Despite the snub, Kutaragi sticking with Sony

Ken Kutaragi

It was big, big news the other day when Sony decided to appoint someone who wasn't Japanese as chairman and CEO of the company, but the story behind the story was that up until Sunday pretty much everyone thought that it was going to be Sony Computer Entertainment prez (and father of the PlayStation) Ken Kutaragi who succeeded Idei-san, not Sir Howard Stringer. To add insult to injury, not only did Kutaragi not score the job he thought he was getting, he also lost his seat on Sony's board of directors and his title of executive deputy president. There's still a chance that he'll ascend to the top spot after Stringer finishes his stint, but in the meantime his snubbing is being spun as "Kutaragi will get to focus on the PS3, which is what's most important." Seems unlikely that he'd ever leave Sony (despite all this), but we could totally see Microsoft offering Kutaragi many millions of dollars to defect.
