Enfora's Wi-Fi Sled for the Treo 650
It'll swipe all semblance of pocketability from your phone, but Enfora is making good on its promise to do what
palmOne has so far refused to do and is coming out with a version of its Wi-Fi Sled that's compatible with the
Treo 650 (they
announced one for the Treo 600 back in January). Ships
with its own battery, so you won't drain your 650 while you're rocking the WiFi, but the resulting add-on is so huge
that you have to really, really need to have WiFi to justify carrying it around. We'll either wait for palmOne to cave
and release some drivers for their
SD WiFi card or for
Shadowmite to perfect his hackery.

wow. you can barely even tell it's on there! it is truly amazing how far miniturization in electronics has come.
especially when you compare this svelte beauty to one of those hideously large, bulky and cumbersome Windows Mobile handhelds that include "built-in" WiFi or use an inconveniently large (and prohibitively heavy) "SD Card" to provide functionality. not only that ... but on Windows Mobile if it isn't "built-in" they actually force you to choose a WiFi card from *several different manufacturers*! talk about an inconvenience!
once again Palm manages to prove to everyone exactly why they are the leaders in handheld innovation! always immediately adopting even the most bleeding edge technology and integrating it into their products.
because seriously. if Palm wasn't around what do you think the likelihood of even *finding* a PDA with WiFi *and* Bluetooth BOTH built into a device that can also act as a phone and LOOK DAMN SEXY DOING IT? yeah. it'd never happen! not with those non-innovative M$ (ha! get it? a $ instead of an S!!) bastards in charge of PDA innovation.
that said... i think i'm going to go buy one of these right now! it's only just about the most perfect device ever created!
ROFL. Worst part about this is knowing how zombified most of my fellow Treo 650 owners are, they will buy this piece of crap without thinking too much.
I'd rather just carry around an Axim along with the Treo, it's actually less unwieldy, and maybe not much more expensive. PalmOne is the new circa 1997 Apple.
Steady there NSi, if you look at today's postings on front page, you may notice the HP/MS phone getting a bit of a bashing for being rubbish.
I have had everything from the Newton to just now got my first EVER Palm product, my phones prior to this one were a SE P800, Audiovox smt 5600 and Nextel Black Berry, all very good btw but not great. I also have a HP 4700 (also very nice) and have had all PPC's prior to this one. So NO, I am not a "zombified" Treo owner. It was/is imho the best of the lot at present.
Have had the Treo for a few weeks now and I really like it, I love the keyboard, screen, software and since I don't want/need my email downloaded every nano second, the email client works just ot my needs on the Treo. It's not perfect, but it is the best smartphone I have ever owned so far. I am agnostic when it comes to a particular operating system, though I wish I did not have to spend so much on various software for my latest whim..eh I mean useful and necessary phone/pda.
before i read the blurb, i thought i was looking at one of those grey blocks they use on cobblestone roads in europe. then, i was like COOL! a floatation device-- i can have my treo next to me while i am soaking up the sun in my pool!! freakin roxor!
o wait, it;s a wifi sled. i am so with 010111.
I'm one of those in anticipation of a whiz kid to come up with drivers for the wifi SD card (which I still consider the invention of 2004). This bulk could be reduced significantly(ditto). When are they going to make something really portable, with Wifi, bluetooth, SD card slot, 65k colour screen and a decent batt life PDA?
is that big thing on the bottom the holder?
