Motorola @ CTIA - CDMA RAZR V3 has a 1-megapixel cameraphone
We scored some shots of the new CDMA RAZR V3, and guess what, they upgraded that anemic VGA camera to a slightly more hefty 1-megapixel! Obviously the button configuration is a little different, too, but we think it's for the better.

Mh... This is weird... Does it have a Memory-Card Slot?
Normally the USB would be on the left, now it's on the right (including this thing that keeps it closed while not in use) and on the right there is a slot for something... large. Can't see what it is.
The camera was flat on the original model, now it's a bit more accentuated. Those three "holes" on the back are also new, maybe LEDs or for some kind of Docking Station....
Charles Hoard @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
This is just the CDMA version of the Cingular phone, correct? Fer crying out loud, why is it taking them until !q 2006 to get it released?
Fire the production engineer, this guy got some bad juice. It can't be that hard!
rc51 @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Figgers, that they come with a better camera, three months after I bought it from Cingular :(
Drew @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Where is the mini usb connector?
Is that a headphone jack on under that tab?
The three dots on the back look like external power connection ... like on the bottom of the LG VX6000.
kessler @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
I think this will be Verizon's CDMAs. I wish Sprint would get them as I too hate the bricks Sprint has for phones.
jason @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Is it a EVDO compatiale phone?
Eso @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Have they fixed the god-awful "ka-chink" noise the GSM RAZR makes when opening and closing? Couldn't possibly make it sound any junkier if they tried.
matt r. @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Bluetooth bluetooth bluetooth! Will it have it? Otherwise this is a just a nice looking paper weight.
Blacky @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
#5: The Headphone-Slot seems to be on the right side (used to be on the left). Power, USB and Headphone use the same slot.
#9: Uh.... The V3 always had bluetooth.
Paul @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
#8 Ka-chink? Psycho! haha jk jk, I've had my razr for months and never did it make any irregular noises while flipping open and close.
Raul @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
#3: it takes a long time because a CDMA chipset requires many more components than a GSM chipset. Also, they use to make their own GSM chipsets when Freescale was a part of them and had much more control on the miniturization. They buy most of their CDMA chipsets from Qualcomm.
Jen @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Any timeline on when I can find this at my local verizon store? I have a samsung that I can't wait to get rid of!
gpie @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
what about tmobile users?!!? will we be able to get one? i just switched from Sprint to Tmobile cause Sprint's phones are so horrible. just my luck that sprint starts unleashing the awesomeness. :(
rdg @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Does this phone have R-UIM support?
mike @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
So will this work with sprint?? I hate the current sprint phones big time!
Tim Bush @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Excuse me, # 10...I think #9 was saying they hope the CDMA model has Bluetooth. See, CDMA model phone owners have very few BT options. I happen to have a T608 by Sony Ericsson, the first CDMA phone with BT. Ever since SE got out of the CDMA biz, very few high quality BT phones have arrived in the CDMA world. The GSM crowd has BT phones left and right. The Moto V710 is a joke, thanks Verizon. The LG-325 sold by Sprint is equally laughable. If the CDMA RAZR is sold with BT features they way they are intended, it will be a BIG seller. IMHO
Psycho Joe @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
I'm tired of good phones with good features taking so long to come to Sprint or Verizon. Don't they realize that the #2 and #3 cellular companies are CDMA? They could rule USA if they had decent CDMA phones with BT. It drives me crazy cuz I want a RAZR oh so bad!
Brad @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
I'm a novice, but very interested in the CDMA Motorola RAZR V3 with the megapixel camera. Can CDMA phones be 'unlocked' like GSM phones? (I'm in Hawaii and using AT&T Wireless).
MattB @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
According to an article I just read, this RAZR might be Sprint only. It seems that Verizon has a requirement for external/extentible antenna as well as a requirement for GPS/E911 tracking that no version of the RAZR has. Read this link:

rob @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Question from a total newbie: Can the current Razr models available (in the US) be unlocked to work with Sprint??
Thanks!
greg @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
i just got off the phone with verizon. sad news :(. i asked them that if the new cdma razr will be available in the US. the lady told me that they have a strict policy that every phone that they sell HAS to have an antenna so that the service could be available everywhere. i told her that should be up to the buyer and not the provider. anyways, we got into a little debate, and obviously there was nothing which she could possibly do so it seemed pointless. so as of now, this is where verizon stands: "if motorola could boost the signal power AND add GPS for 911 tracking, then we would consider bringing it to the market" :(
Scott Pember @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Okay - here is the final chapter in the saga of the CDMA RAZR V3. I have spent months looking into this. The bottom line is that 1.)GSM is easier to cram into a small space than the CDMA technology (thats why there are cooler phones right now for GSM) 2.) you can buy the CDMA version from www.wirelessimports.com (actually you need to preorder it for $1099) they say they'll have the first batch of phones on 6/29/05 and they are spoken for (they are getting 4 or 5 at a crack) So far as I know, they are the only ones that I have found that have them and they are very highly rated for customer service. (my experience with them has been excellent 3) Niether Verizon nor Motorola will admit to be in production with; or be testing; or be looking into a V3 CDMA this year. 4) Looks like the CDMA version will not have Bluetooth.

