triPod speakers
Yeah, it's a very clever pun, but there are obviously a few design flaws with the triPod, a set of portable iPod speakers that runs off of a single AAA battery. Having to prop your iPod upside down is one of them, but the other thing that's bugging us is the fact that there are three speakers and yet the triPod is supposed to offer stereo sound. Obviously the left and right are already spoken for, so either you've got to dupe one of the channels (which could make things sound weird) or one of the speakers is pumping out mono (which sort of makes it irrelevant). Or it's some sort of very tiny subwoofer.

Nope, you have the whole thing upside down, it will be featured as the torch in the next olympics.
Plays it's own theme too.
That is Sofa King We Todd It.
The strange thing is that iPods do have audio output on the bottom. Why couldn't they just design the connection for that??
See post #2 for answer.
DigitalEl, you are Sofa King We Todd Ed...
Wow, look at all the kids...
Anyhow, seems like the third leg is a good place for the battery compartment.
:>_<:
Honestly. Who comes up with this crap? It seems like everyone and their mom is producing iPod accessories. Hell, this morning I made a cigarette lighter adapter for 4g iPods.
Woha, whats that, im really terrified...... well why dont they make the connections on the top or make flexi-cable for that... ihave a soloution.. put it upside down on bed, keep the legs up and the ipod will enjoy riding on top ;)
I think it's a cool concept ... the reason they didn't make it specifically with an iPod dock connector is easy - it limit ONLY to an iPod.
I think the 3rd leg is for a bass response - don't know if it could be called a full fledged subwoofer though.
Also, to rebuff another comment - what's wrong with accessories for the iPod coming out like crazy - I like it! I like it so much I'm working with a company now to produce one myself - except it is like NOTHING ever seen on the market and will actually sell iPods, rather than the opposite - the iPods selling accessories. My add on should give new use to the iPod that no one seems to have though of
It looks like it makes the iPod support itself by it's headphone jack. That's a bad idea. Unless you like having to solder your headphone jack back into place. I'm not a really big fan of the iPod, if only because of Apple's dirty tricks, but I'm not that big of a hater.
Oh, so close!
Why not put the iPod right side up, then have just two speakers as the other two legs of the triPod? They could even be on swivel connectors if you wanted to rotate them back to face (roughly) the same way as the iPod screen.
Mark,
good point about the headphone jack - it's definitely not built to take stress like that, but what "dirty" tricks do you speak of??
If only they could've oriented the iPod right-side up, instead of upside down, this accessory would be really stupid, instead of incredibly stupid.
Or you can turn the whole thing upside down and it'll be a satellipod.
i like how 5 people say the exact same thing..
variety is the spice of life, except when it comes to comments about ridiculous iPod accessories
I agree with 16. This acessorie would be soo much better if it were right side up!11!!! ROFL!!!
Who cares, it looks teh cool.
Anyone remember the BoneFone? The unit wraps around your neck like a scarf, the speakers are located below your ears, and you could really feel the music through your "bones". And your ears are free from plugs or headphones. Perfect for biking or skiing. I could imagine an ipod accessory like this.
i'm surprised that no one's mentioned that it should be right side up.

You people are blind: why hasn't anyone noticed that it's upside down?
What's upside down?
I have a tripod. Not only is a great design for the iPod shuffle but the whole upside down thing isn't all that important with the shuffle. Certainly anybody who can figure out the windows GUI can overcome an inverted iPOD interface. Also the much lighter shuffle won't be stressed by standing on its headphone jack, after all it hangs from its USB plug all the time. The only limitation I've noticed is there isn't much base. But it's hard to make small sub-woofers. Finally the third leg has a battery and an LED (to tell you it is on) - no speaker. I suppose, if they do make a tiny sub-woofer they could put it there, but the physics required would probably be better applied elsewhere.
Thank goodness someone is talking some sense! I stumbled on this site while trying to find a supplier I might have heard of to buy some tripod speakers. I think its cool, and since I'm a bit of a simpleton where technology is concerned my shuffle does exactly what I need. I think even I might be capable of working it upside down!
I got this as a gift, its actaully pretty cool. While nowhere near your hifi stereo system at home, its portable and stable. I've got a Creative Zen Micro, and upside down is fine. You're not going to be shaking it everywhere, you know. I dunno what the product specs say cause i threw away the box, but i think that there are really only 2 speakers, couldn't seem to hear any sound coming out of the third leg... there's a power light and the battery. I think its just that all 3 legs are the same, and they only put speakers into two of them. This would save on manufacturing costs... At any rate, I like it. Your butt is we todd did.
