Samsung's very Long Distance Cordless Phone
That 300 feet range you're getting out of your current cordless phone not cutting it? It's not entirely clear
whether it's actually legal to use here in the US (at least for non-marine purposes), but a company called InterTel is
selling a cordless phone kit that they claim has a maximum range of 130km. That's obviously going to only happen under
perfectly ideal conditions (and you'll have to deal with getting strange looks from people who think you can't afford
to upgrade your cellphone), but supposedly with the right antenna you should be able to get at least 5 to 10 miles out
of the Samsung Long Range Cordless Phone.

That'll go great in my very big house. =P
that with vonage and i'd be able to replace my cell phone, i think... 6.5 miles to work, hmmm, i might have to find the right antenna
Be careful... some of these were using specific frequencies that are utilitized in the amateur radio sections... and from what limited info I've read... can interfere with public service (police, fire, etc.) frequencies.
The one I specifically heard of was made in China and wasn't meant for use here in the states.
The good news, it works but there is no magic new technology. This device is not legal in the US under FCC rules, it operates in the 450/230 Mhz bands, the later being for aircraft comms.

wish i could find one that did 850mhz (thats US gsm we dont have that here where i live)
I am afraid it will not hit the market, because the design is ... ahem .. borrowed from an Ericsson Mobile launched 1997 as worlds smallest GSM phone at that time. Be sure the lawyers are already on the way ...
Actually, I used to own that phone, a Samsung N105, at least that's what the pic is of.
There's also a case where the fcc fined a chinese delivery place $10k for using one of these that worked in the 2m amatuer radio band (around 145.875mhz)
You won't get anything like this legal until someone comes out with a wireless mesh standard and someone makes a voip version that works over it.. and a mesh network is setup in your area. Anything else will only be possible by using illegal power and/or illegally working in frequencies that require licenses.
