Yay, the Podcast is back, I am very new to the Pod cast and only about 3 weeks ago grabbed the latest at the time podcast as I had just grabbed a iPod shuffle and wanted to check out this bandwagon, and have started to download the older 'casts. I think it is great the pod cast is back, I have noticed a difference between Phill and Eric. I Like eric's idea of a weekly Headlines update, and I think there is room for eric to host this and Phill do his "Current Affairs" styled podcast like you guys have at the moment.
BTW, for those looking for "Blue and Green Lawnmower" you can grab it here http://www.opsound.org/opsound/pool/theharveygirls.html
it is by a group called "The Harvey Girls"
Thanks for that, Andrew. The ID3 tag was jacked up in iTunes.... I made sure this time to actually OPEN the songs in iTunes to make sure everything was intact before navigating away from the band page in Opsound.
Hey Eric,
No, I said in my post (#34) why I was probably going to stick with Palm. :D
I like some of the features on the PPC, but Palm has been infinitely more stable for me. That and I already have tons of software for Palm, I can't see buying it all again for the PPC...
Oh, I know, I was being a smart-ass.
The biggest problem with changing from one operating system to the other is the cross-grade, which I'm willing to bet DOESN'T exist for PDA software. Microsoft has crossgrades last time I checked, as may Adobe (Buying 1200 software twice is sorta fruity).
I would be curious if you're a 'corporate' user or not... just for the sake of informal surveying on the types of people that are PPC vs. Palm users.
When I had my Dell PPC and when I bought my Tungsten C, I was a graduate student.
Now I'm an overqualified bum (i.e. unemployed). :D
I would classify myself as a "personal" user who has had uses for it in school and work (when my computer died, I wrote a significant portion of Chapter 3 of my thesis on my Palm Pilot while I resurrected my computer from the ashes), as well as WiFi (email) and games...
Right on #49!!!
I'll give Eric a chance, but I think all the critisms are valid. I also really liked it when Phil and Lenn went on their rants (even their politically-charged ones that I hardly ever agreed with). As I mentioned after that particular podcast the nice thing about podcasts is that you don't have to be stuck with it- If I'm still not happy with the Engadget podcasts after 2-3 more 'casts, I'll still listen, but it's not going to the the priority that it used to be for me.
If Phil and Lenn aren't coming back thats OK... but some explanation would be nice. Phil had an awful accident with a mic and a GPS unit. BillG tried to drown Lenn in his money pit to get him with him back in line... Whatever. I think we need closure.
FYI::I emailed Phil in February about the Engadget podcast and he never responded... I understand that emails have a tendency to go unresponded to, but I've convesed with him several times in the past and always got a prompt response. Makes me wonder now.
Okay... so I'm getting a bit excited about this latest podcast. To be fair, I want to give Eric credit for one line in the show where I said to myself, "hell yeah!" Eric asked why/why not pocketpcs and he said something like, "don't give me this, 'Microsoft is evil'." Have to say that gave me some hope for things to come.
Ease up on the new guy! He can't help that he's so slick. The world could use some more slick geeks.
And also, you can't expect it to be the SAME podcast when it is a DIFFERENT host! hello? Stop trying to make him be Phil when he's ERIC!!!!
Nice job Eric. I'm rooting for you.
Anyone here notice that the females in this thread are disproportionately pro-Eric supporting him with disproportionate vigor? What's up with that?
I was quite excited to see the Engadget podcast back but I have to say it just isn't the same. Eric did an OK job, but he just isn't Phil and Phil was (as I now realize) a big part of why I liked Engadget.
The style of the show is different now and just not to my liking. The report from the field on the latest wireless gadgets sounded like an episode of "Queer Eye for the Straight Geek". It sounded more like a report from a fashion show than a technology show (candybars are just so out but I can't get enough of these sliders! What about those clamshells!!!).
Good luck to Eric, but this just isn't for me anymore.
The next thing we'll hear is a commerical tag line. Bring back Phil and Len and the TV B Gone experiments.
+ It's a podcast that likes Macs.
- Too slick, too professional, music playing in the background like morning radio. Content was surface scratching only.
I think Phil made the podcast as it was one of a very few that I like. Maybe Eric is a Adam Curry wanabee.
I'll give it 1 or 2 more podcasts, but bring back Phil. Or was he silently killed for speaking his mind:)...
Hey John #61, you make that sound like it's a _bad_ thing. Heh.
At any rate, thanks for the feedback both positive and critical, everyone. But yeah, I'm not Phil, can't change that. He's on to other stuff... the why's and such isn't my business. I just flip on a microphone and crank stuff out (after I figure out which of the 800 billion technology-related things to talk about in a short period of time). The irony of 'over-produced' is how fast I threw this together. Heh.
I'm not a radio guy, btw, just a dude who grew up in the Bay Area/Silicon Valley. I dig on tech, can be too smart ass for my own good, and bottom line is, there is no conceivable way to please everyone.
If we *could* do that, we'd be freakin' bazillionaires.
Thanks again, and btw, watch for some video clips for the next show.
Oh yeah and much love to the ladies. ;-)
I’ve been a fan of the show from the beginning, no really – the first episode with Len and Phil trashing John C Dvorak (which from a personal perspective I ALWAYS enjoy) was great! I heard the show evolve into that download we all looked forward to every week. Phil did a great job of talking tech without the overdone gibberish that gets old even to those of us in the industry. Personally, I think Eric did a good job. Like all things it will take some getting used to, clearly it’s a more polished show than most of us (original listeners) are used to. I will tell you I miss the theme songs to the all the television shows I grew up with even if the shows weren’t that impressive the beginning of every podcast was enough to put a smile on my face every time. I also hope Eric won’t be bound by making a wired show – take the iTalk with you now and again, even if the clarity isn’t the greatest I would have loved hearing people from SBSW. It’s just my take on how things should go but I will absolutely agree with Eric on one count. . .” bottom line is, there is no conceivable way to please everyone.” You said it brother!
Man, you single-handidly destroyed my enthusiasm for podcasting. The intro was horrible and the whole thing was tacky and over done. Just give me a guy ranting about the issues into a mic with some raw broadcasting like it should be done. I couldn't bear to listen to one minute of this.
no value compared with previous shows
I kind of gave up on Phil. He was just hard to listen to. Eric is much easier on the ears and I plan on adding this podcast back to my feed. Thanks, Eric for picking up the ball.
I love the podcast!
