Convert your Sprint Treo 650 for use on Verizon
Don't come crying to us if these guys permanently screw up your phone (or "disappear" with it), but if you don't mind a little warranty-voiding, someone on eBay is offering to convert your Sprint Treo 650 for use on Verizon's network. They're asking fifty bucks (plus shipping), so if you feel saving some cash and giving it a shot yourself there are people who have been doing this on their own.

There is a grammatical error in your post. It should read "...there are people WHO have been..." Basically, you forgot a word.

Or read The Gadgeteer and do it yourself for free.

I'm on Verizon now, using a Moto v710, and would love to switch to a Treo - prefably a 650.

How SAD it is that Verizion doesn't offer any/many decent phones, and customers have to resort to modifying the phones offered by other providers. My gf has a Verizon phone that doesn't have a single game on it (nor can they be downloaded). Get with it Verizon!

And most likely they are using this tutorial...

WOW HER PHONE DOSNT HAVE ANY GAMES? DAMN! When do YOU play them? When you are supposed to be driving?

verizon is coming out with the treo 650 within the next couple weeks AND it will support their EVDO high speed wireless service. no point in buying a hacked sprint version at now... although it IS ridiculous that verizon takes so long to come out with descent phones.

It is not that "Verizon is slow to come out with it." It it that Treo does a deal with Sprint so sprint will have an eclusive for some period of time.

To all you whiners complaining about Verizon's phone selection:
Try Alltel.
Try Suncom.
Try Virgin Mobile.
Try KiwiPCS.
Compare any one of those to Verizon and tell me which is better.
Besides, Verizon's got EVDO rolled out in 50 cities. Where's Sprint's EVDO? Even Alltel beat Sprint to test market with EVDO, and all of Cingular's HSDPA talk is just that.
Speaking of Cingular, how many Treo 650 service calls have they had to answer since it came out in January? I didn't hear Verizon having those kind of troubles with they released the Treo 600 last year. I'll wait for a company that sorts the bugs out and gets it right, thank you very much.

i hear that Verizon is coming out with the Treo 650 soon with EVDO. Any truth to the rumor? I am stuck between purchasing the vx6600 now or waiting to purchase the Treo 650. Thanks

i have a verizon treo650 that i would like to use on alltel but i can't get alltel to turn it on, any suggestions?
oso133 @ Dec 19th 2005 12:12AM
Hey badhabitwb, where do you have service with Alltel? Plenty of places around here tjat will hook up your Treo... LMK and I can refer you (so I can claim the $25 referral that Alltel pays).
mitch @ Dec 19th 2005 12:12AM
Alltel continues to take the position that they presently will not support the 650's, nor do they have any estimated date when they will. Does anyone have a Treo 650 with Alltel? If so, it is in the US?
George @ Dec 19th 2005 12:12AM
Mitch,
Just talked to Alltell today 10-25-05. They will be offering the Treo in December. I am not sure if they will be offering the 650 or 700, but in any case I will be in line.
