Could this be the Nintendo Revolution?
Ok, so maybe that "leaked pic" of what is supposed to be a development system for the Nintendo Revolution (or whatever it's going to be called) isn't doing it for you. Anyone want to take a shot at debunking these other, also "leaked" Nintendo Revolution illustrations? Are these yet more fakery? Mock-ups for a potential design that Nintendo may or may not end up using? Does someone out there have too much time on their hands? You know how it goes—stuff like this is never official until it's official. Click to see the rest of illos.

Interesting, but needs quite a bit of work. The back specs are the best part.
Looks a bit like a UFO!
So from the GameCube, we get the GameCilinder?!
I really hope they get their act together so that they don't end up like the Playschool of the games world...
I dunno about that thing, kinda like the logo though.
It looks crap, thankfully it is very likely that this is just a fake or a calculated leak to gage public opinion. Nintendo would be mad to release something as ugly as that.
Ugly, yes -- looks like some kind of kitchen appliance, a waffle maker comes to mind. However, given the aesthetic step back from the gameboy sp to the DS, I wouldn't be surprised, though I hope not.
If this is the one... I think it does look better than the cube... More futuristic like indeed...
I'm gonna get it anyway as a N-fanboy ;) ^^;
Doesn't matter how it's gonna look like =)
Looks like what the Xbox 360 will look like.
Anyone remember the Atari Jaguar? With the "toilet seat lid" CD add-on? This reminds me a bit of the Jaguar... with the lid open it makes me want to sit down for a relaxing 15 minutes1 ;)
whatever the box looks like, i just hope it can live up to a name like 'revolution', that's no small feat
I think the fact that this puts the word "Revolution" on the system debunks itself. It's a code name. This is no different than those mockups we saw for the "Dolphin" a long time ago.
Plus, I somehow doubt Nintendo's going to be using the Dreamcast's controller connectors (and actually the entire controller area is lifted straight off the DC).
Not to mention it's just such a poor quality mockup. I could have whipped this up in Illustrator in about 5 minutes.
bah what an embarrasing mockup, the yare not even trying anymore :p
Wired controller ports? Didn't Nintendo more-or-less make wireless controllers a realistic idea with the Wavebird?
(Awaiting replies telling me how someone else did)
That looks like about an hour of effort in solidworks tops.
I loved the toilet seat joke and I have a Jaguar in the box. Can't seem to give it up due to the one game Alien Vs. Predator. Looks like the XBox 360? UGLY and must be wireless. No wonder Microsoft is going to buy Nintendo. Anyone remember Trip Hawkins, the 3DO guy?
http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/q-a/microsoft-will-buy-out-nintendo-033900.php
It looks like a George Foreman grill. Quite ugly.
as everybody knows, looks aren't everything in a game console. the shape isn't bad but the colors are crap. the interesting part is the back view, is it jus me or is there an ethernet port on the right side of the back?how bout the rest of those holes? it will only need one power cord and one A/V plug in(middle back). looks like a food dhydrator but what does it play like:D?
"as everybody knows, looks aren't everything in a game console."
They are for alot of people. Also Nintendo has to work hard to convince the wider gaming public for their next machine to be a success (and not be their last). Sony have a far better track record of making sexy looking machines and being doing well to boot.

Yeah i agree... and the memory card slot is above the controller port, so the wireless adapter for the controller must be really small, donest make sense... it will prob be like the gamecube, the memory card slot below the controller port and the wireless adapter extending upwards...
No wireless controllers due to the rumored "Revolutionary" gyroscope thingy controllers.
#13, you are right. Nintendo made the very first wireless controllers that actually worked. I had wireless controllers for my NES but the IR stunk. Being forced to point your controller line of sight didnt help.
I think the unit looks beautiful. Colors are great, logo is good, shape is nice. Only thing I'll say is it looks like it could be a bit fragile and break easy.
Atleast it's not huge and bulky like the GameCube, though. That's thing is a monstrosity.
If only apple would buy nintendo.....Anyway i fully agree with the dreamcast looking ports as i have my cast laying right here. Kind of a combo tortia maker and dreamcast. Cool mod idea but not a great game system.
Nintendo needs to take a look at the dreamcast for design ideas. Small square system with a flip top and then add in networking wi-fi and lan, wavebird controlers standard, and many colors ala GBA SP. Mac mini with wireless controlers...

