Lenovo gets clearance to buy IBM's PC business
Not that there seemed like there was too much of a chance of the deal being blocked in the first place, but the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States has given the all clear for Lenovo to acquire IBM's PC division. The CFIUS has the authority to stop foreigners from buying US firms if they believe there is a chance that national security might be compromised, and in this case there were some Congressional types who were concerned about Lenovo, a company that's part-owned by the Chinese government, somehow gaining access to one of IBM's labs in order to steal sensitive technologies for military purposes.

I'm still bummed about this, being a ThinkPad fan... I really hope Lenovo doesn't ruin them...
I think it is good that IBM is selling off it's pc business because now they can focus on making faster chips for my mac. Now all of theri recources can go into the Power processors.
I switched from DELL to IBM last year. If Lenovo changes the way the ThinkPads are made (going cheaper like DELL), what laptop manufacturers are left?
Sony? HP? AlienWare?
Can't do Apple until MS releases SQL Enterprise Manager for it.
I believe Lenovo currently manufactures IBM's notebook line, and maybe their desktop line, so nothing should change.
IBM Thinkpads are about the worst laptops I've ever used. Sucks for Lenovo.
