Eric,
This isn't by any means a comment on your likeness to Phil Torrone or any previous podcast produced by Engadget, but today's show was a snore.
I'd normally be against leaving such a comment for a podcaster as I'm all for flying by the seat of your pants, but 14-15 minutes of the PyMusique thing was just way too much.
I visit Engadget because they offer really cool gadget stuff, hacks, and that kind of thing. "Mainstream" tech news like the DVDJon thing are okay now and then, but I'm really against devoting such a large amount of time to it - the issue has already been beaten to death by bloggers.
You mentioned you had an iPod and something that sounded like an "Arcos." What is this latter item?
I still like the show, perhaps not as much stuff that relates to me, but it was good enough for me. Then again, I'm a devotee of the Gadling podcast, too, so I'm familiar with your style.
I really enjoyed the show but I thought you spent a little too long with C.K. Sample "talking iTunes, Pymusique, DRM, and the whining against Apple." It's been covered everywhere. Can't we move along to something cool?

And what the hell is up with the artwork attached to the podcast in iTunes? Maybe I've never noticed it before but what the hell. It's kind of creeping me out.
What, no binary?
No Morse code?

Thought you'd want to know,

What is up with the weird hippy album art? What's wrong with the standard Engadget album art?
This C.K. guy is a GENIUS!
I'm with Clinton... that C.K. guy is such a snore.
It seems like most of the show is spent talking about the show and not gadgets. I know it's only show two but compared to the "last Endaget Podcast" this format is just straight up boaring. Listening to the CK interview I was just yelling at the guy to spit it out. And hey Eric, ever heard of Skype? Use it instead of the crappy phone interview. CK's crappy cell kept going in and out. You're going to have to up the level of listenability of this show big time to get me to keep listinging.

I think most of the people are just slightly afraid of the new podcasts. It's like meeting a new dad, he's never good as the one you grew up with.
I hope that he doesnt get fed up with this...
THE DRM thing was way too much. The new production style is over the top slick. Please stop trying to sound like Adam Curry and spent more time talking about gadgets and people who know about them.
Speaking of guests - the DRM guy was all about black and white. DRM is bad - we should fight it. I'd suggest looking for guests who can articulate the shades of grey this stuff usually exists in. Even the DRM conceeded that without DRM we would not have the itunes store.
I agree with Adam P, that C.K. guy was saying "um" way too much.
Great show! I think I like Eric Rice much better then Phil. Plus, Phil is a gadget theif - Ive read a few posts about his taking ideas of others and not giving credit were credit was due...
Great job Eric!
Sorry, but I'm sick to death of this C.K.Sample guy. TUAW was much better without him.
Radical, Eric. It's always nice to check in and find a new edition of one of your favorite podcasts available. Can't wait to hear it...
Bring Phillip and Len back! No offense to Eric. I miss old Podcast! JamesJ Phillip always credits everyone to point of obsessive read his articles. Your make claims with no proof. Maybe ur real name is Eric?
I give the first podcast a 7 and this one a 7.5.
I liked the discussion about the video cameras that record mpg files not tapes because that is a major issue/pain point for web-based video. The time it takes to encode is totally wasted... would be much easier to just drag and drop files from video cameras to your hard drive.
I liked the CK interview, but I agree with the talking about the last show and blog too much... I'd like to see 100% of the show focused on the issues.
I really don't care if the show is slicker--which it is--I care about getting to the deep, cutting edge issues.
Also, I don't like the Eric talking to himself moments. I like the interviews.
I think the best model for the show is for Eric to take the top three stories of the week and call up the people involved and talk about it.
For example, call up the Joystiq guys and let here every inside detail on the PSP.
Call up Peter Rojas and have him give you all the inside info on the issues around Tivo and the really cool new pair of running shoes.
The bottom line is that we're all interested in the substance of gadgets/technology over the style of the show. Right now the show has great style, but it needs more substance.
I want to LEARN stuff from the podcast... I want to come away with inside information, and I want to get to know the bloggers on Engadget. I think that was the good part about the first version of the show: you got to see behind the curtain of Engadget, which is the best tech resource on the web today.
So, that's my .02
I really hope Peter calls in this week, and I'd love to hear all about the PSP stuff.
I do like Eric's voice and style, and he is really smart. We need to bring the show in synch with the blog... that is the #1 goal.
Thoughts Eric?
So did p.Torrone just signed off completly from Engadget? He jsut seems to drop off from the face of Engadget.
sorry if this seems dull - but where did Phillip Torrone go ?
thanks
drg
Great show...just put more shows out here man!! thx
Far more noise than signal, hope Phil & co continue posting a/v somewhere.
Thought this week's podcast was a bit better than the last one.
Definitely like the fact that the Engadget podcast seems to be coming out on a regular basis again.

This show really annoyed me on one point. This CK guy kept saying that he couldn't authorize his wife's computer with his authorization because his wife would lose hers. Where did he get this misinformation? If he'd just authorize with his password, then his wife could listen to her music from his machine and from hers. Apple allows you to authorize up to 5 computers to play songs from itunes. My husband downloads music to his mac, and I download music to mine. I can listen to his, and he can listen to mine. We both had to authorize each other. In our kitchen, where we have an aging mac, we authorized for both mine & his, and we can listen to both itunes entire playlists there, including all of our iTunes songs.
This kind of misinformation is what annoys me. It not only hurts itunes/apple, but it hurts all of those people who listened & think they can't authorize their machine to listen to more than their own music.
Check your facts before you bring on "experts".
