Sony PlayStation Portable price watch - UPDATED

We're now only a four days away from the launch of the
PlayStation Portable. A few weeks ago we brought back the
PSP price watch, only this time we're keeping tabs on domestic pre-order prices for the
PSP Value Pack rather than
tracking the least painful way to acquire an import console.
>>>Updated on March 20th<<<
-
Best Buy - $249.99 (They aren't taking preorders yet)
-
Costco - $319.99 (PSP Bundle with two games)
-
Computers4Sure - $389.00 (PSP Value Pack, includes three games)
-
Wal-Mart - $359.47 (PSP Starter Bundle with one game and a bunch of accessories)
-
GameStop - $379.96 (This is actually for their "Sony PSP Silver Pack")
-
Amazon - $449.99 (PSP Bundle with five games)
-
Wal-Mart - $498.92 (PSP All-In-One Bundle, includes an Intec Starter Kit, Intec Aluminum safe case, two Intec game cases and five games)
We'll update this list periodically (as often we remember to), and if you have know of any legitimate vendors not
listed here, please let us know so we can include them.
P.S. - Please note that we do not have an affiliate relationship with any of these stores and none of these listings
were paid for in anyway (we're also not endorsing any of them, either). Remember shipping and any applicable taxes are
not included in the prices listed above.
[Thanks to everyone who has sent in links]

Daryl, both of your questions are answered in the article.
EB Games Canada has the PSP value pack on pre-order for $299CDN, however I don't think it comes with the extras (Spider-Man 2, etc).
Walla @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
All of your links are off...just an FYI.

my sister informed me just today that eCost is not good in honoring some of its rebates. i just ordered from them and had great service, but there was no rebate on my item. consider yourself warned.
Bill @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
Also, the Best Buy link brings up a page that says coming soon and doesn't allow you to pre-order.
Someone @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
the spiderman 2 umd is commin out for the first million in the us and canada. but y r some of the sites goin past the retail price, no one will buy it for 334 u.s. when they could buy it for 250 u.s.
jason @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
Has anyone ordered from pc connection can you preorder from there or any of the other sites listed here (except the ones that say you can't)?? thanks
Chris @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
Has anyone heard if US games will work on the japanese units?
Max @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
eCost's website seems to imply that they ARE taking pre-orders. *confused*
F. Villa @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
I pre-ordered mine from pc-connection on 2/24 when the price was $249.99. They better deliver or I'm gonna be mad.
Anthony @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
#11- ign.com had something about that I read on saturday. Can't give you a direct link but the answer is yes. As far as the UMD movies, that has yet to be seen.
Also, as far as pricing for games, bestbuy.com has only 2 games listed at under $40 the rest are under $50, granted they do have only 22 of them listed. This is as opposed to gamestop.com having many of their games listes as under $40. I believe and hope that this is going to be the price point for most of the games, if not lower.
jason @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
has anyone ordred from any of these sites, or preordered the psp online?
Matt Jacobs @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
In regards to eCost, which I recommend, the $20 rebate is only available if you join their Platinum Club, which is $29.95. So, it really makes it $10 more.
The good news is they said they're getting a HUGE shipment and won't have any problem shipping on launch day. I'll probably pre-order one tonight.

lik-sang.com says that they already have reigon free units, but i dont know.
Ryan @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
Good news, Ecost is getting 2,500 and has pre-ordered 573. Bad news, they are shipping the 28th. :(
Matt @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
TRU/AMAZON.com are also now accepting pre-orders... except you gotta buy 5 games. Their price is $449.

I put my pre-order in for the "PSP Value Pack" at EB Games on 2/17/05 and was quoted $249.99... if I don't get it for $249.99 I'm gonna be pissed.
Connor @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
Futureshop has it for 399.99, and if you notice that's the Canadian site [which means it would be ~$325.60 USD]. Probably just used the same picture for both sites, but hey. Someone should exploit this on those "advertised as... we'll beat it" deals.