How can you say looks are everything for a lot of people? The Gamecube is by far the sleekest of the current systems. The PS2 is a small rectangle witha larger one on top. It's REALLY ugly. Sony knows how to play the business end but their designs for the PSX and PS2 are terrible.
And the xbox? Oh boy. A GIANT BOX WITH A GREEN JEWEL. ugly as sin, if you ask me.
#11. If you look now, the gamecube uses a modified, slightly smaller version of Dreamcast connectors. They allow a lot of bandwidth passed through at once. It's not too unrealistic to use those again.
as for my opinion, not too bad looking. Colors do suck and looks like a UFO, but COULD be real. i'unno.
The illustrations were floating around last week. They are by a French design team as a concept product, not done by Nintendo.
I don't know why the look of the console matters though. Looks didn't stop people from buying the gawd-aful ugly PS2.
#21, where do I begin?
"Small square system with a flip top". They made this already, its called a gamecube. It measures 6"x6"x4" and comes in multiple colors. Wifi(not good for anything though) and Wireless controllers are available now. Why do they need to look at Sega when they already made what you wanted?
The controller ports look like the Gamecube ports. Now whether the Gamecube stole them from the dreamcast is debatable. Nintendo likes to reuse ports and parts when possible to save dough, such as the video port that hasnt changed since the SuperNES and GBA dpads on the Gamecube controllers.
I meant #22. sorry
#23, the gamecube is the sleekest looking console? LOL. do you even know what sleek means? it does not mean a square brick. just because you don't like the ps2 means you have to bash its sleek design. the xbox is just a giant mess.
27.
sleek -
1. Well-groomed and neatly tailored.
2. Polished or smooth in manner, especially in an unctuous way; slick.
as far as I'm concerned, I don't find the PS2 "smooth", "slick" or "neatly tailored". It's rough and square. THe gamecube, while still not the most attractive system, is smooth, uniform and stylish. It's a small box that is very portable and thus, in my opinion, sleek. And I never said I didn't like the PS2, just the design. I own all three systems and like them each for their own unique titles.
Hell, if you want the definition of sleek, look at the PSP...that baby is GORGEOUS.
This is just a variant of a known theme. "The last one was a cube so this one must be a....cylinder!" Nintendo has NEVER made a home console that looked anything like the one preceeding it.
The artist merely took all the elements of the GC and shifted them around in a very predictable way.
It has been said that the controllers will be wireless. Why are there controller ports then? Why were they a lifted directly from a Dreamcast image? Why are the memory card slots lifted from a GC image?
I miss the days when people SPECULATED. When people would post their ideas of what it MIGHT look like and CLAIM IT AS SUCH. This "I've got leaked pictures from someone on the inside!" nonsense is annoying as hell and has never produced an accurate image of the final product.
Does anyone remember the Nintendo Dolphin mockups and how hilariously Nintendo-64 inspired they were?
Witness the retrospective hilarity!

Sleek does not mean slim. The lines and shapes of the GameCube are the cleanest and sleekest of the bunch. PS2 has swird asymetrical shapes, extra grooves and lines on the system that are only there for "style". Anything extra, just for style and not purpose, gets in the way of being sleek.
GameCube is the sleekest of the three.
Number 30 has it on the head. Besides take a look at the DS and the PSP and you get an idea of future styles and which looks nicer. Besides that is a smaller point, the machine needs more than good looks it needs support; Nintendo are well known for creating good consoles and then killing off their chances of real success by not backing third parties strongly enough. Don't get me wrong i've had many Ninty concoles and loved them but i'm sick of seeing games I want appear on other systems and not the one I own. Next generation console wise I wont be buying Nintendo.
I certainly hope thats not it...I was hoping for standard Wireless Controllers...
I hate wires.
If any of the next gen systems dont have wireless built in, that would just be sad :(
Wireless is the future.
I would somehow expect there is a DVI port in the next generation gaming console...
I am not ruling out any of the next generation consoles yet. I don't have enough information to make an informed decision about them.
#31: If you pass up on Nintendo's Revolution, you'll end up sick of seeing games you want appear on the Revolution.
I really thought I wanted an Xbox until a friend loaned me his for a month. I played it a lot for three days, but then completely forgot about it. All those games I thought I REALLY wanted weren't so appealing once I got my hands on them. I think not owning a particular console makes the grass look greener on the other side of the hill.
The only way around the exclusivity situation is to own all consoles. Personally, I can't afford do that. I'll have to see what each of the three offer and balance my purchase decision. Personally, I'm quite happy playing Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime 2 and Paper Mario. Zelda 2005 might end up being kinda sweet too. ;-)
Dreamcast + Wafflemaker = that goofy design.
I like that design, whats wrong with it being circular its more efficent the discs are circular, its a very practical design plus the top loading is better than the slide out, it might not be but I hope its real its a good design in my opinion, its probably not intended as a fake its probably somethign a design company offered nintendo just like the george foreman ps3
PLEASE GOD, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Looks like a friggin' TOILET!!!!!!!!!
I hope this is not their final design.

