Lenovo P930 runs Series 60 with pen input and GPS
Lenovo announced on Wednesday an enticing smartphone in the P930. The clamshell design sports pen (which is rare in a flipphone), a 1.3 megapixel digital camera with built-in flash, self-timer, continuous shooting, night shot, digital zoom, and video capture. The P930 also supports Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF file formats, though tightening up a preso on your phone can't be easy (even with a stylus). GPS navigation and streaming TV access are also included, as well as Bluetooth, miniUSB, Infrared, and the IGRS standard for automatic device discovery and connection. The bad news: we're pretty sure this one is for China-only.

Why doesn't anyone in the US want to do a stylus with a decently-small smartphone? It seems like such a non-brainer to me. I would've jumped on the samsung i550 if they'd bothered to release it. I hate doing text entry on a numeric keypad.

I am unconvinced that pen input is a good idea for cell phones. I tend to prefer using my phone one handed, a pen input would require two hands. For anything phone related that requires input I find T9, or similar apps, fully capable.
If the pen input were used solely as a secondary input method, that would be okay. But, it had better be dead simple to use as just a phone if it's ever to be brought to the U.S..

Well, a stylus-based smartphone may not make sense here, but remember its intended market: China. I don't know if you know what Chinese input involves, or if you've tried it, but I have. Pinyin is impossibly slow with a full-size keyboard, having only the cellphone buttons would make it all the worse. CangJie requires a full keyboard as well. There are intelligent T9 systems available, but a stylus would just be better for the purpose.
Hope this phone's GSM, I want to bring one back to the States.