Zeth @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Note to Greg and other owl-eyed readers. See the Samsung SCH-n330, the UTStarcom/ Audiovox XV6600, all of the Blackberries, and perhaps more. What's wrong with those pictures? None of them have an antenna. Sans antennae. Antenna-less they are. And have been for many months. Hence Verizon's BS argument about the "antenna requirement" has been circumcised. Now what are they gonna lie to us about? No old, cool phones that you nostalgia fans really love- like the Vader or the Qualcomm Q, because they won't let us bug you like "Enemy of the State" with E911? Oh, too late. Nevermind.

In the beginning we thought the bluetooth firmware wasn't compatible with mac iSync 2.1. But finally we got it working. You will have to shut the phone down and make your bluetooth Mac discoverable, and turn the phone up. The Mac will recognize it right away. If not, got bluetooth set up on the phone and make it discoverable. That should do it, i don't remember if I did that on the phone.

Is there confirmation that it will be available for Sprint in Dec '05, or am I gonna finally have to make the jump to Cingular?
Cris @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Just heard that Sprint WILL NOT be getting a the razr from a reputable Sprint source in KC. They are going ot be releasing the Samsung Blade (SCH-V740) instead for December '05.
foneguy @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
According to my Alltel Reg. Mgr, we are shceduled to have the CDMA V3 in Oct/Nov time frame, but no price point yet!

AndrewB @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
I work for Sprint in Florida, and our sprint rep that comes in once or twice a week has heard nothing of the razr coming to Sprint. I'll ask him if he knows anything about the Samsung Blade
Also look forward to some HIGH speed Sprint TV and other things like music videos.. Real Live TV... My Sprint Rep said its supposed to run at around 300 to 400 kilobytes per second... (not to be confused with kilobits)

I asked a Veriozon rep at my local Best Buy and he said that Verizon is "testing" the phone right now and it should be out this November. That would be really cool. I also asked a Veriozon rep in my local mall and they said that it might come out later this year sometime. Does anyone know anything about this?
Mike @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
just talked to a verizon rep yesterday in the store and said that verizons definitely getting it in november sumtime. they are not sure the exact date or price, but they are definitely getting it..i cant wait!! im staring a hole in my calendar..i feel like im waiting for my 2006 mitusbishi eclipse that i had to wait for this summer..but i finally got that too :)
john @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
I heard the CDMA Razr will be at verizon stores the day after Thanksgiving, did not hear pricing yet.
David_NJ @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
My Verizon contract is up today, so I'm free to switch to Cingular for the Razr, though I'd rather stick it out with Verizon (better coverage in this area) until they offer it. However, I just got off the phone with Verizon customer service and was told that the Razr is NOT included in their list of future equipment releases. What's a guy to do? :-(
Mike @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
i went to verizon twice tho and they both told me that the RAZR WILL be at verizon in november..its a definite thing. i called the people at verizon and they said it wasnt either..but they obviously dont no yet..but the verizon reps said it was a definite thing.
john @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
CDMA Razr ...I got a new release date...November 17. Supposedly only available for sale online that date.
tom @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
for those who haven't read reviews on the razr: its a good lookin phone that sux at everything else. perhaps the reception prooblem is due to gsm. however the phone breaks easily just pressin a button the wrong way will mess most of em up. any how if it does come out on cdma it will probably have better reception. this still doesn't cover its flimsy problem. a release date with verizon isn't confirmed yet and sprint is getting the samsung version. oh ya as far as verizon having to have an antena thats BS the blackberry, and samsungs i730 and a630 dont have an external antennas.
tom @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
to correct my last statement the i730 does hav an antenna. the audiovox harrier doesn't
MZT @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Just spoke to Motorola. They claim to have no knowledge of a CDMA version of the razr. I have called Verizon and they give me the same story. But every cell phone store that I go into tells me that the razr for Verizon will be out before the holidays. Can anyone explain this confusion to me?!?
john @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
They are full of BS. They are probably told not to say anything. I heard it was coming out Nov 17th but only for sale online at that time. SO maybe the stores are not told because it will only be available online at first. Justa thought..
David Gurney @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Motorola's head is way up its ass. This company's own Web site is routinely missing phones for which press releases have long been issued. This is the same company that was charging $600 for a StarTac five years ago. So out of touch. The sad part is, if they took the StarTac 7868 shell and put E-911-compliant circuitry in it, they'd sell a shitload.
Verizon is just as bad, lying to callers about such things as DSL without voice (they pretend to never have heard of it, when, again, stories have circulated in the press about it for months). It's not surprising that no one can get a straight answer from these dolts.
Mark @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
For some reason, if you call customer service, they NEVER seem to know about getting new products. The antenna thing is crap. A commerical the other day had a phone that didn't have an antenna. So anyway, don't bother calling and asking them if they're getting the razr. They simply don't know. Hopefully in the future CDMA users won't have to suffer with a bad selection of phones just for the good coverage. The new Verizon commercial is right. It is the network, cause the phone selection sure as hell isn't keeping me there.
Josh @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Alltel is releaseing a CDMA Razor on Novemeber 23rd the day before Thanksgiving. I work in technical support for them and can say its a nice phone, but I would rather get a Treo 650 or this new Mobile PC phone with windows mobile 5.0 on it....
