PSP games region-free after all, but UMD movies locked
We've reported before on the fact that some games for the
PlayStation Portable do indeed sport a
region-coding number, but now that the US games are finally
out, we're happy to note that Sony (as promised) did not put a region lock on any of their games. Which means that yes,
you can play any Japanese game on that fresh, mint-condition, scratch-free PSP you just picked up (or if you've had a
PSP for a few months, there's now a few new American titles you can add to your library). Sony did lock up the UMD
movies, so those of you with Japanese PSPs won't get any Spider-Man 2 action.

I have a doubt after all! So...I bought my PSP in Canada and I saw that all games have the REGION 1 symbol printed on the back cover. So...will the portuguese (Region2) games work in my PSP? (PSP1001)
Plz answer mE!!
I live in Japan and have been thinking bout getting a psp for a while now..if the games r region free. I assume from reading about people importing jap machines to the UK that i wont b stuck playing ONLY jap games, UK software seems to be working..right? HOWEVER, i dont c how the movies will work. DVDs here r region 2, as r the european ones, but the machines r different, ntscj rather than ntsc. UK DVDs wont run on a jap player. Im assuming thats the case for the psp movie regions too..
If i was to buy a PSP game in japan, and then play it on my Aus PSP would i be able to change the language of the game?
Thanks for any help.
Only if the actual game contains the option to change the language. Wipeout:Pure for example gives u the choice of Eng or Jap.
Is there any way of unlockin the psp to multi regional or of changing the system to the european reagon?
can u tell me how much a PSP would cost in singapore
The only way i would get UMD films is if in some way UMD took over from DVD and there were UMD players on the market. That way im not just getting a film that can only play on my PSP i can bring it to my friends and watch a film on a tv. be funny if we gathered around my psp. seeing as this is abit far fetched i doubt i will ever get a UMD film.
A region 3 PSP value pack is sold @ S$440(US$258) with 18 mths extended warranty by by Sony Singapore. Suggest the local people to buy the region 3(although Jap PSP is cheaper but only 1 yr warranty in Japan only.) cos after long usage will cause dead pixels on ur screen and the warranty does cover 1 to 1 exchange if there are a certain amount of dead pixel on ur screen.
Jap movie lover should get a region 2 psp & US movie lover should get region 1 cos of the region coding for umd movies. But remember the warranty only covers its own respective country.
HEY!, im planning on getting a psp from china!, yeah the games will work, but i am wondering if any1 has found a way to change the region formats on my psp to australian?
or atleast a hacking program to put onto the psp so that i can bypass it...:S

Is there a way around the UMD movie Region codes yet? I was just checking out www.hmv.co.uk and they have loads of wicked movies that we are not going to get or dont have yet in North America.

Hi i am thinking about buying a Jap PSP online from eBay... is it true that after long usage it would be more likely to get dead pixels? How would i fix this if my 12month warranty would only be available in japan?
I got my PSP in Taiwan, which is region 3 encoded. Could anyone tell me if it would work on UMD movies in New Zealand, which is region 4? Any help would be appreciated.
I have a Japanese PSP Version 2.0 (Region 2). I've just purchased the Tiger Woods game from the US (Region 1). Will this game work on my PSP ?
Thanks

Re: Dave Ingham - #66
If you have a R1 game and an R2 PSP why not just stick it in the drive to find out if it will work, instead of asking. Worse case scenario is that it'll just pop up telling you it's an invalid disc or something.
i have got a jap psp i know it will play the games but if i get jap games can u change the language 2 english? many thanks