Boy am I thankful I got mine last December. It was a headache to get it in the first place, but the week after all my friends were telling me how they scoured Tokyo and couldn't find a single PSP unit for sale. Considering the US has a gaming market that is much greater in number than that of Japan, I suspect this will be an even bigger mess. And guess what? When I go down to Akihabara to look around, I still can't find any PSP's in stock. And this is already 3 months after the launch date. But, let's not add to the shortage-paranoia mongering. You'll all get one sooner or later. And hey, there's always eBay.
Good luck to you all. See you online via PSP.
AgntLgn @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
Compusa is also offering the PSP at $249. They are not taking preorders though.
Thanks

Um....you can preorder from bestbuy.....you select the 2 year product warrenty from its window and put in cart, then it puts the psp in automaticly, then you can remove the warrenty (or keep it, i did) and buy your psp today! i did on Feb. 24th.

movies are not
Dylan @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
Just ordered it from Ecost too... Guess its worth it as a backup in case the stores are out of stock etc etc... CSR said there are 602 on pre-order and they have 2000 on the way... which has been cut from 2500!
Jason @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
BestBuy is now taking per-orders for Reward Zone members
Semih @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
Well, trusting your comments; i canceled my order on ebgames and gave a new order on ecost.. Dylan says 602 orders and there is approx 1400 left.. Actually i was quite pissed because ebgames says any orders from march 8th will be shipped on april 1st (aprils fooolls!) and also, it saddened me to see that they are forcing people to buy bundled game-packs. Price was not my primary concern but shipment (When i buy a toy, i want it fast :D) but still, I just paid 200 less on ecost, and if they keep their promise i will anyways (24th or 29th) recieve it much before ebgames would ship it to me..and with the rest of money i can buy games that i want..
Kevin @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
I pre-ordered one on Amazon on 2/24 for $249.99. A week later they cancelled my order and claimed that it was 'not available from any of our sources at this time.' Suddenly, they have a bundle with 5 games for $450. Did this happen to anybody else? Seems very questionable from an ethical standpoint.
Jason @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
I'm getting lucky with my deal. I pre-ordered from a local store here in Alaska. They a re recieveing 100 PSP's and are only requiring that I buy one game actually made by Sony.
endGame @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
Pre-ordered from EBGames the day it was available for pre-order. Lucky me :)

I work for Best Buy and as a company thereceived over 100,000 unites nation wide equaling about 250 per store, more than any other retailer nationwide. They are also opening @ 8.01 AM on release day.
Bill @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
I called eCost last week before preordering my unit from them on Wed. They have 2000 coming in and had 850 preorders. And yes, you have to be a platinum member to get the $20 rebate. The membership costs $30.
They will ship the unit next day for 9.99 and priority overnight for 11.99. Be advised that there is a 6.95 handling charge applied to the order. With the priority shipping and handling, I made out just a bit better than I would if I purchased it locally with taxes.
Not sure if this helpful

Carmi;
> One store's "bundle" is another one's "gouging".
What is that supposed to mean?
Hey honestly, are all your posts supposed to just generate links back to your blog? Please, be a little bit less obvious ...
wahid @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
Kevin - yeah I got screwed over by Amazon on that pre-order too. Sent a complaint to their CS and surprise, surprise no reply back.
Kevin @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
Wahid - I sent a complaint and got a totally generic response that did not address the real issue. Certainly won't be buying anything from them ever again. Would like to take the issue up with the DCA but unfortunately I know it won't go anywhere. I wonder how many people were affected by this.
RedMunky @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
My order on eCost now shows that it is backordered... wondering if they've presold their expected shipment? ... hmmm...
Regula Oblique @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
anybody know if your order on ecost is soposed to show up as backordered?
Semih @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
eCost will start shipping @28th, so they will be shown as "backordered".. This morning I just went to Circuit City and grabbed one, then came back home and canceled eCost order :D I suggest you the same, but of course after calling the nearby stores for availability info..
bob @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
does the toys r us bundle come with the spiderman2 movie like the value pack does?
Mike @ Dec 19th 2005 12:11AM
Ecost.com (I believe same for Pcmall and Macmall) are not sending the PSPs til April 15th. I just called them and now pissed for that reason. I did get an email about 2 weeks prior to release, saying the orders will be sent on 3/28.
