World's lightest scanner
If the Guinness Book of Records certified it, it must be true. Canadian-based Planon Systems Solutions today at CeBIT showed off the "world's lightest scanner," the wireless Docupen R700, weighing in at under 60 grams (about the weight of, well, a pen). The flyweight device can scan an entire standard A4 page in one go in about four seconds at a resolution of either 100 or 200dpi. The ScanSoft PaperPort bundled software includes OCR functionality to convert scanned text into an editable format. It connects to a PC to charge, and will set you back about $200, making this another pen you really can't afford to lose.

I wouldn't touch anything that includes a scansoft product. Most of their software stinks and it's not Macintosh compatible. This company needs to get some real software developers and make it both Mac/Win compatible. Heck, it's TWAIN driven, it should be easy.
cool thing to show around with, but that $200 will keep me far away from touching it
For reference, 60grams is what Royal Mail (UK version of USPS) classes as the weight of a "normal letter" and the smallest denomination of postage you can buy.
I wonder if this means mail-order companies will just throw a normal stamp on one to deliver it. I see a WHOLE RANGE of eBay postage scams coming right at you!
Not really sure about it being the world's lightest scanner despite the Guinness Book of World Records certification. AFAIK, Guinness will only certify what's been submitted to them in a particular category, ie. if you're the first in a category and no one else submitted their's for contention, your product is the lightest/smallest/whatever you deem it to be.
Not Mac compatible? Sounds like their on the right track...
Hahaha... That was a joke... :)
Dammit... I meant "they're"...
Please don't make fun of me...

This may very well be the lightest scanner in the world, unfortunately it is completely CRAP! I've had one for the past 6 months, and its absolutely useless for scanning any documents. You have to monitor your hand speed VERY carefully when scanning, and keep it completely straight, which if you ask your doctor is impossible. There is always some curve or distortion in the image. I guess they had to sacrifice a few things like basic functioning to get it in 'The Book'. A bit like Lolo Ferrari, but thats another story...
I have one, it works great. You do have to practice a bit to get the right speed for scanning, but this thing is awesome. You can scan with being connected to a computer and then later on plug it in and download the scans. Perfect for court docs.
We tried selling these at the computer store I work for, they are complete junk!!!
It is impossible for you to move your hand at the correct speed and the little wheels on the bottom always get jammed up. Also you cannot use it in a book the inner edge always gets cut off.
I would not recommend this to anyone, Say far away!!!
I don't care if it works, it's sexy. How long before you see it in a Bond movie or on Alias? It's chrome, got great lines, glows when you scan, and you get to plug it in to a computer or another gadget with USB. Product placement city, folks.
The only people who post positive feedback on this product must be employed by the manufacturers to search the internet for such review forums.
It is so poor that in my opinion they have left themselves open to legal action based on the Trades Description Act. I wish they had stuck some ink in it so it could at least be used as a pen, because as it stands it's not much use as anything else.
I'm a financial adviser and this could have been a valuable solution to my on road document scanning.....but unlike the docupen's elaborate website tutorial would have us believe, it is a complete waste of money and time. BUYER BEWARE
