mind engadget calling attention to this. If it raises awareness of how unsecure our personal data is, that is good. Maybe the phone companies and everyone else will finally have to do something about it.

"please remember that secretly recording phone calls is a federal offense unless you get permission from the FBI or something"
Really? Here in Canada, as long as one party in the phone call is aware that its being recorded, it's legal. So I could call you and record it legally, as I am one of the two parties taking part in the conversation. I'm pretty sure it's the same in the US, as media outlets often play phone calls on the air, some of which are less than flattering to the subject. Correct me if I'm wrong though."
Actually, you are wrong about Canadian law. What you have said used to be the way it was (one-party consent), but the Supreme Court has issued decisions now requiring two-party consent, unless you have a warrant. This changed a few years ago.

If it's still taking your registrar 48 hours to register domains, then you should consider finding a new one! My registrar http://www.coolness.com/ registers them instantly. (usually within 2 minutes!)
Here's a blog entry I made about it on my domain name blog. http://blog.coolness.com/2004/11/icann-domain-transfer-policy-takes.html
Regarding Paris Hilton's Privacy....
Yeah, it's wrong. She deserves privacy, but it's human nature to want to see into her private life. We're all in this thread looking for more nude pictures of Paris! (Like we haven't seen her nude already)

Hmm... are you certain? Then why would tape recordings (such as those in the high profile Jonathan case here in Canada) be permissible with the consent of only one party? Or radio shows making morning prank calls(which is quite common)? I must say, things certainly could have changed it, as it has been a number of years since I studied media law.

a couple opinions worth exploring:
u think they actually care if their number gets out? they're celebrities it's publicity. at worst they get a phone call or the security they pay so much for will get some work.
furthermore if they that uptight to let that shitt stress them then f-it they prolly need the r-life experience anyway. a fairy tale witha twist heh

This is not a hoax. I've called a bunch of places, and called InterNIC and found out that the registeration of PARIS-HACKED.COM was from earlier today. I've been following up on this all and it's sooo legit it's scary. Just goes to show you how unsafe the net can be. In any case, I have some more breaking news to shoot up in like 5 minutes.

so im kinda guessing the next turn for this story will be paris' actual emails. I almost feel sorry for that worthless, (almost) useless cnut and def her famous friends..although i think she just puts talented people in her phone after meeting them once because of low self esteem. (fiona apple, etc). I guess now celebs know what its like to be disgusted by her too whether or not she is at fault. in any case, this story (if real) will be with us for a while once other outlets follow engadget's lead (props to them). If anything good comes from this it will be the tmobile ad spoofs on SNL, etc.

Re: #66
You are, in short, a dumbass.
Listen to yourself:
T-Mobile was just recently hacked, revealing all of the customer information and account passwords for all of its users, and instead of admitting that this is probably a result of that hack, you think that Paris Hilton secured hundreds of phone numbers, some operated by different carriers, with fake voicemail full recordings OR genuine recordings with celebrity voices, AND - on top of that - got some of her friends to agree to *answer their phones*. On top of which, Paris isn't getting any money from the sites selling that tape, unless, of course, you're stupid enough to believe that it's Paris herself behind those sites (and, no doubt, you probably are that stupid).
Instead of the, you know, SIMPLEST explanation, which is that PARIS WAS ONE OF THE CUSTOMERS HACKED BY THE UNPRECEDENTED T-MOBILE HACK: http://www.securityfocus.com/news/10271 http://www.theregister.com/2005/02/16/t_mobile_hacker_guilty/
But hey, believe what you want.
Mark @ Dec 19th 2005 1:04AM
All I have to say about all of this is thank god I'm not a T-Mobile user, nor do I own any of their stock. (Will their stock go into the shitter come Tuesday, after the President's Day holiday?) Paris will look bad to her celebrity peers, but T-Mobile comes off of this looking worse.
das @ Dec 19th 2005 1:04AM
Re: #78
Yes, this will probably give it publicity, but the T-Mobile hack is OLD NEWS. The guy who pulled it off has already even pled guilty:

I'm pretty sure the phone numbers are real because the area code 310 is Beverly Hill, and West LA. Most people knows that Beverly Hill is full of rich people. But that's not the point.
There are penty of people here that saids some phone numbers work. And there are plenty of people who dissagree. Just try calling the numbers (at least 10) and see the result. I'm sure that most of them changed their phone number by now, so some might not work. But do this at your own risk, you do not want to mess with expensive lawyers. I haven't tried and I don't think I will but if you try that your problem don't blame stuff on me because you took this advice
Ed @ Dec 19th 2005 1:04AM
It's real ladies and gentlemen. Although alot of numbers are being disconnected or the inboxes are getting full. My friend just called Pauly Shore awhile ago, although it doesn't seem to work anymore.
AceMilo @ Dec 19th 2005 1:04AM
I called Pauly Shore at 3:35pm est and got his voicemail. His inbox was full :). Anyway, for those interested, yes he says Paaaauuuulllllyyyyy on his voicemail.
Sharon @ Dec 19th 2005 1:04AM
For anyone questioning about the mentioning of sites with her porn tape.. don't forget that for a while she was trying to get places to STOP selling it, and one way to work towards getting rid of something is to find out where it's being sold.
Sherwin @ Dec 19th 2005 1:04AM
It's amazing how many moronic lurkers come out to post their stupid ramblings on things like this.
You can register domains and have them working in less than an HOUR these days.
It is not a hoax. Paris Hilton doesn't get money from those videos. You think she would sell porn for cash?? Yes, that's right.. she has access to her family's 100s of millions of dollars yet she is going to sell porn tapes of herself online and craft a complex hoax for publicity.
And some guy said "will their stock go into the shitter come Tuesday, after the President's Day holiday". Dumbest thing ever. Yes, T-Mobile's stock will tank cause Paris Hilton's sidekick was hacked. Billions in market cap will disappear because, yes, Paris Hilton's phone book was posted online.
Simplest explanation: Her data was stolen in the big T-Mobile hack.
