Samsung's 82-inch LCD TV
Samsung is showing off the world's largest LCD TV, an 82-inch behemoth that currently ranks as the world's largest
(and totally blows away the previous title holder, a 65-inch
LCD TV from Sharp), at least until LG or whoever decides to spend a few hundred million in R&D to top them with
an 85-inch or 100-inch LCD TV. Won't go into production for another 18 months, which is probably for the best
since you're going to probably need at least a year and half of scrimping and saving to even have a shot at
affording this bad boy.
[Thanks, alf]

Can't they think of anything better to show off then, ah, giant salad?
BJB @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
Yeah like the girl on the right of the screen in a... bikini? String bikini!
Felix @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
Any idea what the resolution on that thing is?

4 x 7.5 cucumber slices
Horst @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
I think the screen is big enough for both of them in bikinis ;-)

Notice that the sign actually says 'World's Largest 82" TFT-LCD Panel' - take the same panel and put it in a larger bezel and you'd have a larger 82" wouldn't you? ;>

#4's answer is funnier than mine will be, but considering their 46" LCD model is 1920x1080 and 1080p-capable, it would kind of shock me if the 82" flagship is any lower-spec'd than that.

Resolution 1,920 x RGB x 1,080 (Full HD)
Pixels 6.22 million (number of RGB sub-pixels)
Contrast Ratio 1,200:1
It is actually cut from a larger 97" panel which will probably be shown when someone tops this model.

I like how they're calling it the World's Largest 82" TFT-LCD. Isn't that implied if it's the only 82" TFT-LCD? Also, I don't want the largest, I want the thinnest ;)
Andy @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
Ugh. The picture is probably absolutely wretched... have you guys ever seen what a larger flat panel LCD looks like? *shudder*
Matt Berg @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
You probably have to be like 20ft away to view it right?
Jeff @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM

Yeah, because native 1080p on a big-ass screen with a 1200:1 contrast ratio just looks sooooooo bad.
chaichat @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
the girl on the right is hoooooot

Obviously you've never seen a 40+ inch LCD panel. They look terrible (blocky, poor refreshes, etc). I'm not making this up... go check one out sometime for yourself.
skmetal7 @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
or u could just buy a projector.
Sam @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
Why is this in portable audio? That thing doesn't QUITE look portable to me.
Scott @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
I've seen this panel in action at a recent show in Boston... It is absolutely AMAZING! It stood side by side with the 102" Plasma Screen and the picture on this was significantly better than the plasma.
jonjon1312 @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
how much is that badboy