The reason i mentioned Dreamcast is because i hated the Game Cube. It was way to tall for a system espesialy with the Game Boy player attached. Nothing built for home entertainment should be taller that the average VCR or DVD player because it does not fit into a system. The dreamcast is much shorter and sleek than the cube.
Wi-Fi built in would be for online gaming and downloads ala X-Box.
I want wireless controls standard not with some adapter i have to buy at a later time. They also MUST change the controler layout to a more standard style because holding a GC controler was very hard on the hands.
I fully agree that they should have DVI standard or atleast the RGB component video.
All this talk about the look of game machines leads me to believe that you guys are having sex with them. Stop it! It's not right.
I don't care if the controllers aren't wireless, as long as the cables aren't as short as the GC's controllers.
#34 I used your logic when I bought my GC (I skipped the 64 because the PSOne just had a better range of games) and have regretted it ever since. Far too many good games never made it to the GC, a couple of big ones being GTA, Metal Gear Solid and Colin McRae. Nintendos in house games are nowhere near as good as they used to be imo so this coming generation I will not being buying the Revolution unless Ive already got a PS3/xBox 2 and they heavily discount it.
There is one important factor to consider here. If Nintendo continue to use the 8mm disc's (and why would'nt they, there pirate proof). Judging by those diagrams, that would make that console extremly small. And with processors rumoured to be in the excess of 2ghz, there is nowhere near enough room for a cooling system powerfull enough to prevent crashing.
Nice mock up though.
p.s. former ncl president hiroshi Y' stated that everything about revolution will be different from anything previously released, including the casing of the console it's self.
not bad. I dont like the front panel sticking out of the unit like that though.
Uhm... number 21, the Gamecube is a huge, bulky monstrosity? Do you have it mixed up with the X-Box or something? Last I checked, the Gamecube was far from huge by any standards. At all. (Including their games, they had some huge successes, like Star Fox: Adventures and Resident Evil 0-4...) but for the most part, really were lacking. I've got all three systems, and I like the Gamecube's gameplay the best, the X-Box's graphics the best, and the PS2's third party support the best. None is better than the other, just different.
Um, #15.... youre full of crap. Nintendo is not going to be bought out anytime soon at all. The company itself has been around since the 1800s and has been making consoles much longer than microsoft and sony. It knows what its doing. All business aside, I seriously doubt that Nintendo would even accept the offer to buy them out.
You know what I like best? I'm still reading comments about how "kiddy" it looks. I swear, if Nintendo came out with the PSP design, and Sony came out with the DS design, you all would be saying that the "Nintendo PSP" is downright kiddy and looks to be made of play-doh, and that the "Sony DS" is much more sleek and sexy.
You want a kiddy system?
http://www.vtechkids.com/?qs=vsmile&flash=true
Until Nintendo starts pushing systems like that, why don't you Sony fanboys just shut up and accept the fact that Nintendo is about as kiddy as Logitech, eMachines, Casio, or any other electronics company that doesn't make their products look "glossy and sleek".
Ok so the mock-up is fake..But, way back when (pre-internet). We had to get all our gaming info from magazines. We would be getting E3 news about the end of june.....THE END OF JUNE!! But now we have lightning fast braodband, and we want our news like yesterday, and there of plenty of talented people out there more than ready to gives us what we want. Gamers are like mushrooms....were kept in the dark and fed bullshit..........
i really want to know if the nintendo Revolution is real please email me back at jg_G_unit13@hotmail.com...im a big mario fan
if this mockup turns out to be real, i hope nintendo continues in this vein of 'consoles shaped like three-dimensional solids' and makes their next system cone-shaped.
