Virgin Electronics is dead
Yep, Virgin Electronics is dead. We've just gotten confirmation from their PR rep that the company failed to receive additional funding from parent Virgin Group and that they're quietly discontinuing all of their product lines (mainly MP3 players and portable speakers). They definitely did not get all sentimental about ending things—it's only been about five months since they first introduced their 5GB MP3 Player, so we're guessing sales must have been way, way worse than they'd expected. Anyway, if you did happen to buy one of their products, the rep made it clear that they will continue honor all warranties.

Virgin just dont get it do they.. Stick to shops and planes Richard !

Long Live Virgin Electronics
I just tried fuckedcompany.com and got glop with both IE and FireFox. Anyone else have better luck?
I work at a major electronics store, and we had carried these things for about a month or 2 before Christmas. We even put them right out in the center of the computer department on display.
During the Christmas season iPod Mini was the hot thing. We were sold out for weeks before christmas, and every new shipment would blow out in hours.
We also got a heafty shipment of the Creative Zen Micro. Very appealing to the people who couldn't secure a mini, and available. Fast seller, but Creative kept us stocked for a while.
About 1 week before christmas, we were out of all minis and micros, and regular iPods were gone as well. Everything blown out pretty much.
How many of the virgin players did we sell?
One.
I will admit the Virgin BoomTubes did sell very well as an iPod companion. Not a bad little unit either.
I admit, I bought one a few years ago when they first came out. Good for about a year, than SP2 came out (or something) and I had a lot of trouble trying to load mp3s on the player from a Win XP machine.
Ditched it last year now that there are a lot more better players on the market.
I wasn't sure what the "boomtube" was so I did a GIS for "virgin boom tube". You fill in the blanks... clears cache, history, cookies.
Virgin Electronics customer support is not currently allowed to say whether the company has gone out of business or not. However, it has stopped selling products and Rachel claimed the site would be updated if and when sales begin again.
In the meantime, all product info is still available, and the Boomtube is currently in stock from Outpost.com (unless the page is officially out of date).
